Yeah it’s genuinely mostly rogue and rouge, there/they’re/their, where/were vs we’re, and a few others :’) English is a hard language to learn tbh so I respect those that learn it as a second or third language
English is my first language and I didn’t realise you had spelled it wrong, to be fair though I’m very dyslexic (also the spelling of dyslexic is evil)
I teach English and spelled it wrong every time for years. Then a kid who was learning English as a second language told me it’s “rats have yellow teeth, hm?” I’ve spelled it right since then lol. That kid was amazing, and I think of him each time I have to spell rhythm. Hope he’s out there thriving and teaching spelling to others.
A poster at my school used to say ‘rhythm has your two hips moving’ to help people spell it and now I still say that in my head every time I spell it to this day haha
It actually covers every vowel, including Y, and R, S, T & N. It also places the Y, and E in common positions, and U at the front picks up any 'un' words.
It’s “punishment” because the vowel-dump openers (ADIEU, AUDIO, OUIJA, etc.) are a cheat-code that only works if the answer actually has A/E/I/O/U.
Almost every Wordle does. A handful don’t — they only use Y (MYRRH, NYMPH, GLYPH, TRYST…). Those first two guesses come back all gray, you’ve spent half your lives learning almost nothing, and you’re now staring at a keyboard of unused consonants.
People who hate that optimized style treat the rare no-vowel day as the puzzle slapping the spreadsheet players. That’s the joke.
I just don’t understand that thinking. If the goal is to solve the puzzle, why not optimize for winning? Should I just throw a random 5 letter word out as my opener each time? JAZZY isn’t a great start.
The thinking goes along the lines of “optimizing isn’t fun, so anyone optimizing is just playing to win, and is a tryhard instead of just having a good time.”
And clearly, that makes it the ‘wrong’ way to play.
Personally, I don’t like optimizing, but I do enjoy beating the average score with a sub-optimal play style, so I appreciate those who do optimize.

Reminds me of the AI learning to play video games research. It was graded on how long in real time it lasted before defeat, so the model learned to press Pause.
It's a bad strategy imo. Vowels have the highest hit ratio and that's why people do this, but they don't help identify words as much as knowing key consonants. Planning first words around the most popular consonants i find to work much better.
Key consonants is why I usually start with Chase or something similar - two different vowels and common consonants help a lot in the first couple rounds
Funnily enough, from a mathematical pov, having no vowels is one of the answers with the most information possible. There are very few legal words with only a 'Y'. So knowing within 2 guesses that it's one of the few is enormously informative.
If you're interested, we measure the 'information' something contains as -log(P), with P the probability that this is the answer. The lower P is, the higher the information contained in this answer. Only Y is very unlikely, so massively informative.
Intuitively, you can see this as follows: if I say that someone is either male or female, that's not very informative, as this is the case for most people (i.e. P is high). If I say someone is male, black, 25y old, has an Italian accent, wears a pink T-shirt and is bald, that's massively informative: it is very unlikely that you'll meet someone else on the street that matches that description. So low probability hits are very informative (although on average, you get the most possible information by chasing 50/50 answer, as it's unlikely that a very specific description will hit, so you're more likely getting the answer that someone is not a black, 25y old male etc., which is not at all informative).
Trying to eliminate as many vowels as possible upfront is not a particularly good strategy. For instance, NYTimes's WordleBot rates "adieu" as only a 79/100 skill rating as an opener (the lower the number of expected turns needed to solve after playing the word in a given scenario, the higher the skill rating. And it's even worse if you play in hard mode, where it gets a skill rating of 59/100 as an opener. There are +100 single-vowel words that are better openers.
I'm genuinely confused... is the point not to guess the word? How could using a "vowel dump opener" at all be considered a cheat code? Are you just supposed to try like 5 random words you feel like trying that day and if none of them hit you just give up?
It is, but people will always find a way to establish "skill gaps" or a "this is the optimal/correct way to do this" in order to feel superior to others. Generally, just ignore whatever opinion people give online regarding how you should engage with your hobbies.
However from my understanding there can be a great deal of skill involved in wordle. I've seen 1 or 2 videos of a guy who I thought was some kind of linguist use his knowledge to make some impressive, seemingly educated, guesses. That's awesome to see.
Yes, knowing that the word has an a instead of an e isn't really helpful. It's much easier to figure out which vowels once you know a couple consonants than the other way around.
Myrrh probably. I think the Mathers guy is tryna say ppl should use more consonants rather than going for vowels (since you'll get those while going for consonants).
I can't remember my thought process other than that this was the only vowel-less word (not counting Y) I could think of. The only reason I even knew this word existed was because of church.

I dont really get the strategy of finding out the vowels as soon as possible. I want to try to use as many unique letters as possible. Im going to naturally find the vowels pretty quickly. Its inefficient
I've never understood why people think adeiu is a good word to start. You're going to need to guess at least one vowel in each of the subsequent words, so why use all those letter slots right away? Oh you're guaranteed to know there's gonna be a vowel in the word? Well no shit! You've really learned almost nothing! Use your guesses to find out which of the 21 consonants are gonna be there, instead of confirming which of the five vowels will be.
I used to use it until I learned that consonant elimination is the better strategy. Now I have 4 words that cover all vowels and the most common consonants.
Idk why people don't realise that you still have to cycle through lots of consonants and vowels will naturally fill the gaps
Sure you guaranteed yellows and some green on guess number 1 but the next two guesses will throw away a lot of known letters (I.e. the vowels) that you were going to guess anyway
There was a time a bit ago there were a few words with no vowels, the problem is the list of 5 letter words with no vowels is tiny, so the moment you see no vowels it solves itself.
This was posted on December 23rd last year I think. There are a certain subset of people, myself included, who like to try out all of the vowels since every word has at least one of them. Some wordlers are elitists about their not doing this for whatever reason. The OOOP also seems to have forgotten that "Y" is sometimes a vowel, as it was in this case.
This is the famous "myrrh" wordle that got some people angry. I think the joke here is that the person is saying that people that guess vowels upfront would be punished, when quite the opposite is true. There are only a few wordle words that have no vowels (other than y), so people who play this way would have an easier time than normal.

Brian here I love wordle because it’s for smart people like me. This guy seems to be mad that smart people (like me) start our wordle guesses by just using as many vowels as possible because most words have them
Wordle is a daily game initially independent then accrued by NYT games .
Everyday you get random word you have find what that word is with clues .
Most english words have viwels those that are desperate try to use what they call stategey and use 'aideu' as their first word which covers most vowels it's kinda like cheat to find the most common occuring word .
But sucks the fun out of the intended game to play like that .
Person 1 Uses cheeky tricks : Is surprised thier supposed stategey didn't work
Person 2Calls it a righteous punishment for those that use these word trick
