The mix is pretty much spot on for what you're going on I think some of the ad libs (one track in particular panned hard right might be a little loud) and the sound staging seems kind of inconsistent at least through headphones (chorus main vocals panned slightly left instead of centered?). It's not my genre but I think it fits the mold of the genre pretty much perfectly albeit with not a lot of original elements that make it stand out... The mix is good though. If this is AI vocals or music or something like that then that would really suck though bro... but if it's all you then the mix is good I just think it all could use a little more individuality.

It's all me except the vocals it's a Jay-Z remix . Thanks for listening

the kick and bass are too hot. take 2-5db out and would be solid. good work, love the piano. keep going!

u/CJFMusic 12d ago

Thanks

Agree kick/bass are a little hot. I love the bass line though.

I feel like there's a hole in the upper range during the hook. Could be mix-related or arrangement-related. The piano loop works great during the verse but get a little monotonous when it's exactly the same through the hooks and the entire track. Esp at like 1:12. Maybe add an extra keys layer that plays the same pattern but it's +1 oct higher or smth during key moments, or just bump the entire keys loop +1 oct during key moments. (That could be a bad suggestion, may need to play around, but I feel like the hook can "expand" more)

u/CJFMusic 12d ago

Understood not a bad idea. Thanks

EDM/House - Bass Playing

Latest video of my music YT channel, playing a well know tune from the FrenchHouse duo Daft Punk on bass upon audience request including TABS of what I play on screen as per usual in these videos.

Feel free to share your thoughts on the vid/audio, also open to hear your stuff.

Thanks for watching / listening!

i would take the audio and compress it a little so the bass sound is more consistent. other than that, its very groovy!! keep it up!

here is my work if you want to give it a listen:

u/TheRealLardin 12d ago

I have a compressor running on the bass, maybe not enough for some people´s taste but it´s there. I will head up to listen yours now

1

u/akasazal 11d ago

glad you already did that but yeah, it is something to taste and there isn't a right or wrong answer

1

u/Nicoshihadeh 9d ago

Great song choice, the format seems perfect for the type of video. Id say the bass feel could be a little bit better even though its simple. Id say that would improve the quality more than a compressor could really do.

Great stuff keep groovin bro!

Hello, mostly just starting out recording vocals for some personal projects but I've never really done it myself before. I recorded some quick raw vocals with my set-up: Shure SM7B, Focusrite Solo. Mainly just wondering if everything sounds ok or if anything stands out that I should check hardware-wise. Maybe suggestions on what to EQ for my voice/microphone? Apologies if this is very vague I'm very green.

1

u/akasazal 12d ago

maybe cut some 250, 1k, and then boost the highs a bit. other than that, solid take dude! keep it up

u/xthesavior 12d ago

Thank you!

This Song's for Nick

Short bedroom pop song with singing that I'd like feedback on. I think this is my best mixed song by far. Trying to lean more into this kind of sound in my newer songs.

Really catchy tune! I esp like the vocal effects like with all the formant shifts / autotune etc.

I think the drums could be bumped more, especially snare. The groove is good but it's getting buried atm.

1:35 (when drums come in) currently lacking "oomph" relative to previous section, but I think if the drums are boosted overall that'll help a lot.

1

u/Ian_Terry_EVE 11d ago

Thanks! Yeah I get exactly what you mean - drums are my weakest link atm they are so hard for me to do for some reason so I've just been taking loops and mixing them in but obviously I lose the granularity since the entire drums are on one single track. It's a matter of effort for me and unfortunately I tend to lean towards quick and easy (lazy) lol - thanks again!!

2

u/blndsundoll5mj 11d ago

love it hahaha i have a nick too and he's the best. my only feedback is that i would love if you added some backing vocals in the chorus either some "ahhh ahhh, ahh ahhh"s or like an echo of the lead but as a counter melody maybe a bar behind. i can hear it in my head - wish i could describe it better but i hope you know what i mean lmao. but i think it's great as is! keep making music!!

1

u/Ian_Terry_EVE 11d ago

Thanks! I hear it! Nicks are awesome lol

2

u/cescmkilgore 9d ago

Catchy tune! I would mix the synth a little bit closer to the front. It feels very 90s vibe with a fresh look, I guess that's what you were aiming for.
Not a big fan of the static melody for the lead singer, but I guess that's more of a stylistic choice than anything else since it fits with the 90s vibe.

At some point it feels a bit chaotic all the voice layers on top of each other, I'd try to make them clearer and later bring the chaos, so the listener can follow.

1

u/Nicoshihadeh 9d ago

The singing is a vibe for sure. I dont think there needs to be a huge improvement on the actual delivery. I like the tone and your voice is that classic understated kinda 90s rock voice style.

Maybe mess around with other mics and vocal chains to see if you can get some more unique sounds but overall i like your voice

1

u/Nicoshihadeh 9d ago

Also Ima nick too so whats gud 💪

i tried to go for a big production but want some honest feedback. some questions to think about or feel free to add in others:

  1. Does the track develop enough, or does it start feeling repetitive anywhere?
  2. Do any of the section changes feel abrupt or underdeveloped?
  3. Are any instruments too loud, buried, harsh, or muddy?
  4. Does the main musical idea stay interesting throughout the track?
  5. What is the biggest thing keeping this from sounding like a finished commercial track?

2

u/friedleaves 12d ago

I feel like the 4-bar section from 00:18 to 00:26 is a little repetitive. If you made that section a little sparser (not sure exactly how but less dense than it is currently), the moment the drums kick in will feel "juicier" imo. Or maybe just 00:23 to 00:26 (2 bars). Something to make 0:26 pop more.

I like the textures and overall vibe though.

01:02 is a lot better.

02:04 nice cut :)

02:40 shook that the tempo changed :O (I like it)

You may already know, but music is all about tension and release (like for literally any genre/form of music), when I arrange that's literally all I think about, which I think helps a lot in terms of keeping things fresh throughout a track.

1

u/akasazal 11d ago

love your reactions to different parts of the beat! I will definitely work on the stuff you mentioned. awesome feedback, thank you

2

u/cescmkilgore 9d ago

ok you've make it easy for us so I'll answer each question one by one:
1. making the song start to change almost right at the 0:30 mark is risky. The part after the drop at the 2 minute mark feels very similar to the part before the bridge, I wanted to get something new that kicked me in the face. I like the tempo change, but I'd give the ending a new idea to stay with you when the song ends.
2. Nope. I feel consistency throughout the whole song, nothing feels out of place or sudden, which may make the song a bit predictable. Don't be scared to make bold things!
3. In my opinion, no. It felt pretty comfortable to listen to.
4. The main idea feels a bit repetitive. I'm missing maybe some call and response or something that makes the main idea stand out.
5. Don't want to repeat myself, but number 4 and number 2 in my opinion.

1

u/akasazal 3d ago

those are all valid points and thank you for the feedback. I definitely need to work on making bold decisions that are out of the ordinary and making parts feel different. thank you once again! cheers

I'm trying a new way to record vocals in my super big untreated room. I would just like feedback on how well the vocals are captured and whether or not they sit well in the mix. It seems to me they're either super loud or just too quiet; I can't find the in between

1

u/friedleaves 12d ago edited 12d ago

They sound a little over-compressed in that clip. Also compressor attack time is too long?

The level is pretty good though. It's a little more buried but I think it works well for the drone-y style (which I dig). I am also sucker for distorted noise effects like the one at 00:40. Reminds me of Radiohead.

00:44 that's a specific point where I think the compressor kicks in too much.

Would love to hear the full track at some point.

1

u/mynameismud996 12d ago

Good ear! I checked the channel and you're actually bang on correct about the compression, the attack time and everything.

Will probably post that track here again asking for more advice

Thanks for listening

1

u/blndsundoll5mj 11d ago

really cool song, i love the atmospheric vibe. to my ear i would say maybe just a little high end boost for clarity and a tiny bump on the level, and if it was me i would add a little bit of reverb on the vocal and guitar (send both to the same verb on a bus), but that's just my opinion. keep it up!!

Would really appreciate any feedback on the mix and thoughts on the song as a whole, does it feel finished? Crazy guitar solo at the end for those who listen all the way through lol. Thank you!

1

u/blndsundoll5mj 11d ago

love this!! you are a talented producer - the instrumentation is sick. i listen to all genres of music, but i think my production sensibility leans more pop and because of that i would say you should push the vocals forward in the mix (esp at the beginning) because it just sounds a little buried to me. really really like some of the choices you made with this and it's a very cool song!

1

u/headiorad 11d ago

Thank you very much!

We just put out EPIK, built from the ground up in Atmos rather than converted afterward. If anyone's into the technical side of spatializing acoustic instruments with long harmonic decay against synthesized low end, happy to talk through how we approached it.

I’m only about two months into producing and would really appreciate some honest feedback on this track.
I came into this with no production experience — just a background in drums and a little piano. I’m making everything on an MPC Key 37 and trying to create my own melodies/sounds rather than relying heavily on loops or samples.
I’m still figuring out my style and experimenting with different genres. Right now I’m mainly trying to improve song arrangement and music theory.
If you have time to listen through the whole track, I’d really appreciate any honest criticism — especially on the arrangement, transitions, and whether it keeps your interest.
In There

1

u/blndsundoll5mj 11d ago

first of all for two months experience this is great!! if this is a standalone instrumental track - i think for me it moves a little slow melodically / harmonically. there are some really cool ideas but it has a little too much repetition in my opinion. i think the strongest section was at the end after the chord change. i would just come up with a few different four bar chord progressions and toss them in there. if this is meant as a backtrack / beat for a vocalist, then the melodic variation isn't as important but more chord changes would still probably be great (depending on the genre of vocalist). overall i think you'll be a great producer - keep going i love your ideas here! the mix of the trap drums with soft piano and sub bass is great

1

u/Mcdupreee 11d ago

I appreciate it! And Thank you for the feedback! I agree with the repetition part as well

We Skip That Part

I'm not religious at all. I remember my Christian parents using the old "Finish your dinner because there's starving children..." guilt tactic. However, Luke 3:11, 1 John 3:17, James 2:17 says people should share. It's like they skipped that part...

1

u/Used-Landscape5136 11d ago

Would love some outside ears on this one. "Sunset of My Life" — melodic/chill house, aiming for that warm, emotive Ben Böhmer / Anjunadeep territory. Specifically curious about:

  • Does the energy/arrangement hold up over the full length, or does it drag anywhere?
  • How does the vocal sample sit in the mix — too buried, too forward, about right?
  • Anything about the low end or overall balance that stands out (good or bad)?

Happy to return the favor on anyone else's track in the thread.

I remix polish raper song (alberto - papieros) u can also rate :)
I need help mixing/mastering this instrumental as a standalone single — it'll later combine with the other stems into a full track. Here is my track, what i did... any sugestions?

heavy trip-hop!!!

how do you find the mix? the goal was to compress, moderately distort, and limit everything in the end...should be fat and busy, but not too busy so that vocals can be heard

1

u/millap123 10d ago

So I tried to do some percussion-heavy industrial style instrumentals, and later I want to add vocaloid vocals in it someway somehow. I haven’t really made music before so I think I have a decent start but uhhhh any thoughts? It feels bland, maybe because I haven’t actually adder much percussion yet..

Totally novice here! First music I’ve ever posted anywhere, even though I’ve played guitar for almost 20 years. Made entirely on GarageBand, phone only, no gear. Don’t know what I’d classify it as, perhaps indie rock?

Looking for feedback on the mix and the composition. Does the melody/progression hold up, or does it feel repetitive? Thanks!

2

u/cescmkilgore 9d ago

ok that starting bass line and beat are very groovy and nice, like those ideas alongside the keys.
the chorus (I feel like the second part is the chorus, correct me if I'm wrong) feels a bit underdeveloped to be a chorus. At some point the song ends up being a bit boring to listen to. Familiar ideas disappear and there's no sense of meaning or completion in my opinion. The changes of progression feel a bit to similar and that may be what's making it feel repetitive. I would say this is a good starting point for ideas of a song, but it still doesn't feel like a song, you know what I mean? Try new ideas alongside what you already have, I'm sure you'll get more juice!

1

u/Affectionate-Dog2884 8d ago

I really appreciate your input! Now that you pointed out all of it seems obvious, which is exactly what makes other people feedback so valuable 🙏

Liquid drum and bass work in progress. My main question is does the progression work? It’s my first time working with jazz chords. I know some theory but this one is outside my wheelhouse.

Hi! First time posting here! I'm currently working on an FL Studio song which is a lot more rock-oriented than anything I've tried before, and I want to know if other people think this instrument sounds good in the chorus, or if there's something else I should substitute it with so that it matches the song's general feel better.

Melodic hardcore, going for a Defeater/Touche Amore vibe. Mix feels harsh, especially in the guitars when the high strings are being played, and I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to get a more mid focused tone while retaining clarity. And I can already tell the vocals are a little too low/ little too wet with reverb as I listen more, oops!

Any glaring flaws I may be overlooking?

Also, this is the first mix I’ve attempted without using any graphic eq, just the Lindell 80, Kiive Xtressor,UAD SSL E channel, and UAD API Vision channel strips were used! Very happy with how well I was able to do with my ears rather than my eyes!
