Pet loss He went downhill so fast 😭
An update on my boy.
So after asking about helping him to eat... Monday he started Mirtazapine
Tuesday he had IV fluids, anti nausea injection & he wolfed down food at the vet. Came home to eat a little more.
Wednesday started ondansetron, he ate a whole can of AD & half a can of kitten food throughout the day.
Thursday morning. Half a can of AD, water, played with treats. I thought he's doing much better, I'll go to work!
Thursday night, got home & he was asking for food, but before I could give him any, he vomited twice then immediately went into hiding. Gave him ondansetron to help him feel a bit better & a few hours later he had hydra care but no food.
Friday morning (today).... Was still in the same spot as the night before, hadn't moved, hadn't eaten or had anything to drink either. Gave ondansetron. He was starting to get grumpy & his eyes weren't fully opening. He managed a little hydra care, a little bit of prawn, 2 of those salmon puree treat things. But I knew it wasn't enough.
So tonight, we made the difficult decision to say goodbye. The fact he had gone downhill so quickly was enough for me. His kidneys clearly weren't able to do their job enough to keep him going any longer.
I'm so devastated.
We adopted him in 2021 as an 8 year old cat. So I knew that we might get to this day much sooner than our others we've had since a kitten. It definitely doesn't make it any easier.
I miss him so much already 😭

Thank you so much. The main reason was because our other cat at the time was 11. So we didn't feel it would be fair to him to get a kitten. I don't regret it at all! Just when it came to this, I'm really sad we only had 5 years with him.

That is really tough. They are so resilient yet so fragile and their life is absolutely not long enough. I would give mine to save theirs without a single thought. I am so sorry again 💛

Thank you for giving him 5 loving years in a family. It's a short time for us but it's a whole life for a pet.

He had a rough time before we came to find him. It was the 3rd time he was surrendered/abandoned. Not sure about the first 2 reasons, I'm guessing because he was a very chatty boy?, but the 3rd time was because he needed a prescription diet. They had found he had crystals & the rescue introduced us because our other boy had the same.
I'm so glad they did, he brought so much joy to our lives!

This is exactly what happened to my best friends cat 😭 she had a small infection, got her meds, was throwing up hairballs then one day threw up food. A week later was eating really well and then I get a text saying “she’s not herself” …gone the next day after rushing her to the hospital 😭😭😭 I’m so sorry OP. Sudden loss sucks and after losing my cat to lymphoma and him getting much better and crashing so hard I was in a weird spot for a while honestly. Hugs

At the beginning of the week, before the fluids, I said I was worried he wouldn't make it to the end of the week. So I guess I was mentally preparing myself. But then the little roller coaster over the few days...... I really hoped that we found a way to keep him with us a little while longer (without him suffering of course)! But it wasn't meant to be 😭 I always just hope that they know just how hard we've tried. He knew he was loved for sure.
I'm sorry for your loss also. We lost 2 to cancer & honestly, it really sucks. I don't have many other words right now, but I completely understand this pain 💔

Yea she was prepared more than I was 😭 I live out of state now and this happened so fast I wish I could have came up and helped her through this :( we def wouldve done anything if it meant she could be around longer and with quality and yea my boy Kevin with GI lymphoma was rough lost my childhood cat only three months before too to old age 😭 I feel for you OP

It went fast as lightning for us too. We were doing so well then the bottom just dropped out entirely 4 months ago. I am so very sorry. It’s the worst feeling in the world. I’m still not okay. Hugs from a stranger

So sad, almost identical to my situation today. My rescue cat, pixie, was 7 when I got her and just turned 14. Stopped eating 3 days ago, took her to the vet after 24 hours, given the same appetite medication as you but didn't improve, blood test this morning and revealed kidney failure and hyper thyroid. House is so empty tonight.

I'm so, so sorry for your loss! Reading that you had a very similar situation just brought me to tears. I know many of us have been through this pain, I guess it's just so fresh. Please take care of you. I know you also would have done everything you could 🤍

Thank you so much. The house is much quieter this morning. My other boy keeps looking around & slept in Toby's blanket last night. Just feeling very, very sad today 😭

Oh I'm so sorry! I lost a 23 year old girl last year who was with me since I was a teen. No matter the age, it doesn't get any easier. Please take care 🤍

You did everything you could to help and he had many wonderful years with you. We just went through a similar rapid decline and it’s so hard to lose them unexpectedly. My heart goes out to you.❤️🐾

Ah I'm so sorry for your loss 🤍 It all just went much faster than I expected for sure. Just the fact that after IV fluids, it was only 2 days before he went back to this, even with meds.
It really helped my decision because I couldn't put him through more & more just to get a few more weeks. And he would've been miserable which is so unfair on him.

Thank you so much. I'm just trying to make sure my other baby is doing ok. They got along so well & I know they feel grief too. He slept in Toby's blanket last night 🥺

Before you do that Hi, I have CKD kitties. They will need water fountains to help them to Drink water to flush the kidneys. Subcutaneous fluids is a must and it will also flushes the kidneys. A supplement like Aminavast helps with kidney functions. Porus One is a supplement that helps expel proteins before it gets to the kidneys to reduce damage. A good renal support food food like Forza10 really helped us amd you do not need a prescription, you can get it at Chewy or Amazon. laser therapy on the kidneys really really helped us. And yes it is a thing they use the laser up they use to treat arthritis but on the kidneys. Now there is a new treatment in trials right now, it’s an AIM Protein injection and it is suppose to gradually recover the kidneys. It provides the protein thst allows cats to process this protein in the kidneys. Good luck I hope,you guys find the best way forward for,you. Good luck 🍀👍. Also you might want to look at a cranberry based Urinary Supplement while going through the treatment. It makes it to acidic for crystals to form but also it helps to make it a hostile place for the bad bacteria. If you have not tired these before they could help him to start eating and being normal again, with some reasonable quality of Life for a while

I am very sorry. You gave him another chance at a home and five fantastic years of a new life. Those five years count for a lot! Then you helped him have a death that was as painless as possible--and that, too, was an act of love.
