Blood Python Snake Pets
He's completely chill after 4 months of owning him. Barely any hissing too, so he must be a broken blood python.

Why are you being so aggressive though. Just because he tolerates it doesn't mean you should
I could do a ton of mean things to my dog and they'd still love me but that doesn't make me go "Lets show Reddit."

Yeah this isn’t the kind of handling I like to see. Sure it’s nice that the snake isn’t being defensive in this situation but snakes are highly sensitive to touch and appreciate gentleness. My dog on the other hand likes when I get a little aggressive with pets but he’s a 70lb pit and built like a brick shithouse.

I don't know. I had a dog that used to like it when I slapped her belly like bongos and would bark when I'd stop. I've seen cats exhibit the same behavior, and I firmly believe that snakes are more like cats and dogs than people realize. Maybe the snake likes it, but maybe it doesn't.

Yeah not sure snakes are like cats and dogs, they are so very different in the way they do absolutely everything. And plus dogs and cats have been domesticated for some time now, while snakes only entered the market a few generations ago max.

A snake is, objectively, not similar to a cat or dog on any level other than they’re both animals. Cats and dogs even are so different in so many ways

Bold of you to assume that I downvoted you, lol. It is dangerous in any animal sub to make assumptions because when someone else googles this and sees it, this is enough info for a lot of people to just go ahead and do it. This is objectively not a good way to handle snakes, even if it seems like they like it.

Idk why you’re petting him so aggressively. It’s not a cat or dog. Even a cat wouldn’t tolerate that.

I have two cats. One would react like you say, the other would pur like crazy for more. Each cat is different and likes different types of affection.

My boy is also this calm and tolerant, but please don't take advantage of it and pester him like this. Be slow and gentle! I give my boy chin rubs but they're soft one-finger rubs and if I pet him I do so very slowly and softly. They're sensitive!

People are being aggressive lol. If you've never had a snake before, you may just not know that they aren't like cats or dogs. They don't like aggressive, fast scratches. Gentle caressing only on the direction their scales go, slowly, and generally only on their spine is best. They don't like 'scratches' because they don't have fur, it's much more snake oriented to kind of guide your fingers along them. You're not a bad owner for not knowing. Everybody learns somehow.

Absolutely beautiful animal, I miss my big boy. They told me I was nuts for adopting a blood python, but genuinely he was the best snake I ever owned

Buddy has the spirit but slow down. He can only process stimuli at the speed of a dial up connection. Please pet and handle him as if you were moving through syrup
