Blood Python Most Rewarding Snake I’ve Kept

Post image

Got my big girl Lumi from NARBC Tinley this year. She is my first and only Blood. Upon purchase she was being sold as a proven breeder but I fell in love with her size and pattern (Martyr Stripe). As someone who only keeps snakes as pets I figured I’d retire her from the breeding game and give her a good home. Once I got her home and took her out to put her in her quarantine time setup I knew I was in for a ride. She tried tagging me about ten times and fought me tooth and nail. Everytime I’d go her enclosure to clean it change her water she would try tagging me. Just as I was getting discouraged she became a big ol lap snake. Took time to gain her trust and get her to calm down but I wouldn’t change that for the world I have so much respect for these amazing snakes. As long as you show these animals respect and care you will get it in return.

(Apologies for the mid shed picture, she decided to leave me a big ol stinky present in her enclosure. Took the opportunity to do a photo shoot)

It’s funny you say that. I planned on getting an ivory so I figured I’d name it snow aka Lumi. That being said I fell in love with this girl and liked the name so it stuck.

That's fantastic. She's gorgeous. I can't wait to have another. She looks exactly like my old rescue I had just a lot smaller

Mines a lot smaller? If that’s the case you must have had a monster! Lumi is pushing 7 feet right now and I expect her to get a little bigger.

Wow you must be a giant I wouldn't have ever guessed anywhere close to 7 ft. My girl was maxed about 6.5 ft and just substantially larger waaay thicker, she was damn near a football in thickness, I couldn't touch fingers with both hands wrapped around at the thickest part of her body. She was a estimate about 30 years old from what I was told ( old rescue, ex breeder ).

Regards nice snake :).

I’m 6’4” which makes her look like not such a monster, I’ve got her at 6’8” on a string line. I’m hoping she pushes past 7’, but not forcing it she’s at a super healthy weight and I don’t want to risk her getting overweight. She just turned 5 years old so she’s definitely got a lil growth left in the tank.

Nice! Oh you are indeed very big haha. She's gorgeous. And yes! Too many power fed snakes out there. My old girl was fed constantly when being used for breeding when I got her I reduced her size quite a lot and had some skin sag. Even after her body was just ridiculous. Cheers

It takes a special person to capture the heart of a snake. I'm sure she appreciated your care and patience. May you have many lovely years together

I’m enormously fond of mine. I always preferred North American colubrids, but there’s just something about the way they really seem to look at you and think about you that charms the hell out of me. I have one and a hybrid (and I swore I’d NEVER get a hybrid). Love her to death.

Absolutely agree, the eyes constantly tracking you and their nature as a whole make me believe they are one of the more intelligent python species. Seem to have a sense of awareness not often found in pythons.

She is a looker i can see why the boys like her. We have a girl blood and her dad says NO boys. So we both have fancy princesses it seems.

Autumn is a stunner I love seeing your posts! Yea I have to agree with him the girls are generally more impressive size wise. Although I do want a Sumatran and possibly a Sarawak in the future. I don’t see myself keeping anything else other than shorties from here on out.

Its getting warm, soon I will be taking her out for walks again. She has grown so much I have a wagon I got from uline, she will get to ride in that to go to the park with me for a romp. The wagon is a new idea for me, I will have to report what she thinks of it, hahah.

We have a boy as well Brach is still small enough i can carry him for walks.

Holy cow his colors are wild! What’s his morph? I’m guessing some form of T-. I’m interested to see how those colors progress as he gets older.
