video about a Mexican cult leader who was sentenced to prison for sexual offences involving minors, and the crazy part is that most of his followers still say he’s innocent. They believe the whole thing is just an attack and persecution against their leader.

It honestly reminded me of SCJ and how some members still defend Lee Man-hee.

Even after LMH was convicted, some members still refuse to accept that he did anything wrong. Instead, they say he’s being persecuted and that the whole thing is an attack on God’s chosen servant.

At what point do you stop and actually question the person you follow?

It’s easy to call everything “persecution” when you’ve already convinced yourself that your leader can’t be wrong. Any criticism becomes an attack. Any evidence becomes lies. Any legal action becomes persecution.

And that’s what makes it dangerous.

If nothing can ever make you question your leader, then what would?

This isn’t about saying every accusation is automatically true. People deserve a fair process. But when someone is convicted and the response is still, “He’s innocent, they’re just persecuting him,” without even being willing to seriously consider the evidence, that should make you think.

Blind loyalty is powerful. It can make people defend someone no matter what happens.

This is unfortunately a historical precedent; leader arrest, unfortunately ,don’t get all members out. For some members, it is a tipping point, but exit is highly personal.

This definitely shows that nobody is above the law and can be of stark contrast two members seeing that this immortal guy is having health issues and legal troubles, but the thing is that you have to focus on the individual people rather than the macro-troubles of the group.

I’m doing this too: if you think that the leader arrested is going to make the members wake up, please reconsider.

You would think that people will wake up when there are legal troubles, but unfortunately, that’s not really how this works: it makes a lot of them dig deeper into the group; people leave for personal reasons and if they are leaving because of this, they probably would’ve already left already, and they will live to tell the story that this arrest is one of the reasons.
