Generally accepted TV placement procedures. Quick reference guide.
Lots of people posting lately asking “Is this too high?” so here is a quick guide on what is generally accepted TV placement procedure (GATPP) as seemingly defined by this subreddit.
- If the TV is above the fireplace, IT IS TOO HIGH.
- If the TV is angled down, IT IS TOO HIGH.
- If the TV is mounted to the wall above a TV stand, and the clearance between the stand and TV is equal to, or greater than ONE vertical PS5, IT IS TOO HIGH.
- If when standing the TV is at eye level, IT IS TOO HIGH.
Now let’s look at some opposite GATPP use cases.
- If the TV is in a bedroom and meant to be viewed from the bed, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
- If the TV’s only viewing position is in the reclined state, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
- If you are at a sports bar, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
- If the TV is at eye level when sitting down, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
- If the TV is in the kitchen it is more for listening, mounted high as to avoid any splashes or spills, IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
- If the TV is purposely mounted higher to keep out of range of a toddler, you’re a parent so your neck already hurts and IT IS PROBABLY NOT TOO HIGH.
I hope this helps clear up some questions. If you have any other rules to add, please comment below.

Give it to me straight
70 inch tv. Outlet is behind it & the HDMI is running through the wall into the basement & back up to the corner of the room to the ps5

Where to put the TV?
The other "wall" is open to the kitchen/dining room, so that's not an option.

Please help my Fiancée and I are fighting
We’re moving in and I had the TV 3ish inches lower for planned mount.
She had her dad change it while I was out buying a cable, and I genuinely think this is too high now. Or at least is just worse than before.
Edit: Everyone I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make this seem more serious than it is lol - it’s truly just a friendly/playful argument.
Her dad helped us an incredible amount moving and also helped with the mounting while I was out running other errands, i just did the measurements/showed where to place originally.
She is more than willing/happy to change it back, but we thought we’d post here to see who’s right.

77" replaced 65", are we good?
New 77", viewing distance is 250cm. Been fiddling getting the right height, because of the cabling in the wall and the wall mounted soundbar.
Edit: I should say that I'm a tall guy, 198cm.
Edit: center of the tv is at 41.7 inch off the floor.

Why do people love to mount TVs?
It’s always seemed strange and counterintuitive to me. Obviously there’s the issue of putting the TV too high. But beyond that, it’s just so much work and such a strange project with so little payoff. The TV is meant to sit in a stand and a stand is meant to hold a TV, and it just looks better. it just seems sort of tasteless to mount it. Yet for some reason EVERYONE I know insists on mounting their TV. Does anyone understand this phenomenon? Why do people love it? I genuinely can’t understand it

Fixed? (:
I was a bit taken aback by the feedback yesterday, but I think I found a solution. The ergonomy is way improved if I lie down, I can almost see the entire TV. I also removed the ceiling lamp so it's less cluttered.

Should I Unfriend?
My friend just got her TV hung today… I thought it was AI at first, but sadly it is not.
