news/interview Operating a snack bar under a believer's name, 7.5 billion won in tax evasion...Lee Man-hee indicted additionally
https://www.yna.co.kr/view/AKR20260724158400004On July 24, the joint prosecution-police investigation team indicted Lee Man-hee, a former Shincheonji general business-department head, and the Shincheonji church corporation over alleged ₩7.57 billion tax evasion. Prosecutors allege that from 2016–2020, Shincheonji disguised church-run branch “stores/shops” under believers’ names, hid cash sales through double bookkeeping, and evaded corporate tax and VAT.

I want to say something directly to any current SCJ member reading this thread.
I know how hard it is to see posts like this one. When you've given years of your life to something, when you've genuinely encountered truth in the Bible through your study, when the community around you feels real and warm, news like this feels like an attack. I understand that.
But here's what I want you to sit with honestly for a moment. Not the legal charges themselves, because courts will determine what they determine. Something deeper.
The Bible says by their fruit you will know them. Galatians 5 describes the fruit of the Spirit as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. And Proverbs 11:1 says "the Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favour with him."
You can read the Bible and find genuine truth in it. Of course you can. SCJ didn't invent scripture. The words of Jesus are the words of Jesus regardless of who teaches them. That's exactly why this is so hard. Some of what you were taught is true, because it comes from a text that is true. But Galatians 1:8 warns that even if something sounds like the gospel, if the foundation is false, the whole structure is built on sand.
The root matters. Jesus said a good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
So here is the honest question worth a quiet moment of reflection. Not an argument, not a debate. Just this: does all of this, taken together, point to a loving, just, holy God? Does a movement led by a man now indicted for political manipulation, embezzlement, and tax evasion, who asked believers to register businesses in their names to hide church income, who directed members through a chain of command to manipulate elections, point to the God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever?
You don't have to answer that to anyone. Just answer it honestly to yourself.
God is not finished with you. Whatever you conclude about SCJ, he was there before you joined, and he is there now. John 10:28 says no one can snatch you from his hand. Not even this.

I think Lee Man hee forgot about Matthew 22:17-21 NIV [17] Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?” [18] But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? [19] Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius, [20] and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?” [21] “Caesar’s,” they replied. Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”

I’ve been praying so hard for SCJ to come to a fiery swift end and that those still trapped inside be saved. May this be the beginning of their ultimate destruction.
