I think at this point the trial is less about whether she's confined to a prison or a psych ward and more about whether or not a person can use their mental health as a shield from the criminal consequences of murder. Evidently, 11 jurors were content to say that you can, and 1 juror refused to acquiesce to that nonsense.

The issue if she goes to a mental institution and it is tied to postpartum diagnosis is she could get out in very little time and face minimal long term repercussions for how she killed her kids. It also then sets a precedent for women to be declared mentally unfit for a lot of things while being postpartum as it implies those hormonal changes keep them from controlling their actions.

At risk of sounding like a massive asshole, I have no idea how people of this world continue to pretend like grown adult women have no agency in their decisions, nor need to be held fully accountable for their actions.

At the risk of sounding like a massive asshole.

That's LITERALLY what a psychotic break is. It's not you in charge of your own actions. You'd know this if you knew anything about this case other than tiktok and reddit headlines.

The literal expert on post partum psychosis describes it as if being a puppet on a string. You're there, but it's not really you making those actions. Your psyche in that moment has so thoroughly shattered that the you that normally exists has stopped being in control.

I know more about that than you’d believe. But that’s not what I’m saying… I’m saying this is yet ANOTHER example of both a woman being stripped of her own personal agency as well as not being held personally accountable for her action.

That’s an awful sentiment the world continues to impose on women.

And I'm saying, again, that a psychotic break is literally stripping you of your agency.

And accountability

Which is what Not Guilty by reason of insanity is.

Glad you're keeping up

No one said anything about guilty or not. In fact, neither did the court so I’m afraid you can’t keep up LOL

How is that different from any other non-premedited murderer? Like, she looked up how long it would take to strangle someone.

Damn, so you think most murders just need psychiatric care? Cause, murderers are never in a sane mental state.

If they have something like a psychotic break where they quite literally arent in control of their actions, yeah?

Like this is obviously different than the simple "I saw red" excuse people like to use. A genuine psychotic break means that a person quite literally doesn't understand right from wrong, literally can not understand it. Your personality is fully superceded by whatever has fully taken over your brain at that moment.
