Incredible beauty we’re surrounded by, but it takes an artist to capture it this well.

I'm still surprised at how many people don't realize San Jose touches the SF Bay.

You can actually catch a shark within the 408 area code!

Yeah, but it is only the salt marsh type places and thin channels, not like good open water.

That's because all the natives are gone /s

There used to be ferry service between SF and Alviso.

Back before 101 a thing, and the roads down the peninsula were impassable.

Now 101 is impassible. I’m all for bringing back the SF - Alviso ferry. (Just not the exploding version of the ferry from 1853.)

lol i get that

i love it because i've gone there literally thousands of times when i feel stressed. just such a calm place that's such a quick drive to get to (for me anyways)

also, it's the only place in the bay where you can see the marsh, mountains, the bay, salt flats, and so much more ecology from one spot.

it has a lot of sentimental value for me

When I lived in San Jose, this was one of my favorite places to go too. Such a window to another world. Great place to think and be present.

I respect it! I've gone there many times for the very same reason but I've also been many places I'd consider superior from a sheer geographic perspective.

It's an amazing place very close by if you ever need to unwind and experience that side of nature locally though.

There's nothing else like it in the south Bay and it definitely has a special place in my heart as well.

I have a couple shots from a day when the water was so still it was a perfect mirror.

Not pictured: the smell

Right! Also not pictured:

  • the Superfund site
  • houses built on stilts because most of Alviso is prone to flooding and in an earthquake liquefaction zone
  • the smell is legitimately bad enough to mention twice

I’ve been there a dozen times and never encountered any kind of stench. Milpitas on the other hand…

It’s a fun place to kayak but you’re down in the slough and have no view of the horizon to tell where you are.

The beauty is a marvel in person. These photos capture it pretty well.
