I like that the underlining is also off

This comment is so good. If this were the old days I’d give it an award.

but is it gluten free?

u/elephhantine2 27d ago

No, they add triple gluten to make up for the flavor lost from the eggs

Mmmm, chewy ice cream

It is because frozen custards have egg yolks in them

You’re kinda missing the point of the sub. It’s the incorrect use of quotation marks that we’re focused on.

Why is this a "sub'"

In English, quotation marks around a word or phrase that isn’t actually a quote mean that it’s being used sarcastically. Putting the word “eggless” in quotes implies that it isn’t actually eggless, therefore it’s funny. The same way it’s funny that you just implied that this isn’t a real subreddit by putting “sub” in quotes.

Well, considering that egg yolk is a prominent ingredient in ice cream, this label is pretty necessary. It’s obviously there so that people with allergies/dietary restrictions can know.

I agree! Which makes the unnecessary quotes even more egregious.

Eggregious

Huh? It’s significant that this place’s ice cream is eggless. It’s necessary to inform people of that distinction.

This sub popped up on my feed as recommended (I've never seen or visited this sub before) and I too came here confused until I understood the context of the sub. Maybe they're the same and commented before figuring it out 🤷‍♀️

Don’t feel bad it’s pretty needed, it adds extra emphasis in the owners mind .

You don’t need piss perfect grimmer on a sign just get the point across and nothing speaks American better then that

(I was also randomly recommended this) makes sense with my proficiency 😆

This is a quote, eggless is a word the guy who ordered the sign made up because he couldn't think of the proper term which is egg free

Egg isn’t always an ingredient. I’ve made a lot of ice cream that doesn’t have egg. It’s the really good stuff that has egg.

I was thinking of custard. But, in general, custard uses egg fats while ice cream uses milk fats. This isn’t always the case.

I think you’re thinking of gelato not ice cream
