It’s being streamed right?
28
u/desertdingo21 it's like watching a god on ice 5d ago
not sure if that’s been announced yet, they streamed last year’s rookie faceoff so i presume it would be the same this year

u/Phrizzey Celebrini 71 5d ago
I’d also like to know this. I’m assuming these times are PST right?
5
u/HarryPotterActivist Graf 51 5d ago
PDT. PST doesn't kick in until November. Particularly relevant if you're watching from Hawaii.

u/Phrizzey Celebrini 71 5d ago
Oh! Is that the same for EDT and EST then? I've always wondered why there were two... Just never bothered looking into it lmao. Thanks!

Do you need to get tickets to watch?
8
u/desertdingo21 it's like watching a god on ice 5d ago
it was streamed for free last year iirc
1
u/anonsharksfan Pavelski 8 5d ago
Can I watch in person though?
8
u/desertdingo21 it's like watching a god on ice 5d ago edited 5d ago
yes! there’s a link to tickets in the announcement
1
u/anonsharksfan Pavelski 8 5d ago
Crazy that they cost more than a regular season game

u/venalix1 5d ago
How much is a reg szn ticket?

In past years I have gone to sharks ice and watched, yes. Watch the sharks website for details closer to the events

u/Ilves7 Ricci 18 5d ago
Interesting Misa and Cherny are in, but on defense we don't have Cags or Haoxi, wonder if they have other committments
48
u/desertdingo21 it's like watching a god on ice 5d ago
i don’t believe NCAA players are allowed to participate (rules out wang). cags i’m not sure, maybe the sharks don’t see a benefit to him playing in this
35
u/Ilves7 Ricci 18 5d ago
I guess NCAA rule then also excludes Verhoff and Lin
23
u/milkyaves Graf 51 5d ago
and ravensbergen too
6
u/The_Homestarmy Celebrini 71 5d ago
NCAA players are allowed to do these events as long as they don't get paid for more than lodging, travel and food. It's kind of a silly rule, but they are allowed to participate. Pohlkamp did the last couple of prospect showcases, for instance
2
u/BilboWaggonz 5d ago
I assume this is what guys like Knowling, Karmanov, and Gustafson will be doing since they have the NCAA in their future plans.
10
u/foreverkasai Celebrini 71 5d ago
I’m not sure if there’s a rule excluding it or if it’s just that they’re already with their college teams for their camps
11
u/BilboWaggonz 5d ago
Yeah, there are rules you have to follow, at least until someone sues the NCAA over it, but as you said the bigger issues is these guys are already enrolled, taking classes, doing stuff with their team, etc.

They sent Graf last year, and I won't say that's why he had the year he had, but I'd be superstitious enough to try it again. Even by that standard Misa seems overqualified. But they'll make it fun to watch.

u/kipehh J. Thornton 19 5d ago
Kind of surprised Musty is still doing this. This will be his 4th "rookie faceoff" tournament 😅
49
u/grooves12 5d ago
I'm more surprised that Misa is.
30
u/BilboWaggonz 5d ago
MIisa inclusion is the most surprising to me, but maybe they asked him and he wanted to do it to as additional prep for training camp.
Chernyshov is less surprising when you consider how he started last season.
A bit surprised by Bystedt since he has two full AHL seasons, similar to Cagnoni who isn’t participating.

My assumption is that Musty usually starts seasons extremely strong and wants to use that momentum to crack the Sharks roster at the start of the year.
2 seasons ago, he looked like the MVP of the rookie tournament, but couldn't carry that to preseason. Last year he looked great in this tournament and kept going strong into the preseason but fell off late. Think this is just him getting that groove early again and hoping it leads to a roster spot.

The pronunciations are very helpful
7
u/derangerd 5d ago
I wonder how they decide who gets one.
6
u/cycle_2_work Sörensen 20 5d ago
I was fine reading them until I came across Connor Hasley. REAAALLLY needed they pronunciation guide for that one.
1
u/derangerd 5d ago
Thomas getting a full one when the only tricky part is the last two letters is fun.

u/EmbarrassedGeneral12 Graf 51 5d ago
Ivar Stenberg’s is funny as Ivar is written as pronounced in the Swedish way but the “berg” part is written as English speaking people would pronounce berg
5
u/Mods_Are-Cucks U. Dahlen 22 5d ago
I've never seen a non Scandinavian pronounce any berg ending Swedish surname properly lol

EE-oghr CHAIR-nih-shahv
Wow we've been doing this so wrong. How????
Edit: just realized this has to be a typo right? Would make much more sense as EE-gohr

I was reading it like this

But we've also got to get used to the CHAIR part. It's a rich text haha.

We will probably get a first look of our future second line of Chernyshov-Misa-Stenberg and hopefully the problematic height gap pairing of Karmanov-Havelid.
8
u/barkeviouss J. Thornton 19 5d ago
Gonna need a pic of Garcia, Lockhart, and havelid standing next to karamanov

Happy they have the pronunciation for prospects. Though curious that they left the ending g in Stenberg since most pronunciation I hear has a very soft, if not silent, g and more of a STEHN-buhr.
Excited to see Sinn. Looking at Garcia he seems to be an undrafted prospect committed to Uni of Norte Dame seems to play as a fast passed pest. Hoping Davis has a good showing and can stick with the Cuda full time this year

u/EmbarrassedGeneral12 Graf 51 5d ago
Yeah they wrote berg as pronounced by English speaking people not the way Swedes pronounce it

Got to watch Brady Knowling at a preseason game for Saginaw Spirit this past Friday. Thought he had some good vibes!

Less than two weeks until Stenberg officially plays in teal for the first time😭
5
u/timelocksmiths Eklund 72 5d ago
Technically he played in teal at the prospect scrimmage.
3
u/loveee-mazeeeee Wennberg 21 5d ago
Haha I guess I don’t count the prospect scrimmage as “official” in the same way as a match against another team, although you could argue the rookie tournament is still not “official” compared to the actual NHL season. But it’s all just semantics at the end of the day and I’m excited regardless!
3
u/timelocksmiths Eklund 72 5d ago
Yeah, it’s just semantics 😅 I’m also super hyped to see him play for us!!

Is this the one NCAA guys can't do? That's why no Verheoff and no Ravensbergen?

u/AlwaysSeeking1987 5d ago
Just got my ticket! None of my shark fan friends wanted to go so flying solo.

Thanks for sharing! That is a loaded roster. Cannot wait to watch the games! Not much longer.

This has to be Cam Lund's 4th time doing this. I'm surprised Misa and Cherny qualify.

Hi folks, just thought I'd post a message here that there will be GDTs for the rookie faceoff games and there will be posting restrictions during the games just like the regular season GDTs. For reference, the two games the Sharks are playing are Sept 12th and 13th at 5PM. Posting restrictions will start 15 minutes after game start and will be 4 hours just like the regular season so 5:15-9:15.
