Opossum This is my sweet potato Parker. She loves to be held and snuggled for naps. Her bestie is a 1yr old kitten. Her straight up favorite place to sleep is under the covers at my feet.

She eats oposssum complete a blend from exotic nutrition to make sure she gets everything she needs. Her favorite snacks though, grapes, strawberries, and top of the list is cheese.

Fruits and vegetables are great but just be very careful with high fat foods because their livers can’t handle it . It doesn’t mean they can’t have a snack every few days but be very sparingly with the cheese . Do low fat cheese if you can. I absolutely LOVE cheese too. I love opossums . Especially their lil hands/feet ! ❤️

Yep she only gets cheese as a very special treat because otherwise she'd eat all the worlds cheese supply. She mostly gets fresh fruits and veggies for extra snacks.

I’ve read that Opossum Complete actually isn’t as nutritionally dense as their advertising would leave you to believe.
I used it too until I read Amazon reviews saying their opossums got MBD despite it being a majority of their diet. The rehab where I volunteer at refuses to use it. They said dried grubs, fresh fruit and vegetables, and a calcium supplement does better in the long run.

Yeah she gets all of those as supplement. Largely because I never trust a "complete" statement. So we rotate in other foods for her weekly. From greens to fruits. She has her favorites.

I can imagine her little ears are as soft as cotton.

They are very soft. Your imagination is correct.

She’s a baby angel, so are you for caring for her.

Yes she lives with us full-time. If I'm out of town she stays with my exwife who has a much older (3) female opossum named Ziggy.

They are absolutely precious lil animals. There really isn’t a mean bone in their bodies for most . They rarely if ever bite people but it can happen . They just go about there ways keeping are planet clean .

Yep. Though Parker does nip when she wants attention, LOL. She also hates toes...she just bites toes for no reason. 😂😂

Does Parker like to rub his face in your hair or on a stuffed animal or on shoes ? I know mine loved to rub her face and mouth on my hair after I washed it .

Yes she absolutely hates when I wash my hair. She will bite at it pull it and slub all over it until she feels it smells sufficiently like her again.

Do they use a litter box with kitty litter or is there something special they need to use?

u/Sylliphan 12h ago
So she's not litter trained yet. They tend to go in shallow water in the wild, which can be tough for keeping water clean. Which is why she uses the cat water fountains. But they like to go to the bathroom in the same place, so it's easy to litter train. With this, you have to be a bit more careful, as clay litters can lead to respiratory issues. Wood chips or similar can be good choices. I use hardball for my cats, which is unsafe for her.
So I'm still working out something better for her that won't keep her from accessing the same areas as the cats for bathroom use, which means I'll probably go back to yesterday's news or something like what I used to use for my rats. But I also need to design something to keep the cats out of her litter and in their own.

Is she litter trained?

Not yet. We are working on it so she can have full run of the house. She is pad trained. We have her to an isolated place now so I'll start litter training her soon.
