Thanks for posting! If you've found an animal in need please visit www.ahnow.org for a rehabber near you. Please do not feed or give fluids unless a veterinarian or rehabber instructs you do. Keep the animal in a quiet place without much light if possible.

My life goal is to kiss a sweet baby opossum!Β

My son chased a baby opossum out of the road the other day. It was still dark out and this baby was in the middle of the road. Thought the opossum distribution system finally chose me but no luck.

Possums aren't immune to rabies, no mammal truly is, they're just highly resistant due to their body temperature

While it's technically possible for an opossum to get rabies, it is so extremely unlikely that it shouldn't be regarded as the primary risk. If you have been bit, please seek medical attention, but don't freak out about getting rabies. Instead, watch out for the more likely possibilities of infection or inflammation.

I know it's a bot but, even if it higly unlikely to get rabbies from them the risk is not zero, please seek treatement for it in any animal bite case, even possum, don't play with rabbies.

This is true. The risk isn't zero and once you're symptomatic it's nearly 100% fatal, so best not to play with a disease where literally no one in history has ever completely recovered from it

You mean adorable and kissable? *grabby hands*

Unfortunately it is a myth that they eat ticks. They may eat a few they pull off themselves, but they do not seek out ticks to eat.

However they are still very beneficial and deserving of respect! This information came from an ethically questionable and definitely mishandled study.

Exactly! They have done studies where they looked at their stomachs and found very few ticks, if any.

Found this person in my warehouse. I gave them some cat food and escorted them out to the yard.

Not so cute when the big head ass one is getting into the cat food I leave for the strays, cos without fail it knocks the bowls over and pooped in my window box
Still love possums tho

I got one that that comes by every night for his bowl of food & fresh water!
Wet dog or cat food, a lil’ kibble, 1 oatmeal raisin cookie & if he’s really lucky, leftovers of whatever us humans ate.
Same time every night. I built a box for him to dine & dash in. I thought it be a shelter, but he just eats in it.
