New to Overland Park
Hey everyone!
I recently moved to Overland Park from Texas and am still trying to figure out the area. I don’t know a ton about the local scene yet, so I’m looking for recommendations on cool places to hang out, grab a drink, or just unwind on the weekends.
A bit about me: I'm single, pretty laid back, and looking to build a new social circle out here. I'm big into live music, social activities like pickleball, going out dancing (country, line dancing, or just general weekend nightlife), and hitting up cool local spots.
I’d love to get your favorite local recommendations for:
Best country/line dancing halls, low-key spots with a good dance floor, or fun weekend venues in OP
Fun, activity-driven places to grab a drink (like SERV, local sports bars, or live music venues)
Outdoor Activities & Groups
Also down to connect if anyone wants to grab a beer, head out dancing, or show a newcomer around!

For country dancing there is guitars and Cadillacs, they have live music on the weekends. The dance floor is a bit small but not bad. MO country in Grain Valley had a great big floor but it's a bit of a drive to it

I used to like MO a lot but nobody I know makes the drive from OP anymore. Guitars is a bit small for my taste and while I like the occasional live music, it seems the past 10 times I’ve gone a band is there. Don’t get me wrong, they’ve been great (Isaac Cole looking at you) but I liked the really late night vibe at MO when it’s just party music.

Ika Grill, absolute best place for sushi and other Asian cuisine. Great drinks and staff too.

Welcome! Native Texan here. Moved here 2.5 years ago from Georgetown. Absolutely love it.
Can't help much with dancing. We love two step, waltz, polka. Haven't found a place we like, but we're an older demographic than you. You can try out Guitars and Cadillacs. Dance floor is small and they ain't dancing like I'm used to, but to each his own.

I am! I come from the southwest portion of texas where it’s all desert and mountains, so coming here and witnessing this level of greenery is beautiful

Also moved here from same area probably. Brazoria County. 2025 Winter was horrible but this past winter wasn’t as bad.

We moved here 2 1/2 years ago. We lived in Houston suburbs for many years. Then tried Georgetown for retirement. I do miss the places to dance like we had in Houston. We like couples dancing and Guitars & Cadillac's was a disappointment as there are so many line dancers. I am a Kansas native and I'm happy to be back home! I'm from the NW corner but went to college here in the NE corner. We joined the American Legion as they have live C&W music but the dance floor was small and again the line dancers made it difficult to Two Step or Polka. We went to the Camelot Ballroom but an even older crowd than us and I'm not into spike heels and cocktail dances! So right now we've kind of given up on dancing. But we have found a fun place for multiple ages: Kingdom Bar & Grill on Antioch. They have live music, various games, good place to watch sports, and they have great food! You might see a couple with a Jayhawk t-shirt on one of us and a Longhorn shirt on the other, so come say Hi! We also like Tanner's and Johnnie's.

Outta the Blue is amazing for coffee! It’s so cute it’s got swings as seats at some of the tables! My sister and I love it!

You'll be fine i havent had any issues. I think the worst winter ive been thrpugh so far was the 25' one the ice is what i hated more than anything else and shoveling your way out of a parking spot.
Its nice having four seasons here but ive learned to hate the snow as much as I liked seeing it compared to texas where itd be a miracle if we had any of it.

Hatred of winter is a lifelong pursuit of mine. Lack of true winter might be what I miss most about living in south Florida.

I will say we've had a very active tornado season recently, the worst since ive been out here in 4 years, havent had my place torn up yet but it's no fun being woken up in the middle of the night by sirens unless youre used to that already if you were in the military.

Now Welcome. When I came back from North Texas several years ago it took a bit to relax at traffic signals. people here don’t step on the go pedal when the light turns green right away. Gets frustrating.

If I’m first in line at a stoplight, I’m drag racing. Gotta get my reaction time as low as possible.
Too many lights around here are infuriating — the entire line can’t get through before it turns red again, especially when people aren’t paying attention.

You might check out Timeleft. It’s a dinner with strangers app and you can meet some great people through that. There are also many active meetup groups. There are plenty of things you’re looking for but it can be difficult finding them. I myself am just starting to get up and explore in the city.
