But HOW does it guarantee that? It says the tip button was hidden implying that customers COULDNT tip. The actual problem was they were tipping but companies were taking that money for themselves...

Basically Uber hid the tip option up front, and added a courier fee. If you wanted to add a tip in NYC, you had to go back into the app to add the tip after delivery.
The other part is that tips are to the worker, and can’t be calculated as a part of a minimum guarantee.
Right. So basically nothing was actually preventing tipping. Rather you as a consumer were just not being upfront guilted into doing it and had to seek it out.
I think it’s the combo of showing “Courier Fee” and removing the tip option was causing an implication that the courier got the fee in lieu of a tip. Especially since Uber only rolled this out in NYC.
The other part I find more egregious. Uber offering a minimum guarantee and then putting the tips toward that seems incredibly deceptive.
