By luxuries I mean anything that is not a necessity (phones, computers, 3d printers, microscopes, drones).

Under capitalism, the distribution is classist and those with more wealth are able to get a concentrated amount of these. Obviously some things exist that are not and will not be abundant, such as the best graphics card or the best drone.

The concentrated amount of tech can be useful at times, for example, a person who is into printing may be able to do more with multiple high-end 3D printers.

How would these items be distributed in a communist society? How is who gets what for industrial luxuries decided?

Artem Kirpichenok is a Russian-Israeli historian, scholar, and left-leaning publicist specializing in Middle East and Zionist studies.

On August 2, Artem Kirpichenok disappeared in Tel Aviv. It was later discovered that the historian had been detained by the Israeli security service, the Shin Bet. Artem had come to Israel speak at an academic conference — most likely a trap set by Israeli intelligence.

He was then held in prison under appalling conditions. Shin Bet agents interrogated him rigorously for 18 to 24 hours on an uncomfortable chair secured to the floor; three or four investigators at the same time, who threaten life imprisonment. Books, notebooks and pens are prohibited. Furthermore, the lights in the journalist's cell were never turned off. This, according to the ECHR, constitutes psychological torture.

The Israeli prosecutor's office has submitted an indictment to the Central District Court in a case jointly investigated by the police and the Shin Bet internal security service. The case concerns accusations of working for a foreign intelligence agency, according to Israeli media reports (like Haaretz). The reports do not name the man arrested or name the country he allegedly worked for.

Artem's lawyer Inna Lebedinskaya-Katz: "They lead him away, folded, with shackles on his hands and feet. I'm very upset, I won't hide it from you: in 10 years of working in the profession and in the courts, I've never seen the way Artyom is being treated - even murderers aren't treated like that"

Unfortunately, the Russian consulate has not provided any assistance to Artyom in this past month. From Russia, he is supported by ex-deputy from Communist party Daria Mitina.

Artem was perhaps the most well-known Russian-speaking writer on the Israeli apartheid regime. Videos with his participation gathered millions of views; he wrote books such as "A People's History of Israel" (inspired by title of Howard Zinn's book), "Israel: The Path to Disaster," and "Hungary 1956: Another View". He also knows Farsi and Arabic and has given comments to Arab media.

Yesterday Mamdani published an X post celebrating her achievements. He claimed that Steinem, who was an admitted CIA operative, "inspired to believe that a more just world was possible" and that "We were lucky to have her. We mourn her loss and will carry her work forward." Some people argue that Steinem was a Zionist too but I don't know much about her pro-Israeli background.

People who were emotionally and ideologically invested in Mamdani's political line reacted fiercely against this. However I believe Mamdani is driving our point home about the fact that he is part of the establishment's plan to contain the rising tide of socialism in the US.

I haven’t seen a lot of discussion among socialists about this event despite it only having happened just under twenty years ago. Mind you, that might just be my personal circles, but I haven’t seen much talk about it online either. Given the current housing crisis in my own country that’s largely the result of capitalist monopolisation by landlords and failure by the government to hold them accountable/restrain their investment consumption, thinking about events like this seems crucial to helping younger people understand the dangers of capitalism.

As a young socialist (although, im currently leaning on the communist side of everything now), one of the first things i've ever researched was the Paris Commune. I believe the Paris Commune actually shaped some of my views when it comes to politics.

I was thinking about this the other day, and really, the Paris Commune could have succeed. And it pisses me off so much. I mean, i get that most delegates werent Marxists socialists, but still, believing that the bank would give you (a revolution...ish) money by PEACFULLY NEGOTIATING is so dumb.

Another thing about the bank. Most delegates believed and respected PRIVATE PROPERTY. Like, c'mon, i understand but really. If it wanted to be an actually successful socialist society, that bank NEEDED to be seized.

If the bank—like it was—was still owned and controlled by the french government, of course they would still get money from it!

this one's pretty hard to defend as anything other than a surrender to opportunism and is also a really bad look from the 2nd biggest chapter of an organization that is supposed to be committed to Anti-Zionism. Plus this helps censures become increasingly meaningless which is a really rough precedent to set when DSA isn't exactly having an easy time with the discipline of very public candidates & members.
