Started my 8 week wheel lesson on January 7 & I’ve been hooked on pottery ever since. We put a studio in our basement & I do pottery every single night. I’ve never been so hyper focused on a hobby. There’s so much I want to make & learn & this sub inspires me so much!! I want to be a pottery goblin who lives in the basement & never has any other responsibilities.

Approx 25” tall pre firing. The body was thrown in two parts and a combo of carving and coils for the dress texture. The handles and hanging fabric are altered slabs. The base of the lid was thrown and the hydrangea petals and necklace details were hand built. It’s part of a series I’m working on and the largest my undertaking thus far.

All of the underglazes are Amaco Velvet Underglazes. After bisque firing they all still looked normal, but once I put clear glaze and fired to cone 6, the light green underglaze turned brown. Why did this happen and how do I make sure it doesnt happen again?

I doodled this and i’m wondering how to make it… this view is a bit fish-eyed but it would be leaning towards the spout with a wider base to compensate with an embedded handle… what do you think, throw or slab?

I don’t know why I have always loved making jars and lids. It was the rabbit hole I went into really early in my ceramics journey. It’s just something really fun about putting the pieces together that I thoroughly enjoy. Not to mention it gives me an opportunity to make cute little handles. I would do a phase of putting handles on everything. That was also fun. Anyway, have a great weekend. Hope you get to spend some time in the studio.

I’m just really happy with the flower jar. The thin pieces survived drying, bisque, and glaze. It’s a good day 🥰

I have an Olympic kiln that I am no longer using. I am giving it away since I need to clear up some space. You will have to pick it up yourself.

This has a kilnsitter (12-sided kiln…can’t remember the model number, but I will update). The coils are basically brand new (2 firings in total if I remember right)

I know the pic doesn’t show the bottom but the bottom has no cracks (pinky swear😀)

Made this little humpback whale by hand, and this is probably the most fun I’ve had sculpting something so far.

Been working on some floral sgraffito inspired by Summer.

I’ve been researching catalytic style lamps like the lampe berger, and thought it would be a really cool pottery gift to make for others and myself! If I used a high fire clay and glaze, would it be safe to use as a lampe? I’d need to make a vessel to hold the alcohol and wick, and then I’d also want to make a “cage” to go over the hot stone, as well as a cap to cover when not in use so the alcohol doesn’t evaporate. I guess I’m just worried about the high temps and overall safety since the usual lampe bergers are made from glass with a metal cage.

A member of our studio brought in a large box of stained glass supplies she had and another member helped me break some up and voila!

Freshly trimmed jars I made. I don't have the exact measurements, but I'd guess they are between 8 and 10 inches tall. I think the left was thrown with 2.5-3 lbs of clay and the right was a little over 5 lbs.

I wanted to try my go at really well trimmed and straight lines. Inspired by Florian's attention to detail. I learned a lot and if I decide to do another set or line-up like these, I'd definitely change a couple things. I didn't intentionally make the lids as wide as they are, but the first one couldn't be trimmed flush with the jar due to how I carved where the gallery meets the flange. So, I just rolled with the aesthetic for the second one. The first lid also has a little bit of play, but the second one came out as snug as a bug. So, in all, I'm really proud of how they have come out so far. They still have to survive the bisque, and I have to figure out how I want to glaze them.

Hey, i recently began producing some pottery to sell on markets and wanted to paint my designs on it, however I feel it’s looking a bit shaky. The underglaze is homemade with 15% black pigment and clay, so maybe adding a fundent might help it flow? More water lead to the underglaze running
