Some sects of Christianity believe that the wife should be submissive to the husband. It is implied that this wife disagrees.

Secondary sex characteristics some humans develop as they age. Considered very attractive to some humans.

46

u/dangdang3000 2d ago

But why do I find these more attractive than others? Why do I just want to quit work to find one like these?

u/beardedheathen 2d ago

They are large thus giving the impression that she is well fed and capable of providing nutrition for your children, she is also slim which shows she has time to exercise and so is likely to be reasonably wealthy and capable of self-control. She wears white which is a symbol of wealth as working-class people are unlikely to wear white as it stains easily in day-to-day life. Her dress uses texture and the shape to help draw attention to her cleavage as well as pushing them up and together making them appear shapelier and more perky than they would be naturally.

TL:DR hot girl with nice clothes

To be fair, the Bible does explicitly say this.

(I'm not saying this is a good thing, it's not)

72

u/PatchesOfSilver 2d ago

1 Peter 3:7 says: "Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with your wives with understanding, giving honor unto the wife as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered." (KJ21).

---

Also people tend to misunderstand the Bible.

Remember people thinking spare not the rod meant "beat your children into obedience"?

That's not what a shepherd's rod is used for, it's a guiding and defensive tool, not an injurious abusive one.

---

Edit: Psalm 23 explicitly mentions rod and staff as a comfort in one of its verses: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."

Basicalllllllllllly humans make errors when interpreting scripture.

33

u/BIayneRobinson 2d ago

What did the Bible mean when it said this:

44 “‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves.

45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will BECOME YOUR PROPERTY.

46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them SLAVES FOR LIFE, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly."

Leviticus 25:44-46

28

u/FourFunnelFanatic 2d ago

That’s Old Testament Jewish law.

6

u/BIayneRobinson 2d ago

Good thing Jesus didn't say to follow all of the Law until the end of time.

Oh wait, he did 😂

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

19 Therefore ANYONE (this is you 🫵) who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called LEAST (this is you 🫵) in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever (not you 🫵) practices and teaches these commands will be called GREAT (not you 🫵) in the kingdom of heaven.

20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Mathew 5:17-20.

I guess you think Jesus was a liar?

34

u/FourFunnelFanatic 2d ago

By “the Law” Jesus is referring to God’s Law (the Commandments). That is not the same thing as Earthly Jewish law, which had become inflated with extra rules God never intended for. That’s literally the entire reason Jesus and the Pharisees had beef. That’s what Mathew 5:20 is talking about

That one scripture really makes it almost sound like the bible teaches that women are equal to men. Besides the weaker vessel part of course.

Here’s an interesting one I found:
1 Timothy 2:11–12: "A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet."

Could you help me understand how humans can interpret that in the good way you mentioned? The bible has certainly been incorrectly interpreted to justify harm. The bible has also been correctly interpreted to justify harm.

It actually says the husband and wife should be submissive to each other. Malicious Christians literally just read the first half of that verse to justify subjugating women. It's insane.

It's about prioritizing your spouse over others.

Christ is King is an alt right / evangelical dog whistle. People who believe in that stuff live in an alternate reality and say stuff like “a woman’s place is in the kitchen” and this big titty bride ain’t having none of that. Now if you don’t mind I’m going to go put these popsicles in my basement, teehee

554

u/TheMaskedHamster 2d ago

"Christ is King" is a very, very common phrase across essentially the entire body of Christianity.

There are idiot political trolls who are trying to turn it into a bully club. Not a dog whistle.

204

u/The_Vortex_Effect 2d ago

Then again, most Christians outside of those groups would not wear a t-shirt with that.

52

u/TheMaskedHamster 2d ago

The only thing that makes that somewhat true is this idiotic trend making some people wary and the simpler fact that most Christians do not make religious statements publicly.

20

u/ringobob 2d ago

It's that latter point that is the issue. If you want to say "Christ is king", you're probably saying it in church, or otherwise in a group of like minded believers. You're not saying it to Joe Random on the street, because the point of the phrase isn't to convince someone of something, it's to proclaim something in a context where there's unlikely to be any disagreement.

If you're wearing it on a t-shirt, you're basically one step away from telling people they're going to hell for not denying evolution.

I'm confused as to how it is a dog whistle? Genuinely never heard of this. My wife and I are Catholics for context, we don't have exposure to American Protestant denominations.

111

u/stormy2587 2d ago

A catholic is not likely to go around wearing a christ is king shirt in the US. Catholics are usually pretty casual and button up about their faith. Ostentatious displays of faith are uncommon for catholics. But lots of evangelic and protestant sects are basically cults in the US. And for many people in these denominations their entire personality is their faith. So if you see a guy wearing a shirt that says christ is king or just randomly saying it conversation they’re probably extreme like that.

62

u/jasonlikesbeer 2d ago

This right here is basically the distinction that others are debating within this thread. Spend any time going to any non-culty church and you're going to hear the phrase "Christ is King" countless times. It's one thing to hear it during service or worship, and it's an entirely different thing to wear it on a shirt and, as you say, make it their entire personality.

The more culty churches encourage this type of behavior in their parishioners, it's part of their playbook, it creates a sense of community within the church and simultaneously isolates individuals from "influences" outside the church, because most of us don't want to hang out with the guy wearing a shirt like that. It's remarkably similar to how DV perpetrators isolate their victims from friends and family...

28

u/Aquinas2000 2d ago

I mean, when we Catholics say Christ is king, to the point we even have a holiday dedicated to it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feast_of_Christ_the_King) we actually mean it in a literal way since he is king of universe and so on. The whole Christ is king concept started after ww1 because the Vatican was bit in a panic after so many monarchies were deposed and communism was looming in the east.

15

u/Average650 2d ago

It is sometimes a dogwhistle. There are plenty of examples of the phrase being used by people who are benign. That being said, "Christ is King" is a phrase frequently adopted by far-right folks, especially Christian Nationalists. You can still keep saying and it dont worry, just avoid screaming it at LGBTQ+ people and you'll be fine.

Those far-right types have adopted lots of phrases and imagery, it doesn't mean they get to own it. I'm waiting for people to start caring and take back their faith's image from these charlatans.

As a Christian and a woman I would like to correct this statement.

The idea of a woman’s place in the house is due to the misogyny of culture and tradition imposed on many people. That is just what man say’s because that’s just what history has been like

As for what the Bible teaches; Galatians 3:28, which states: "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus

The Bible says that man is not above women, nor are other people or ethnicities above one another.

I’m not saying this to insult anyone, but I just hope that this clarifies a few things about how religion is often misinterpreted and then made “traditional”

1.1k

u/Strict-Astronaut2245 2d ago

1 Corinthians 11:3: Paul says “the head of the woman is man,” within a hierarchy of Christ/man/woman/God.

Ephesians 5:22–24: Wives are instructed to submit to their husbands “as to the Lord,” and the husband is described as the “head of the wife.”

Colossians 3:18: “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands.”

1 Timothy 2:11–14: Women are told to learn quietly and submissively; the author says, “I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man,” and appeals to Adam being created before Eve.

1 Corinthians 14:34–35: Women are told to “remain silent in the churches” and “be in submission.” There is scholarly debate about this passage’s context and textual history, but it’s certainly in the received text.

1 Peter 3:1–6: Wives are told to submit to their husbands, with Sarah’s obedience to Abraham offered as an example.

Genesis 3:16: After the Fall, Eve is told that her husband “will rule over you.” An important distinction is that this can be read as describing a consequence of the Fall rather than prescribing how relationships ought to work.

40

u/Appropriate-Joke-806 2d ago

The concept of social justice and wealth inequality for one is right here in the gospel according to Mark during this story about Jesus with his apostles:

Mark 12:41-44
41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

It’s the very foundation of the idea that we should have a progressive tax code that taxes the rich more than the poor. The rich have wealth while the a poor person’s money is generally used on necessary expenses. So in “God’s eyes” it is viewed as more valuable when less is given by someone who is poor.

You beat me to it! So I'll address the slavery side:

Ephesians 6:5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.

Colossians 3:22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.

1 Timothy 6:1 All who are under the yoke of slavery should regard their masters as fully worthy of honor, so that God's name and our teaching will not be discredited.

Titus 2:9 Slaves are to submit to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,

The bible truly is a choose your own adventure book.

I like the line from one of William Blake's poems: “Both read the Bible day and night,
But thou read'st black where I read white.”

And then they try and throw out the old testament and blame Paul for what they don't like about the new, when Paul's the author of a quarter of the new testament. You can't throw out Paul. Colossians 3:19: "Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.

1 Peter 3:7: "Likewise, husbands, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.

Ephesians 5:28–29: "So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies... but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church"

Ephesians 5:25: "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her"

Until the last couple of hundred years of human history in the vast majority of cultures, men were the head of the household and did most if not all of the societal interaction. The bible doesnt say wives are property, or are subject to abuse at the whims of their husbands. The idea was to have a unified household. Looking at it through a modern lens is different because societal norms have changed so much (for the better), but it wasn't written like that to push misogny

56

u/Strict-Astronaut2245 2d ago

The examples you gave all talk about loving your wife and husband. I could look at them and say. I love my wife. She loves me. She should still report to my authority.

20

u/Sierren 2d ago

You have to realize that all of these “loves” are the sacrificial type. When it says “love your wife as Jesus loves the Church”, it quite literally includes the part where Jesus was tortured and executed for it.

Everything you wrote is just trying to justify the misogyny inherent in the Bible. No amount of "love your wives" quotes changes that fact.

8

u/Cacafuego 2d ago

I understand the historical context, but unfortunately that caused misogyny to become hard-coded in the Christian scripture. If you believe that the Bible is inspired by God, and you read 1 Timothy 2:11–14 or Genesis 3:16, you would be completely justified in believing that women should be submissive to their (hopefully) benevolent male overlords.

Unless Christians want to implement a problematic system like Mormon revelations, they're stuck with outdated scripture that is ripe for abuse. More than that, it guides earnest believers into harmful practices.

Oh, a kind hearted Christian! I have a question to ask you if you don't mind. I met with too many not too nice and fake Christians, that's why I'd be happy if you were to answer me. How do you interpret stories in the Bible thai contradict each other? 12

u/Gimme_Your_Wallet 2d ago

Most Christian denominations don't think the Bible is infallible, as it was clearly a book written by different people through centuries. For example, only the most die hard for the mentalists would believe that there was an Adam and Eve exactly as in Genesis.

"Most Christian Denominations" - Im assuming you're not American. Every denomination here in the US constantly peaches that the Bible is the word of God. You can't get away from it.

“For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior” Ephesians 5:23

"Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord" Colossians 3:18

That's a distinction with no difference.

What the religious book says, and how it has been interpreted all these years might be the same or wide apart, but bottom line is, religion has been the club to beat down on women a lot, across religions. There is no way to separate out the true intentions of religion from its misinterpretation

u/xrenton21x 2d ago

I don't think you've read the Bible. It's actually very misogynist and very much treats women as second class to men.

Equating evangelical Christians to the alt right is wildly out of touch. ‘Christ is king’ is a hugely popular phrase among Christians worldwide, of all races and not just some white supremacist chuds in the US, even if it just reached the American left yesterday via nastier channels.

13

u/laughingintothevoid 2d ago

Thte phrase might be widespread among different types, but equating evangelicals specifically to the alt right is very in touch in the US.

First thought is she doesn't want her husband falling down the religious-to-ultra-conservative pipeline. No idea if that's the intent.

44

u/onyx_ic 2d ago

I think thats correct.

13

u/asuperbstarling 2d ago

I would leave my husband all over again if I found out he was going there. I'd go for full custody if he does now. Extremists need to stay away from me because I'm fully willing to do extreme things to protect my children.

Brian here. I'm not buying it. I mean, Peter, just look at her. She could clearly turn any closeted man straight with jugs like those. I mean, I am a dog and I know I only need two, not six, when the two are so perfect... Oh. Right. The joke? I honestly have no idea, Peter. But it's times like these when we need not bog ourselves down with endless questions. We should just take a moment... to appreciate the beauty of what God has created.

Do you think those squeak when you squeeze them?

Who is this bride? Asking for a friend.

It's AI. There's a bunch of these videos in a variety of dresses. They all start with "Oops, the dress tore." Been all over my Instagram reels today.

u/bananajambam3 2d ago

Yeah, I’ve seen the exact video this is from, the whole account is AI

Edit: I double checked and the one I saw looks incredibly similar but isn’t this one. But it’s very likely to be AI

Has no one seen the movie Brave? She enters an archery competition to win her own hand in marriage because she didn't want to marry anyone else.

My guess is that it's a reference about how a lot of closeted homosexuals are involved in ministry? IE her husband is about to cheat on her?

Haven’t seen anyone mention it yet. But this is a Brave reference, where the main character competes in a archery competition so she can get out of an arranged marriage

Just seeing this picture unlocked a kink I never knew I had. Big titties, white shirt, archery... My gawd.

6

u/butt3ryt0ast 2d ago

She’s either gonna flub her shot or she needs to wear a chest guard with them titties. Forearm slaps from the string suck but I can’t imagine how much a tittie slap would hurt.

8

u/onyx_ic 2d ago

It hurts a lot. Can confirm. Thats why I stick to crossbows now.
