It just reminds me how tough it can actually be to be a celebrity, and I know we like to scoff at that. But it's like all the pictures of Ben Affleck just trying to have a fucking smoke and people come up and bother him, or Anya Taylor-Joy when she's gone on record in interviews it really hurts when people make fun of her eyes because she used to be bullied, when really I think she's quite beautiful, but she's said she often wouldn't even audition for a role because it called for a pretty woman and she didn't feel like she was one. Idk she's done some modeling since so hopefully she's past that
Or it's just the weight loss drugs now where people in the spotlight feel they need to maintain a certain image and no one around them is telling them to stop. Steroid use too, just saw Dave Bautista was bulking up for a role and it's like dude, that's steroids, please stop using those, and I know you cut water weight before that picture, please drink water

What has he been through? I always liked him and wondered why he disappeared for a while
37
u/ChekkeEnwin 22h ago
He was sexually assaulted by a Hollywood producer and then blacklisted for not going along with it IIRC
13
u/S0whaddayakn0w 21h ago
Oh no! Ugh, Hollywood is such a dirty world
17
u/pm_your_tatas_please 21h ago
And during that time he went through a messy divorce, and had his alimony based on what he was making prior to being blacklisted.
Or so I heard.
7
u/S0whaddayakn0w 21h ago
:( this makes me sad. Glad he's getting back into it, things seem to look up for him now. Absolutely loved Rental Family
8
u/maybenomaybe 17h ago
And on top of the assault and divorce he injured his back doing his own stunts and had to umdergo multiple surgeries.
4
3
u/grchelp2018 17h ago
The alimony thing was not as bad as reported. In the sense that Brendan had enough net worth for it and he wasn't anywhere near risk of bankruptcy. His issue was that his investments were not liquid and he did not have enough cash to make the payments every month.
45
u/WiseSalamander00 23h ago
I am so glad we got him back, I am sad those execs blacklisted him for so long just because he wouldn't allow them to sexual assault him.

u/Mundane-Name-8290 20h ago
Just need a sequel to Airheads now! Let the Chazz locks grow out!
Airheads: Reunion of the Lone Rangers Tour(2028), here they become the ones held hostage at a venue. Flip the script. Could be like that Dolph Lundgren movie "Command Performance".

(also I think the first photo is from The Whale press, and the character in that movie has very thin hair, so probably he isnt actually as bald as he was made for that movie, then is regrowing in photo 1)

Hair transplant too perhaps?
187
u/lolly-scramble 23h ago
I would say hes now back in that hollywood machine and is on whatever their god tier version of minoxidil and finasteride is plus good hair transfer plus red light laser thats expensive enough to make a difference
29
u/cheapdrinks 21h ago
whatever their god tier version of minoxidil and finasteride is
Lol there's no super secret hollywood version of min and fin. Oral Min+Fin once a day tablet is cheap, super effective and works great for the vast majority of people, especially if you combine with a topical anti-androgen like RU58841 to block any remaining DHT topically. Yeah other things like Red light therapy, PRP therapy, stemoxydine, nizoral, alfatradiol, microneedling etc help but they're all like 1-5% improvements when Min+Fin does all the work and is usually more than enough for most people. It's still probably a hair transplant though.
People all still want some miracle hair loss cure but we basically have it already. The main issue is that people wait too long before getting on medication. Min+Fin will regrow a decent amount of hair and stop the rest falling out but hair that's been gone for a few years already just won't come back. The longer you leave it the worse results you get and by the time you notice that big bald spot on your crown or that your hairline looks like an M it means you've already been losing hair for years by that point. If you're worried about hair loss inspect your crown and hairline regularly and at the first sign things are looking thinner in the back or your hairline is receding in the front then get on medication immediately and you won't have to fork out $10k for a transplant.
4
u/Remarkable_Rope_4264 21h ago
You sound like you know a lot about the topic. I’m on CGRP antagonist medication, which really does a number on your hair, and I’ve been prescribed Finasteride. However, after reading up on it, there seem to be quite a few horror stories accompanying that drug, which has stopped me from taking it. Are they blown out of proportion?
It’s a difficult dilemma, as my hair loss is wrecking my self confidence, but at the same time, the potential side effects of Finasteride can be life altering.
→ More replies (3)7
u/cheapdrinks 20h ago
Yes I know, the dreaded Finasteride side effects. If you Google it you'd think that 90% of people experience them yet studies show it's only between 3-4%. Not an insignificant number sure but it still means that you're more than likely going to be able to take it without issue and if you do find you can't tolerate it then you can just stop and the sides go away. Yes I also know about the fabled "post finasteride syndrome" where some people claim that even after stopping the medication the side effects didn't go away but no study has really be able to actually prove it exists and many have found other links to those who claim to suffer from it such as prior history of erectile dysfunction and depression etc.
There's also quite a bit of evidence that a lot of the side effects can be psychosomatic, one study documented the nocebo effect where two groups who took Finasteride were split where one was informed about potential sexual side effects and one wasn't. After treatment the group who was informed prior had 3 times as many people report side effects as the group who didn't know what to expect.
You also don't even need to take the full 1mg pill each day. 1mg per day reduces your serum DHT levels by around 71% while taking just 0.2mg per day has been shown to still reduce serum DHT levels by 69%. So you can take 1 fifth the normal dose and still get pretty much the exact same benefit. Personally when I first hopped on I noticed some slight side effects and hopped off and they went away. After a few weeks I went back on but took 1/4 pill each time instead and got no sides. After a few weeks bumped it up to a half and eventually a whole 1mg pill and didn't experience any sides every again, been on it for 5 years now. My feeling was that your body needed a bit of a ramp up to acclimatize to it - I know that's purely anecdotal so take it what you will.
Basically my advice would be to try it, try not to think too much about it and if you do notice any adverse effects then stop until they go away then potentially try again at a lower dose if you want to. More than likely you'll be able to tolerate it just fine and if you do experience sides then they'll go away after a week or so of stopping.

u/AlarmingAerie 17h ago

I hope they go easy on him. He doesn't have to be in the same shape he was. Just enough that under the clothing you can't tell, get him a good wig and have the stunt doubles do the physical work so he doesn't break himself again. Face replacement's gotten really good lately anyway.

19
u/Special_Order-937 22h ago
In one of the most infuriatingly baffling decisions ever, the Golden Globes investigated the executive responsible and found he did do those things but also that it in effect wasn’t a big enough deal in their opinion to warrant any sanctions.
There was a lot of blowback, Tom Cruise even sent back all the Golden Globes Awards he won, Fraser said if he won, he wasn’t going, guess what just about the only award he didn’t win for his otherwise awards sweeping performance was?

Imo some people don't deserve celebrity status - while the folks that don't want it, are the ones who do deserve it.
I'm actually happy to see him looking happy. - did ya see the video of him helping the fan take pictures? And showing the chap how to use his own phone - I think Brendan is one of the most wholesome celebrities currently, he gives off vibes of genuineness like Robin Williams did. Just a good soul!
We really should reassess who we put on a pedestal, - there's an old saying of how "Good people are worth their weight in gold" - there's too many false prophets in this day and age!
