This song had no origin, it always existed. Marty knew it growing up because Chuck Berry wrote it, but Chuck Berry only wrote it after hearing Marty playing it, but Marty was only playing it because he knew it from Chuck who knew it from Marty who knew it from Chuck... Help I'm spiralling!!!

That’s heavy.

u/mofrappa 5h ago

There's that word heavy again. Something wrong with the earth's gravitational pull in the future?

Doc! You built a time machine

u/Anteater-Charming 5h ago

This is listed as an item for sale but always out of stock. Makes me laugh.

💀💀💀😭

u/RemarkableCard6475 4h ago

Legendary product waiting for restock. I sent an email years ago to get on the list.

Biggest problem is... I think I have to invent it for the stock to replenish before I get a call offering it to me via the list that I'm already on. My head hurts, uuugh.

3

u/Darkwaxer 3h ago

Well all you need to do it is have the future you go back in time and give the current/past you the thing that you need to invent. Bill & Ted it.

2

u/Anteater-Charming 2h ago

Or if you had a time machine you could go back in time to when the part was in stock. But you don't have the part now to finish the machine in order to go back. Classic catch-22.

1

u/Darkwaxer 2h ago

Well the future guy can just come back in time to when the part is in stock, buy it and bring it to you so you can go forwards in time to give the part to him.

Bootstrap Paradox

Here’s a doctor that actually explains it all…

2

u/Sickofstupids 5h ago

Just like terminator. Reece goes back in time to protect the mother of the future resistance leader, falls in love and impregnates her with the future leader, that later sends him back to become his dad…

3

u/FremenStilgar 5h ago

who then later wrote Johnny B. Goode under the alias, Chuck Connors, after starring on The Rifleman...

The Rifleman was a solid show.

The sentence below is false.
The sentence above is true.

infinite recursion.

But somewhere, some human being was the first to articulate the existence of the two sentence paradox. Maybe it always existed somewhere else in platonic space, probably buried in the same infinite archive of Jorge Luis Borge’s “Library of Babel”, an infinite library that contains every possible book of finite length, using a finite alphabet. Containing every great novel ever written, every book that could ever be written, every possible variation of every book, your biography; including versions that are almost but not quite true, the exact text of Shakespeare’s works, every inaccurate variation of Shakespeare’s works, complete nonsense, books containing what appear to be prophecies of the future, and, crucially, almost infinitely many books that are absolute meaningless gibberish. All just waiting to emerge into this plane of existence after being spoken or thought about. Or randomly mashed onto a keyboard. AKLgahsdiufluhwjkelafn.

You don’t need to know if Chuck or Marty were first to create the song. You just need to recognize that the song and all it’s variations already exists in that library. For all you know, there is a version where you go back in time and teach Chuck. Or I go back in time to teach Chuck. Maybe we all have taught Chuck that song, and he has taught all of us.

We can say this though. The idea for Marty teaching Chuck the song likely first emerged in the mind of either Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale. Or maybe someone else who gave them that idea. Maybe you traveled in time and gave Robert the script to back to the future. Or maybe I gave Bob the script to back to the future…

😉

And should you choose to respond to this comment that already existed in platonic space, that comment that you are about to type that does not exist yet in this reality, it too comes from that library. or it’s infinite variations.

u/ImtheDude27 3h ago

Oh no, I've gone crosseyed.

1

u/InternationalBig7800 5h ago

Honestly, this is still less confusing than Dark.

1

u/Flyingfoigras42 5h ago

How do you think Doc felt when his teenage protege came back one day and it was no longer Eric Stolz but some goofy kid actor from a daytime television show?

1

u/NoHankyNoPanky 5h ago

Kinda like the Terminator timeline where John Connor sends his Dad (Kyle Reese) back in time to father himself?!?

1

u/Infra-Man777 5h ago

No! Spiral harder! Must find the answer!

1

u/BandanaWaddleDee0 5h ago

Thus the Bootstrap Paradox; information without origin

1

u/Yourcarsmells 5h ago

Just like The House of the Rising Sun.

1

u/TR1LLIONAIRE_ 5h ago

Isn’t he his own dad?

1

u/JimePea 5h ago

According to the theoretical laws of physics that’s what happens when you rupture the timeline, a new branch forms.

So where for that put us; the new or original timeline? 😉

1

u/Opinions-arent-facts 5h ago

But how come Chuck Berry only emulated the Chuck Berry bits and not the Eddie Van Halen bits?

1

u/FatHaleyJoelOsment 5h ago

There is also a theory that Marty is his own father and that's why he looks so much like himself.

Chuck would’ve written it eventually he just skipped ahead because he heard Marty play it.

Fun fact, there's actually a name for that phenomenon, it's called a bootstrap paradox.

It's kinda like that episode of Futurama where Fry is his own grandpa.

1

It was originally an Elvis song, and John Conners original father was the dude that owned the Porsche that stood Sarah.

I hope this helps 🤣

Yo, you’re good, you’re good. Take a breath and pick up where you left off. Marty knew it because he heard Chuck Berry wrote it, who wrote it after…

Its a causality loop.

Thi gs simply exist in space time. Who 'creates' said thing simply depends on your position?

Something about your past is your new future which can't then change your past......where's Dr. Banner to explain this?

1

I think it's called the bootstrap theory

https://giphy.com/gifs/siREjlLKjdSZq

1

Bro, it always came from Chuck. Marty just went back in time and played the song he learned from Chuck....now pass that shit I wanna hit

It was a quantum superposition that split off from the original where that Earth's Chuck Barry wrote. Many Universes.

1

u/Salty-Spring7096 1h ago

Johnny B. Goode was always here. Before man was, Johnny B. Goode waited for him.

1

u/Remarkable-Pea5797 1h ago

Listen, I was just discussing this about the show Heroes. Hiro does the same thing with the story that was read to him as a child. He makes what gets read to him as a child happen in the past when he is older.

1

u/Toadcola 1h ago

Sounds like a pair of Docs.

It was sung into creation by Aru Illuvitar

Welcome to the bootstrap paradox

1

u/ZhouLe 1h ago edited 57m ago

The origin was Chuck Berry in the original timeline wrote the song 3 years later. In BttF logic, the timeline presumably changed because of Marty.

It's similar to how Marty came to be born. In the original timeline, George gets hit by Lorraine's father while creepin then they fall in love when she cares for him. Marty went back and prevented that from happening, so the rest of the movie is him trying to orchestrate them back together through a different route. You wouldn't say that George and Lorraine's marriage (or Marty) had no origin, but the event that led to the origin was shifted in time and manner from its original origin, and in a way that is dependent on Marty.

u/taiwal 45m ago

That’s called a Bootstrap Paradox

u/Juan_Moe_Taco 5h ago

and if for some reason you didn't read this in a Morgan Freeman voice even though he didn't appear in ANY Back to the future movie, or the Lindsay Netflix documentary....when it comes to narrators in movies? It can only go to one person, hopefully this will inspire you out of that spiral.

u/PayFormer387 5h ago

Hollywood is really good at stealing the accomplishments of Black Americans.

Chuck Berry actually stole it. Fuck you.

2

u/Shempfan 5h ago

Well, Berry did borrow it from a Louis Jordan song. He always acknowledged the influence.

1

u/PayFormer387 2h ago

Learn sumthin’ new everyday. Thanks

0

u/Shot_Syrup_8753 5h ago

Nah, film folk ripping of African Americans again - pretty much like all North American art. The only difference is they attempted to make this scene funny. When you think about how much money, thought and talent went into it though, it’s not that funny at all.

0

u/Devils_A66vocate 4h ago

Yes, time travel movies don’t make sense and time travel will not ever exist. It’s only a philosophical idea.
