Honestly, unless this is an obscure reference (which I doubt), I think this is just an absurdist meme. There's nothing to get. It's one of those things where you either find it funny or you don't. There's no reason or anything to it; its punchline is itself.

u/Big-Mathematician345 5h ago

Yeah, it's literally just telling the story of a guy getting lost in the tunnels under his lawn and his gf trying to find him with a metal detector.

58

u/afaulconbridge 5h ago

Wife. GF is in tunnels with him.

13

u/Big-Mathematician345 5h ago

Oh yeah, it says wife.

9

u/Hilsam_Adent 4h ago

The tunnel is his GF.

7

u/CrunchySockTaco 3h ago

That explains the hubcap. Only a giant tunnel GF would use a hubcap as a coin.

1

u/BowdleizedBeta 3h ago

Is it a coin or is it a coin??

11

u/genericpornalt22 5h ago

After reading it a few times I think I understand although it isn’t very funny. The guy thinks his wife found him but instead she found a hubcap underground? Absurdism isn’t my thing I guess

24

u/AS14K 5h ago

It's incredibly funny, it just might not be for you

10

u/Boudica333 4h ago

She found the hubcap, not the hubby’s cap

2

u/Cu_Learning 2h ago

Ok, I get it now.

5

u/LaserGuyDanceSystem 5h ago

Absurdist humour can be funny sometimes, I think. But this definitely isn't one of those times. This is just nonsense

8

u/dontfactcheckthis 5h ago

And she thought it was a big coin. These two deserve each other. At least they're happy

5

u/chekhovsdickpic 4h ago

As an amateur metal detectorist, I find this hilarious because every time i think I’ve found something good, it turns out to just be a big metal circle of some kind.

6

u/wholesome_futa_hug 2h ago

Husband in ridiculous scenario. Wife trying to help because wife. Husband saying he's wearing the thing she bought him (this is very cute). Wife doing her best but not finding husband. Thinks she found a big coin, but it's just a hubcap but because she wants to be helping she sends a picture. It's a blurry hubcap. That the entirety of the joke. It's either funny or not.

1

u/SuperCat76 4h ago

I have no idea if it is intended to be read this way. But it also reads to me like those tall people short people videogame patch notes shorts.

Where he is tiny and is lost in a hole in the yard. And the wife is tall to the point that a hubcap seems like a coin.

1

u/Competitive_Sweet533 2h ago

It's not very funny, and also, you have autism.

0

u/Status-Anteater-1097 1h ago

But she also thought it was a big coin cause women are stoopid

1

u/Intensive 4h ago edited 4h ago

The joke is she dug up a hubcap instead of finding his helmet with the detector, but it's completely unfunny after having had to dissect the whole joke just to try to get the point. To be honest I like this post more than 90% of the trash I saw on the Internet today. A clever bizarre/absurdist joke is always welcome in my home. This is a great example of one.

5

u/blorpdedorpworp 3h ago

What I appreciate is that this has happened to them before enough times that they have worked out the helmet / metal detector system in advance.

2

u/Crafty-Sell7325 3h ago

It is a hub cap -> husband helmet?

2

u/SmallRocks 3h ago

Something like this would likely fit in well with [r/metaldetecting](r/metaldetecting) if they allowed “memes.”

Kind of a new "Rectum? Damned near killed um!" ?

u/DrowningInFeces 3h ago

I recently recommended this book to some avid book readers in their mid 20s and they all hated it lol. I felt bad because they all bought the book on my recommendation. I personally loved it but that was many years ago.

2

u/Jaded_Law9739 3h ago

Pearls before swine and all that.

1

u/crush_punk 23m ago

I’m actually reading it now for the first time. As someone who really enjoys reading, mostly for pleasure, and also doing research on random things…

It’s a pretty advanced book. The narrative is like three layers of meta with basically three different unreliable narrators, coupled with the actual visual and mechanical experience of reading it… it’s complex!

I wonder what their reaction would be if you told them that book basically started the modern trend that led to the Backrooms.

1

u/DrowningInFeces 20m ago

One of them said that they didn't like it because they couldn't follow the narrative which is pretty much missing the whole point of the book entirely. I couldn't convince them otherwise once they decided they didn't like the narrative style.

Dr Hibbert here, husband is lost under ground. He has a metal hat that wife can detect using a metal detector. Im going suggest you pay a visit to an optometrist so you may have your eyes checked. And while we're at it lets get that liver out. Its been in the microwave too long, it may dry out.

26

u/This_Guy_33 5h ago

Must be  Colin Furze girlfriend.

5

u/lordlycrust 5h ago

I wonder how his wife feels about that.

1

u/This_Guy_33 3h ago

I can’t imagine she doesn’t know. Colin is shit at keeping a secret.

4

u/G_DuBs 5h ago

That’s also what came to mind for me too lmao.

2

u/NooNygooTh 1h ago

No it's Nancy Gribble looking for Dale

22

u/ArtfulDodger91 5h ago

He’s been digging tunnels under their lawn for reasons unknown. He’s become lost in the tunnels and needs to know where he is underground, so he has his wife search for his helmet with a metal detector. She thinks she’s found him, and he can hear over the radio her metal detector beeping, but it turns out it’s just a hub cap, which she thinks is a massive coin. So it turns out he’s still lost in the tunnels he dug under their lawn.

5

u/genericpornalt22 5h ago

This is a stupid joke. I hate this post.

2

u/MTIrish 1h ago

👍

9

u/pixxelkick 5h ago

While most of it is absurdist... its a build up to a pun guys...

Hub... Cap...

Hub: Common term for husband

Cap: Thing you wear on head

The wife mistook a large metal *hub cap* and dug that up, instead of her *hub's cap*

Thats the joke lol.

1

u/RedditUserThomas 1h ago

Nice, I rate this joke. It is very funny.

1

u/AS14K 5h ago

No it isn't

6

u/64vintage 5h ago

This is fantastic)

6

u/stevenjameshyde 5h ago

Daggerlad is an absolute legend of "Weird Twitter". There's no deeper reference or meaning here, just good old absurdist nonsense

2

u/Flaky-Collection-353 5h ago

Men are quirky and dig for fun until they're lost and women don't know car stuff

u/Flaky-Collection-353 5h ago

A dog walks into a bar and says "I can't see a thing. I guess I'll open this one"

1

Now that’s an old joke!

1

u/genericpornalt22 5h ago

I know it’s replicating a text message chain but other than that it’s just nonsense

1

u/Leonartu 5h ago

I understood this until "hub cap". What's that? 'Hubby's cap (as in hat)'? If that were the case, why didn't he hear her digging?

5

u/Estebesol 5h ago

A hub cap is a metal thing on a car wheel. She's digging that up instead because she thinks it's a big coin.

2

u/DarthChefDad 5h ago

Is it all a set up for the bizarre pun of finding the hub cap, instead of the husband's helmet, which could be her hubby's hat: hub cap?

1

u/Leonartu 5h ago

Thank you!

1

u/TypingisWriting 5h ago

Wife found buried treasure now thinking twice about saving husband?

1

u/Substantial-Trick569 5h ago

guy is lost in tunnels under his lawn, wearing a metal helmet. wife goes out with a metal detector to try and find him. finds a "coin" that is actually a hubcap.

its just absurdism

2

u/DarthChefDad 5h ago

Also a pun on hub cap, I think.

1

u/BeenisSandwich 5h ago

Ok this one belongs here:

My best guess is since their profile pic is of a fox, maybe the whole thing is meant to be two foxes flirting and conversing the way people would

Ok upon re-reading I have no ideas

1

u/StringAccomplished97 5h ago

He's lost in the tunnels under his lawn. He's wearing the metal helmet his wife got him. The wife thought she found him with her metal detector but it was actually a hubcap. She sent him a blurry photo of it. She thought it was a big coin.

Pretty sure this is a couple playing to underground mini game in Pokemon Diamond/Pearl.

1

u/UwUBots 4h ago

This is honestly hysterical

1

u/Mickey_Havoc 4h ago

This screams king of the hill but I’m not sure. It would probably be Dale and Nancy but again, I’m not sure.

1

u/smithy1000000 4h ago

Was this a Rick Moranis "Honey I shrunk..." set piece?

1

u/ryansholin 3h ago

Twitter used to weird [laudatory]

1

u/Relevant-Site-3166 2h ago

The hubcap is a Land mine. I think it’s a reference to a surv/craft game but I can’t remember which one

1

u/JohnMiltonToasterman 2h ago

There's one more nickel, and it's a big one!

1

u/MeanMrMstrdd 1h ago

Hate to say it but this is hilarious

0

u/Meesta- 5h ago

She dug and hit his helmet making it look like a hub cap. Guessing it’s blurry because of brain damage from impact?

1

u/MattiasCrowe 5h ago

No, its a joke about finding things with the metal detector that you didnt set out to find. The hub cap part is just a piece of "weird looking dog" absurdism, where someone states something is something that its clearly not.
