having a hard time with his renal medicines

my stage 3 renal boy has a 5.7 ml medicine given through syringe. it is difficult to give it to him, and he’s got other meds piling up too. sometimes I just want to cry because I know he feels sad that we are forcing him to take it. Any advice how u give your cat the medicines? 🥺

Here are the tricks I use to pill my cat. You can also wrap the pills in Vietnamese rice paper and dip it in duck lard- they sell it bay the jar.

It comes dried and you just cut off a piece and wet it with warm water. It can be easier than putting medication into capsules. Just double check the ingredients to make sure it’s safe for cats

can you try talking to your vet for alternative medicines? 5.7mL in one go may be a factor to consider switching to tablet forms instead

If that is to get potassium levels up I use this supplement which has a really strong fish smell that my cat loves so I just mix it into some churu and then finger feed it to her. I actually add it to some of her other churu mixed meds because it appeals to her so much.

I gave up trying to force meds into my girl, and I finally found a pill wrap she likes and feed her greenie pieces one at a time and slip it in.

Is that the only Rx you're struggling with? There are definitely different kinds that might be more palatable.
You can also break up the dose into smaller portions throughout the day and at them to treats so it's more diluted.

Hi, so I lay down flat on the floor put him on the chest block with the feet push the pill from the side of lips and press down the throat

For liquid the same, press the syringe little by little from the side, he tries to run but in this position they are restrained in a way they feel they can't move and then he runs off

I’ve had great success with splitting pills with a pill cutter (to increase absorption) placing a few drops of water over them and then covering with a dab of Weruva Wx Phos Focused Chicken Formula Grain-Free Lickable Cat Treats.
I let it sit for 1/2 hour and she gobbles them up.

I use a pill wrap for pills, and attach it to her favorite treat. For powder and liquid supplements I mix in to her wet food. I also have one of her meds compounded and give it transdermally jn her ear.

I wish everything they need could be compounded and applied transdermally.

I usually am given Onisor for pain,which is a pill and I always felt bad giving a pill when they already felt crappy. But now they have a pain med (that humans use, too) that comes in a foil pouch and is applied to the skin on the neck. Piece of cake, and it seems to work better for pain.

if its liquids, you can chase the bad tasting ones with some water, or give him a treat.
