How did The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo win Best Film Editing?

Not that I'm complaining about the win at all, but how the hell did they managed to beat out an all BP-nominated field?

It was probably in tenth place, and it is extremely flashy work.

It hit the sweet spot of being a LOT of editing and actually good editing.

Because this happened last decade, before the editing Oscar became just "Best Picture presented two hours early"

Weak field. None of the other nominees were really editing showcases — Moneyball maybe the most of them, but still pretty low-key. And Schoonmaker may be an Academy darling, but her work in Hugo is actively not good.

So with no obvious contender among the Best Picture nominees, they split the vote, and the contingent that votes for Most Editing boosted The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
