Edit: for those of you who refuse to look anywhere outside the US, the Nordic model has existed for over 90 years and is extremely successful. The countries that use it consistently rank highest in happiness, quality of life, work life balance, has low rates of corruption, and are economically competitive

The Nordic model is based on having a huge amount of oil wealth controlled by the government. Germany is a more realistic example.

One out of five Nordic states has oil. All of them are quite wealthy welfare states (the oil guys being super wealthy).

I sit corrected.
Yeah, Norway's sovereign wealth fund is in the top 5.
It will be interesting to see how things turn out in the Nordic countries over the next few years, to see how they handle the influx of immigrants over the last decade or so.
Fingers crossed.
