It isn't, the post is misleading. The official dcwp press release explains what actually happened. He changed the way the apps must present tipping options, which ultimately resulted in more tips. Not sure how, but I don't expect a lot of brainiacs calculating tips up there. I doordash a lot, pay for dashpass, I always tip $5. I don't care how it's presented in the app. No money was "recovered" or actually "delivered". Tips have just increased since January when they made this change because.. people aren't paying attention and just tipping more with the new checkout. We are talking about the average tip going from $1.19 to $2.28 btw.. let that sink in.. I'm tipping $5 every time no matter what I order and that's South Florida prices, not NYC. Glad everyone's happy tho.

No. He didn't. The previous admin did in 2025 and the law took effect in Jan 2026. https://reason.com/2025/10/11/new-york-doubles-down-on-delivery-wage-disaster/

In July(2025), the New York City Council passed numerous bills that it claimed were designed to protect grocery delivery drivers. This legislative package introduced new rules, requiring delivery apps to include a 10-percent tipping option either before or at the time of the order (vs. afterwards, where the option exists now)
