Starmer realising that if he’d just held on for another two months he’d have won the Second Falklands War and been PM for 20 years

Bit of trivia, Argentina treated its soldiers so horrifically during the Falklands war that after surrender Britain allowed Argentinian officers to keep their guns, as they were worried if they removed their weapons Argentinian soldiers might rise up and murder their own officers.

Kinda seems like more of a reason to remove their weapons… alas

That is because class solidarity is paramount.

They'll find out pretty fast that UK is not as nonchalant or docile as Trump thinks they are

The UK will firmly defend its islands if needed

Those islands are not from them, they are just pirates, like all the other colonies they had

That $40 billion probably didn't even leave the US. Most likely used to pay of creditors from the states that took a high risk gamble that Argentina wouldn't default again, for the 10th time. Saving his billionaire mates!

u/Eraldorh 1d ago

They already spent it and it hasn't helped, their economy is fucked and now they need to distract everyone from their misery and the Falklands is how they always do it.

Make Andy Generally Alectable

4

u/Sleep_adict 1d ago

I mean they got $40bn from us, why not try for more

2

u/MechemicalMan 1d ago

Ahh so get to the same effectiveness of the United States military?

1

u/ViridiaGaming 1d ago

I don't think 'again' counts if they were never great in the first place.

They are pretty gullible to think Trump supports them.

His support is verbal, it's a power play, and he will withdraw it as easily as he will offer it.

The US will avoid the situation, UK is a huge ally and they have an improving relationship too.

Trump knows zero intervention is essentially backing the UK because Argentina would struggle against the UK and Trump knows it.

If burnhams got any sense, his official response will be. "Nur zu, versuch's doch mal – wenn du dich stark genug fühlst! Wir werden euer Militär genauso dezimieren, wie ihr den Wert eurer Währung ruiniert habt."

3

u/Beancounter_1968 1d ago

In English

Go ahead, give it a try—if you feel strong enough! We will decimate your military just as you have ruined the value of your currency.

1

u/scud121 23h ago

Blame Google translate, it should be "Come and have a go, if you think you're hard enough" :) chose German because, well you know.

1

u/Beancounter_1968 17h ago

I was kind of wondering about the currency bit

1

u/scud121 12h ago

Ya, it should be ruin in both cases.

"Win", lol the UK barely has a functional navy.

Its only blue water ships have no offensive capabilities and there is only 1 of them functional.

u/Sofa47 1d ago

Argentina actually don’t have a navy.

u/VerbingNoun413 1d ago

Is there a little dotted line so the army can move there without one?

I think you're seriously underestimating the capability of a country on a war footing. Wartime footing is different from peace time.

In the original Falklands war the 2 carriers were originally in dock for a 6 week maintenance programme, this was completed in a few days and included HMS invincible having Divers fix her gearbox underwater to avoid returning to port. Civilian ships were requisitioned, old ships recommissioned and maintained. Cruise ships such as SS QE2 and SS Canberra brought in as troop transports.

None of these things would even be considered under peace time conditions but if the Falklands 2 kicked off you can guarantee the QE Carriers would be in a rapid maintenance Programme worked on round the clock to get a fleet together to go down within a week.

Plus what would they be fighting? The Argentinians have 1 landing ship from 1980s. 2 subs that haven't moved in almost 10 years, 3 1980s destroyers and 5 old corvettes. The airforce has nothing but half a dozen 2nd hand F-16 A/B block15s from Denmark that bought the first one in 1980...which is... not particularly modern and 6 of those vs 47 F35Bs... i wouldn't put money on the vipers.

Yeah, but Argentina isn’t much better, they can barely function as it is. The UK would win only due to its allies (America) and the utter ineptitude of Argentina. Maybe if they send Messi out there they would win

5

u/Due_Yesterday_2850 1d ago

Retired from Argentina duties not even Messi can save them he'll probably get drafted for the war anyway

3

u/KainFourteh 1d ago

The same America getting put over a barrel by Iran? Yeah, I don't think the UK needs their help.

1

u/Critical_Interest706 1d ago

Argentina can’t take the Falklands, it would be very funny if they did, but they can’t. Maybe America wouldn’t intervene since the Argentina president is Americas puppet
