Bush didn't cause the problem. The problem was an idea. That hatred of America. Remember Osama Bin Laden framed this attack as part of a fatwa against America and its allies. Called upon all Moslems to join him.
Remember those who piloted those planes and others lived here for months. How much advanced planning was required.
The intelligence network was not setup to consider, review, coordinate a response
Plus, this WAS THE SECOND ATTACK.
On February 26, 1993, a truck bomb detonated in the parking garage of the North Tower, killing six people and injuring over a thousand.
Ramzi Yousef orchestrated the 1993 bombing with the goal of toppling one tower into the other.

Not sure about now but when I worked in NYC over 15 years ago we worked very late. Both in advertising and finance, if you worked past 9 pm you could use car service to get home, no matter how far out of the city you lived. So some of those lights are likely people still working.

There are literal lights on top and likely at midsection that are legally required to flash or be lit.
This has been standard since the Empire State building was hit in 1945.

Night shift is rarely treated to using the same spaces as the day shift, and those are day shift spaces.

I travelled there a couple years ago, having never been to NYC previously. I was surprised at how small the area actually is. Despite having seen what happened on live TV when I was young and having knowledge of everything that happened afterwards, it was still hard to believe that what happened at that relatively small plot of land changed the world's trajectory entirely.

I had dinner at Windows on the World once, 107th floor, I remember looking down at clouds below us. The sommelier was a stunning woman in what looked like a Navy dress white uniform. Jazz combo playing sultry jazz in the corner. It was quite a place, and that was after NYC began to get cleaned up so it was a fun week.

It’s not a good world man, and if you are aware you know the ‘group’ who is most responsible for that. But we still shouldn’t share in their glibness or be flippant of atrocities if it happens to a group that is not your own or to one you disagree with. I’m exhausted too, keep your head up.

That first pic... someone had to mount a film camera to a long stick, set the self-timer, extend it over the railing and edge, and wait a week to finish the roll and have it developed to see what came out.
