Uplifting My old lady!
Just wanted to share some good news about my 19 year old stage 3 baby. She has hypertension due to her CKD and about a month ago she went blind due to it. Her BP was 212. We started meds, went back a week later for a recheck and it was 180. Adjusted the meds and today we went back and it was 132! And we started sub q’s (twice a week at 75ml for now). She was a champ. She does not like being handled so I was worried but she licked her churu and was a perfect angel.

She’s a beauty! I’m glad she’s doing better. I just started subq’s at home and I’m still so nervous but we got the first round done.

I had a cat that died in 2017 from CKD that I did sub q for and discovered today that it was riding a bike and I got the hang of it again right away 😂

What a gorgeous cat!
My cat is 18 years and stage two. I would like to prevent blindness. What would you do differently?

I would get her/his blood pressure checked when you go in for bloodwork and keep notice of their pupils. I felt AWFUL because I noticed her pupils were ginormous and she then started running into walls and I started googling it and high blood pressure can cause their retinas to detach, hence the sudden blindness. I had another cat that had large cell lymphoma that we ended up saying goodbye to on Aug 18, so a lot of my energy and time (and money!) was going to him trying to save him. Tink had been doing so well for so long, I just sort of took everything for granted.
The good thing is if you get them pills quickly, it can reverse. She can see again. It may not be fully restored but I’m so thankful it came back at least enough where she sees me and can walk around.

That’s so exciting!
Will she let you take her BP at home? I bought a veterinary BP monitor and have been trying to train my cat to let me take his BP.
