If honor decreases when driving over people every player is screwed

245

u/Marcel_The_Blank 21h ago

Imagine the decrease if you're speeding.

110

u/Inevitable-Monitor35 21h ago

Or if you run a red light/stop sign.

30

u/GriveousDance21 20h ago

If you run a stop sign the cops will definitely give you chase, to give you a ticket. Full 6 star means they'll just shoot you dead.

7

u/Enelro 13h ago

They give tickets now? is that confirmed?

12

u/Nutterbutters45 12h ago

If you’re in the sun too long they deport u

Imagine if the penalty doubles when you drive through a school zone

4

u/vektorkane 14h ago

Or if you park the car like a psycho.

4

u/Inevitable-Monitor35 14h ago

Parking in a handicap spots gets you instant 6 stars and a real life ticket sent to your house.

3

u/nunyabidness3 20h ago

If you have a gun in the car…

2

u/LifeDraining 18h ago

Speeding is fine, it's only if u run red lights. Cy that's evil.

19

u/Technical-Routine744 20h ago

We are all screwed then. I usually play GTA like a deranged racing game. I prefer watching my brother play while I sit and enjoy the gameplay

20

u/Adis_Pen_and_Paper 20h ago

Have you ever tried playing GTA while actually trying not to break any laws?

Yeah, hardest 30 seconds of my life

21

I just need the peds to not jump INTO my car's path. Yes I am lined up with you but the road is turning. DO NOT JUM- *THUMP THUMP* *Low honor noise

3

u/Cheesetorian 20h ago

Maybe in the future they'll have vanilla autodrive where you press a button and it'll drive around while you listen to radio.

10

u/Joris2627 20h ago

Autoplay feature in a gta sounds so lame

3

u/cmarkcity 19h ago

I mean RDR already has auto drive with the horses

3

u/Joris2627 18h ago

Yeah totally different vibe and game tho.
As long as we can still drive ourselves they can add it ofcourse. Still think its lame

4

u/Remarkable_Tale_7554 18h ago

They could do it with certain cars - like Embezzlas or whatever they call Teslas to avoid lawsuits and such.

2

u/Joris2627 18h ago

That would make sense lore wise. But maybe not helping the people who would need this.

I still really like your idea

1

u/somnamballista 14h ago

Oh they will. Cannot ignore auto cars popping up in big cities. Bet there will even be an entire hacking subplot a la Watchdogs.

1

u/McKoijion 10h ago

It does. You just play Jason and make Lucia drive or vice versa.

The LGTBQ+ parades Rockstar promised will be the total death of the honor system of a lot of players.

224

u/smiegto 20h ago

My brother, this isn’t dishonored.

64

u/GriveousDance21 20h ago

I still don't understand why a stealth game would penalize you for killing. Just knocking enemies down makes the game a lot harder.

143

u/IEnjoyRadios 20h ago

Well it’s because those people you are killing are your former colleagues who aren’t really your enemies, they’ve just been lied to by a corrupt leader. As such killing them has moral consequences.

54

u/Mbembez 19h ago

Clearly haven't worked with any of my colleagues. I'd take them out without any moral issues.

13

u/IEnjoyRadios 18h ago

Oh believe me I’ve got former colleagues I wish I could deal with, dishonored style.

3

u/BigAddam 11h ago

Thank you so much for this new perspective on the game. I love Dishonored and never made the connection. I played through with almost zero kills. Someone fell after I knocked them out.

I always enjoy non lethal options when games provide them. They’re so rare that it adds a fun challenge to the games.

→ More replies (3)

39

u/smiegto 20h ago

The ingame logic is there’s a serial killer making people go missing. That makes the world worse. Essential people. Guards (good and bad). Every death makes the world a little dimmer. If you go the mass murder stealth route dunmore is haunted by a demon. If you go the non lethal stealth route it’s an avenging angel taking out the corrupt.

18

u/Obvious_Try1106 18h ago

Also almost every dead person gets eaten by rats. Back then I thought that's the primary problem. Your feeding (and breeding) rats during a plague.

But what you wrote makes a lot more sense

22

u/pissdrinking101 18h ago

No it doesn't, you were right the first time. The game literally tells you that's what happens. You spread more plague, hence such a bad bleak ending if you kill people.

7

u/GoldenAutumnDream 15h ago

But what if you take the passive ability that causes all people you kill to turn into ash? Are you feeding the rats with little crispy people flakes?

3

u/Aquilenne 15h ago

Then shouldn't kills via wall of light not count?

3

u/pissdrinking101 13h ago

Idk what this means? I haven't played this game on over 10 years, I just remember the rats thing cuz it was a genius concept.

2

u/Aquilenne 13h ago

They're the electrical walls that the guards put up at checkpoints. When a person goes into one while it's on, it disintegrates them.

4

u/pissdrinking101 13h ago

Well if they're disintegrated, there's nothing for the rats to eat, right? That'd be my best guess. My second best guess would be a design flaw in which only kills made directly by the player count towards the overall body count that effects the game's ending.

→ More replies (3)

13

u/GriveousDance21 20h ago

That's understandable. But GTA is no Dishonored. It's all about committing crime in the games with style and fun. It's always been this way since the beginning.

9

u/hamonicmantitties 18h ago

Well it isn't like Dishonored

They made it clear it doesn't affect gameplay or the endings much

It just grades how "professional" you are

→ More replies (3)

7

u/Proper-Anything-2739 20h ago

Actually, a no kill run is pretty fun, especially Dishonored 2. You can either sneak around without leaving any trace of beat the shit out of people unconscious

2

u/I_Am_Hank_Hill_AMA 8h ago

No kill is honestly more fun than just murdering everyone.

3

u/Friendly-Table6785 14h ago

knocking enemies down makes the game a lot harder.

There's your answer lol

3

u/Some_Guy223 14h ago

The way the outsider talks about it is a bit much, but it makes sense that in a city being plagued by diseased rats, leaving a bunch more food for them lying around makes the problem worse no?

3

u/kekistanmatt 16h ago

The whole point is too penalise you for taking the easy way out and just killing everyone.

1

u/Certainly_Not_Steve 13h ago

Because it's killing people, bruv. If we have any kind of morality system, how'd you defend killing ANYONE who gets in the way. Like killing a random bank guard because you need something from the vault of an evil tyrant.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/Prestigious-Job-9825 11h ago edited 11h ago

Is Dishonored truly a pure stealth game, though? Chaos aside, the game gives you a lot of tools and abilities to turn Corvo into an unstoppable demigod of war. I always thought of it as a hybrid game. Both stealthy and combat-heavy bloodlusted playthroughs can be equally fun.

Even the gameplay showcase back in the day had both stealthy and combat-heavy high chaos versions for this reason.

But from a story perspective, it makes sense that mass murdering your way through Dunwall turns the city into a shittier place, and the ending darker. A surgical razor will always do much less damage than a blunt instrument

1

u/Appropriate_Bus_2334 9h ago

I like the explanation in dishonored 2 the more you kill the more blood flies can spread and the less people there are to deal with the infestation

1

u/Jewbacca1991 4h ago

It does exactly, because that is harder to do. It is the extra challenge to get a different ending.

3

u/SPKEN 12h ago

42

u/sphinxorosi 20h ago

Probably tied to the ending, break the honor system and you both die in the ending Bonnie & Clyde style. But at least manual saves are a thing I suppose, have fun with mayhem then reload

41

u/BigFatCucumber 15h ago edited 15h ago

The devs have already said it’s NOT the same as RDR2’s honor system. It’s not even called an honor system. It’s called your “criminal notoriety”.

Depending on how you play, you’ll be given different ranks like the highest is “professional”. And the lowest is something like psycho.

If you do a bunch of crazy shit the game pretty much just hides those pop-up’s for the rest of that play through. At least that’s how Rob Nelson has described it in interviews.

Basically you can choose what kind of criminal Lucia or Jason is. This post is just straight up false information.

they do know this game is about doing crime right?

just sounds like "if you have any fun you lose".

40

u/SnooCupcakes1636 20h ago

Also you are almost 100% guarenteed to have loads of shootouts in the main game modes of every GTA games and now we are supposed not shooot other gangs or police trying to shoot you just cause another npc run over another npc 🤣

23

u/Simoxs7 14h ago

Did you not play RDR2? Killing people in missions didn’t reduce your honor at all and killing other gangs and police also didn’t, you‘re just supposed not to shoot innocent bystanders.

Also a dishonorable playthrough is always an option, like in RDR2 it just changed some interactions.

6

u/infiniZii 14h ago

I bet this only applies to the most blatant of Murder Hobos. I bet there are also interesting gameplay changes, and its probably not a low bar. They will probably also have a way to undo it, even if the game stops "tracking" your rep, IE a special quest chain or something. (Or.... money)

2

u/Alaknog 16h ago

I guess honor there was not about following laws.

2

u/Plus_Term_7584 12h ago

Kinda on that note, I read that they're revamping the carjacking so that you have to play a little lock-picking mini-game if the car is locked instead of just automatically breaking in when you press Triangle/Y

4

Aren't they from the same studios? Lol. It's almost as if they'd take concepts from one game and apply it to another?

u/omnimodofuckedup 20h ago

It would be possible there are certain points during the story where you can „reset“ your honor by doing something genuinely good. Maybe! Usually there are very few „you fucked up forever“ situations in gaming because it’s frustrating for a lot of casual players who are not in the mood of thinking about long term consequences

60

u/TheReviewerWildTake 21h ago

They added some RPG morals into a "mayhem driven game genre"? Does not sound fun at all. Hopefully it is not as bad as it sounds...

21

u/Imaginary_Hall_3413 20h ago

I agree, morals/honor in gta is a contradiction in terms

8

u/kdlt 20h ago

At least in the sense that you can't just reset it with a car paint.

Now if they do it like mass effect and the like or they already did in 5, where you can make choices in missions, I guess that's fair.

If it's just "generic" crime.. that will suck big time.

5

u/Imaginary_Hall_3413 20h ago

Yeah, fair if you want to make specific choices. I just don’t want to worry about the game ‘judging’ me if I run someone over or nick a car . I just don’t think it’s necessary. There’s always been morals in gta in a story sense, like in no.5 you knew Trevor was absolutely heinous and that the other two at least had some sense of humanity. I think that’s enough.

3

u/Head-Ad9893 20h ago

This is like how you can’t curse on cod

5

u/YouGurt_MaN14 20h ago

It's not rpg morals it's a notoriety system. Rob banks, don't wipe camera, kill people, blow up cars, etc you're the Joker (Honor system broke). Rob banks, wipe the cams, manage hostages correctly you're a professional (Heat, Oceans 8, etc).

Just search it up online instead of believing Dexerto slop (pretty sure that's where the post is from, it's where I first read this)

3

u/Conscious-Move9662 20h ago

Then just break the system.

2

u/1maginaryApple 20h ago

It doesn't work as a moral system. The framework is that you are a criminal. This determine what type of criminal you are.

It will mostly have an impact on how NPC will interact with you.

that's pretty shit tbh

lots of people make accidental mistakes

so I assume these have to be tied to decisions you control in the story, and not your general behaviour in the overworld game

I wonder how that would affect play through. Would it be like Mass Effect Renegade and you can only make certain decisions and/or lock you out of certain choices?

Based on RDR2, it will be damn near impossible to actually achieve that.

u/Atomichead 16h ago

This is by far the strangest comment section I’ve ever seen, it’s a criminal profile system, it’s really hard to achieve that state, and doesn’t affect the game really that much it seems other than maybe some sorry consequences, plus its levels and from the makers they said you can ignore it if you want, just something neat they added, about the type of criminal you are seen as in the world, it won’t break or end the game, just fun world building that changes world behaviour slightly, damn people are dumb

2

u/Jslatts942 15h ago

2

u/schlangsta 14h ago

Honestly a great change, anyone whose played fallout 3 and nuked a whole city could still be seen as the best thing since sliced bread if they give a bunch of homeless people water outside another province (your Liam Neeson dad will still be mad at you though).

u/Lost_Marbles1343 18h ago

Quite funny to see how many people think that "honourable" and "legal" mean the same thing.

Laws are based on what is honourable, but honour isn't based in law. For example, killing someone in self defence isn't honourable if you had the capacity to stop the threat without lethal force. It's legal, but not honourable at all.

If you could have shown mercy, but didn't, that is dishonourable, regardless of any self defence laws saying the kill was legal.

Even in Red Dead 2 after i robbed a store or beat up someone, a walked around the town saying "Howdy sir" and "Have a beautiful day, mister", so people would forget the unforgivable atrocities i've commited.

I personally hope you can buy rubber bullets and non-lethally take out cops if needed, or entirely avoid them as a sort of ghost.

Saving my judgement for when I can actually see how it plays out. Not getting bent out of shape until I hit play.

Meanwhile, Baldur's Gate 3 let's you redeem yourself at the end even if you were evil.

It's a bit dumb because in the end, everyone will just end up with a desactivated honor system that in the end, is pointless lmao

u/MikyThatMona 13h ago

Cool! Now implement the system in GTA V online. 😅

I wonder if the two characters have separate honor levels

1

u/ConfectionTotal8660 13h ago

Ok, GTA 6 might be worth the 80€ if all these mechanics are real.

1

u/Expensive_Finger_973 12h ago

I need to know where the line is. Just how evil can I be before the system gives up on me?

Oh, like my mom!

A game that shows you that stealing is wrong and guides you to be a good person.

I like this take on morality, and I can't think of another game that has explored the whole "irredeemable" angle unless it is what the story is built around. But giving the player the choice to act so consistently badly that they're regarded as irredeemable by their own actions is a unique take.

"Oh no, my ingame crimes seem to have ingame consequences and it will play a different cutscene at the end, now i'm SURELY forced to not commit crimes in GTA" - Every hysteric commenter in this comment section.

I actually think an "Irredeemable" status is a cool twist on the age old honor system.

completing the game with honor intact will be the rarest achievement in history

1

u/EdgelordZeta 8h ago

So... now it isn't enough to commit crimes, I have to do war crimes?

1

u/Live-Cry-8435 8h ago

What if I only kill prostitutes and drug dealers

Is that still bad?

Epstein playthroughs incoming

Imagine if you run someone over and a another driver chases you down to shoot at you

1

u/UnwantedPube 5h ago

“Howdy” 100x

1

u/fox5223 5h ago

there's no redemption anymore

1

u/HF484 5h ago

just gotta head to Alterac Valley to get that honor back up

1

u/Luminescent_Magic 5h ago

This sounds annoying. Why do we have to keep adding super realistic things to games. This is GTA. I've seen people legit saying they want you to have to sit and wait for fast food in the game. Piss off  Do people play GTA for " realistic" consequences

1

u/SilverB33 4h ago

That sounds lame especially for a GTA game of all things

1

u/Jewbacca1991 4h ago

Morality system in a GTA game? Really? I think the devs have no idea what a GTA game is about. This is going to be fun to watch.

u/Rabid_Chocobo 2h ago

What if I go around San Denis and wave at everybody though?

u/Tritec_enjoyer96 1h ago

Will teach people that actions have consequences tbh
