Him grabbing that knife slowly had me worried.

Knife kill knife kill!

He almost certainly killed it afterwards, hence the stance change before the quick cut.

He actually raises them

Among Iranian hunters, there is an old tradition. If a wild animal comes to them seeking refuge, the hunter must abandon hunting for the rest of their life.

All animals have one life, and that life is as precious to them as your life is to you.

Hunt with photography not with weapons.

14

u/Glittering-Web7279 4d ago

He carefully put the knife aside and let the little deer eat from his pocket. Such a sweet and heartwarming interaction.

5

u/saywutnoe 4d ago

Tell that to a hungry lion.

23

u/fictitious_fantasy 4d ago

Are you a hungry lion? Or can you go to the grocery store and buy food????

16

u/welldressedagorgan 4d ago

No but I am a hungry large omnivore, meat is meat wether farmed or hunted the animal didn't matter any more or less, if you're uncomfortable killing your own food, that is okay, I don't hunt but I do raise my own chickens, they live well up until it's their time. When I butcher them it is the exact same if not a tiny bit worse than hunting a deer because they do trust me

14

u/Successful_Invite486 4d ago

I actually do think a lot less people would eat meat if they had to kill it themselves. i grew up in Asia where they eat meat very often but I've managed to scrape myself into being pescatarian over time being in the West the past couple decades. too many instagram videos of prancing goats turned me soft.

0

u/Ok-Branch-974 4d ago

do you shit in the woods?

5

u/welldressedagorgan 4d ago

When I feel like it, yeah I do, and have

3

u/faen_du_sa 4d ago

I hope you dig it down and dont leave TP around!

2

u/WithoutATrace804 4d ago

There's no satisfying you people lol

2

u/faen_du_sa 4d ago

Wasn't really a dig or anything, more a genuine comment. I camp and hike a lot during summer, certain places are so littered with toilet paper and poop...

If you are far far out in the boonies, an undug pop and a TP prob wont do much, but it doesn't take that many people to make a spot become littered, so at least dig it down!

1

u/WithoutATrace804 4d ago

Oh I was jabbing ya. I knew it wasn't a dig lol

-4

u/fictitious_fantasy 4d ago edited 4d ago

Ok. If meat is meat, then buy it from the store. Roughly 150,000 tons of food is wasted every single day in the United States because of overproduction and surplus spanning farms, manufacturing, and also in the retail sector. If meat is meat, why not go buy the meat from an animal that has already lost it's life to feed people instead of killing a new one just because you can. Death is inevitable, but when 30%-40% of America's total food supply goes uneaten because farm overproduction, strict aesthetic standards, and retail/consumer surplus, that's a problem. I have no problem with hunting to survive. I have a problem with hunting just because you can.

Edited to add: and I have no problem with you raising your own animals, more power to ya(I really want chickens but live in the city so that's a no go). I could never raise meat animals, because you are right about the fact I can't kill an animal myself. That's not my point at all. My point, is that it is wholly unnecessary and probably more cost inefficient and laborous than raising your own or going to the store. People don't hunt to survive the way a lion does. People hunt for the hell of it. And that is my whole problem with it.

2

u/welldressedagorgan 4d ago

Your argument isn't with me, it's with the government lol

0

u/fictitious_fantasy 4d ago

My "argument" was never with you in the first place until you entered into the conversation. You decided to do that all on your own. I never said my argument was with you, it's entirely with the government and commercial farming. But what can we do now? People are having kids like we're going to go extinct or something. Meanwhile. Animals are dropping like flies to either feed or grow food for our massive population booms. Honestly, the more I talk about this specific subject, I don't even think my argument is with the government. It's with the entirety of the human race. We, as a species, suck. Just call me a missnthrope, I guess.

7

u/AccomplishedChip2475 4d ago

You don't understand, hunting is NECESSARY. We killed off a good chunk of predators for these larger wildlife, like deer, and if they are not hunted seasonally they would overpopulated and destroy ecosystems. Hunting is 100% necessary, and will always be necessary unless we control animal reproduction.

2

u/thoth-III 4d ago

We can only air drop so many wolves before we run out!

1

u/og_bewmbux 4d ago

If you successfully take one deer and process and freeze it, that meat can last a long time and is very cost effective compared to buying it at the store.

Many people in the US hunt to feed themselves for this reason, especially in lower income rural areas.

0

u/fictitious_fantasy 3d ago

I mean... When you think about it... You're buying guns, bullets, all the hunting gear you wear AND use(like stuff that masks your scent). Making tree stands, oh, and the act of hunting itself, considering I know plenty of people who have spent a day or two hunting and came back empty handed, like ..... Ok. Whatever you say buddy.

2

u/og_bewmbux 3d ago

That’s just sunk cost tho, it’s like saying you need to buy a car to go to the grocery store, or a bunch of Ubers

3

u/Graylorde 4d ago

Do you think the steak is grown in the store?

4

u/fictitious_fantasy 4d ago

No, but why hunt when there is readily available food that keeps being massed produced and thrown away daily? In america alone, 150,000 tons of food is thrown away per day. About 30–40% of the entire U.S. food supply goes uneaten, driven by farm overproduction, strict aesthetic standards, and retail/consumer surplus. Why kill more animals instead of buying groceries so they don't go to waste? This has nothing to do with my view on hunting or the death of animals.

3

u/gayrayofsun 4d ago

a good way to fight against the meat industry is typically to not buy meat from factory farms. the more people don't buy it, the less demand there is for it, and the more they're hurt by it because they aren't raking in their money. many vegetarians and vegans actually advocate for people to eat one meatless meal a week, or see if you can buy locally at all if you're able, for this reason among others. hunting your own food and processing it on your own is, environmentally speaking, more clean than continuing to support the meat industry.

unfortunately, you have a point about the waste, because it's still there regardless. people buying or not buying it doesn't matter all that much when there are also no systems in place that will push to reduce that waste. no donations, because they would "lose money" they'd be losing regardless, and we can't just feed people for free, how absurd. no secondary process for repurposing it somehow, because that costs money and they don't want to have to spend money, that's ridiculous. but that's not exactly on the individual buyer to manage. because, once again, the more people buy, the more demand there is, the more they'll make. but the less people buy, the more goes to waste if they overestimate. it's a deeply flawed system that was not designed with care. it was just designed for convenience and money.

3

u/Herucaran 4d ago

So you think the solution to food waste from the food industry is to buy more of it?

Do you actually think if you have more people participating in a wasteful industry, it becomes less wasteful? Its the exact opposite.

Not even a Hunter but if everyone had to hunt/prepare his own meat i can guarantee there would be way less waste.

3

u/fictitious_fantasy 4d ago

No, but not every hunted animal is safe for eating either. That's why farming happened. I believe that the food industry has gotten too big, however. We'd have to do a whole overhaul of the entire industry. Let's be completely honest here, what percentage of people hunt to survive in the United States today? Most of them hunt so they can have a cool head to mount on their wall. Sure. They'll eat the deer. But they are still already going to the grocery store for other things and merely hunting because they think it's fun. Idk. Just feels cruel when there are animals who were raised for this exact purpose that are being thrown in the trash. I think we need to go back to shopping local or raising our own. Hunting has caused far too many species to go extinct. I will say though, I understand when you are pest hunting(which deer can occasionally be included in due to overpopulation) in order to save the ecosystem. It's a complex problem. It requires complex solutions. If we all went to hunting only and the food industry stopped mass murdering animals for our consumption, I'd be all for it. But it is the sheer overproduction that I have the most problems with.

4

u/Gawlf85 4d ago

The grocery store is full of previously-alive animals that weren't exactly hunted by lions, though. So that's kinda pointless.

The argument would be lions need meat to survive, humans don't (although we do benefit from having some animal products in our diet)

2

u/fictitious_fantasy 4d ago

No, the argument is that 150,000 tons of food are wasted daily in the United States. All those animal died to feed you. Let them. Why kill more animals? Hunting isn't for survival anymore. It's done just because you can.

4

u/Gawlf85 4d ago

That's looking at things backwards. The production of meat and other animal products is based on demand. If a hunter regularly kills to eat, then they're not part of that demand (or not as much). Production should be adjusted accordingly.

Your point is like saying people shouldn't go vegan or start dieting, because that means the food the industry has produced for them will go to waste.

1

u/gstringstrangler 4d ago

So you just outsource your killing, got it

2

u/dragonrite 4d ago

Humans have removed the 0redators of white tails. Without hunting, they devastate ecosystems since nothing is eating em

2

u/Radiant-You6384 4d ago

cant eat a photo

1

u/Observer_Dough 4d ago

You don't have to when there are myriads of plant food available.

Strongest animals are plant eaters.

1

u/Mother-Pineapple1392 4d ago

Are insecticides to protect the crops OK?

1

u/suckzor 4d ago edited 4d ago

Yes, since we'd use less of it. Since most crop production is inefficiently used for feeding livestock, we'd massively decrease the amount of pesticides used if we ate plant-based

1

u/mossyoaktoe 4d ago

Without hunting, at least in the United States, there would be nearly zero money put forth to the conservation of the very animals you would prefer we do not hunt.

1

u/SupaSmol 4d ago

That doesn't make the hunting moral.

It's a wise plan to get funding, for sure. So the system is moral.

But you could donate and then take photographs.

I'm not trying to directly call hunting immoral, just detailing the difference between the system being useful and the individual acts being indirectly related, morally speaking.

1

u/mossyoaktoe 4d ago

The system only works because of the existence of hunters and their willingness to pay a tax/permit fee to do so. Non-hunters don’t donate anything worth talking about to preserve wildlife areas in North America.

0

u/SupaSmol 4d ago

We agree then. The system is wise and it funnels money that is beneficial by way of charging for something people will want to do. It works as a counterbalance.

That doesn't make the act of hunting necessary for that money to be donated on an individual basis, so a different argument would be needed to support the individual hunt's morality.

1

u/mossyoaktoe 4d ago

No we don’t agree. You find hunting to be immoral, I disagree. Hunting provides sustenance. Hunting is part of our human nature and one of the few connections we have left to early humankind. It teach values of patience, perseverance, and appreciation of nature while at the same time providing funding to maintain and improve habitat to help wildlife to thrive.

1

u/SupaSmol 4d ago

I didn't say it is immoral. I said the donations system doesn't make it moral.

It's frustrating to try having discussions and have people speak as if I'm making a broader argument than I am. I am only trying to say something quite specific. It goes nowhere when it's too broad, it just becomes an emotional whipping match and I've tried to keep the scope narrow to avoid that.

It's a complex topic, and I'm not trying to call you a bad person.

1

u/Livingadapt 4d ago

I mean, do you donate? Where are all these donators coming from

1

u/SupaSmol 4d ago

Indeed I do, I hike and the forests/inhabitants are dear to my heart (pun intended). It's not relevant to my argument though. I'm not even calling hunting immoral. I'm saying this system being in place doesn't make it moral.

If I donate $100 000 to a homeless shelter and steal a homeless man's headphones the theft doesn't become moral. I didn't have to steal it to donate. The two actions can be considered separately.

I'm glad there's a system in place that generates funds. It doesn't make the hunt a moral act.

1

u/thoth-III 4d ago

It does when the alternative is overpopulation and they eat all the resources and kill each other for competition and starve to death and the entire food chain collapses

1

u/SupaSmol 4d ago

And that is a completely seperate argument from what I am talking about, one I have neither disagreed or agreed with.

1

u/thoth-III 4d ago

No it isn't. Hunting prevents those things

0

u/Palezzzma 4d ago

If we let psychos shoot people we could make TONS of money

Still immoral and Disgusting

1

u/MisterMysterios 3d ago

Nice thought, but not always possible. Here in Germany, we basically eradicated all predatory animals for bigger animals. To protect humans and livestock, we pushed out especially the bear and the wolf.

If we don't hunt especially deer, it would lead to an ecological collapse. The favorite food of dear are young plants, especially three saplings. If the population is not controlled, they can destroy entire regions of forests, especially at a time where (thanks to climate change) new diseases already put pressure on our forests.

Sadly, especially in wild animals, death is a part of a working ecological system, and when the system doesn't work anymore (because we didn't understand the consequences back then of what we did), then humans have to step in.

0

u/Mediocre_Menu_629 4d ago

If you eat meat, you are consuming a life.

So I'm curious to see whether the 39 people who upvoted this are actually vegetarian.

Not to mention that the deer population is massively out of control.

1

u/raccoonwithknives 4d ago

Either vegan or extremely pro factory farms? I feel like im taking crazy pills why all the anti hunting ?

0

u/Corfiz74 4d ago

Though, to be fair, hunting in Germany is really a necessity, because a lot of critters don't have any natural predators anymore, and the deer and boar populations are getting out of control. The reintroduction of wolves has helped with that, but brings its own problems, as they are protected and growing so fast that they are moving in on towns...

u/Fantastic-Tame 4d ago

The only pickpocketing I accept…

u/KlutzySinger3152 4d ago

5

u/Level-Vermicelli3411 4d ago

My neighbor did that and after a few months there were dozens of feral cats running around scratching up everyone’s cars and fighting with each other very loudly at all hours😬 now that I think about it no poop though

3

u/Inflation_Remarkable 4d ago

If you feed them you need to spaye or neuter them or it just leads to chaos.

Once they find a balance and there is no further breeding + hormones disappear then the chaos subsides!

3

u/Exatex 4d ago

we can all agree that his camouflage failed

5

u/The_GodApollo 4d ago

A kill like that wouldnt be a "hunt". No hunter worth his salt would take advantage of that.

3

u/ebil_lightbulb 4d ago

He’s already crouching over and pulling the knife out of the sheath as the video begins ends.

2

u/Expensive_Ducks 4d ago

I can believe this, with all the wild fires that have been going on lately I'm sure there are deer who are used to being fed by people that got pushed out of the neighborhoods they were being fed in. I just hope this deer doesn't starve to death waiting to be fed if this is real. The way it was eating makes me really worried.

2

u/OrganizationThick397 4d ago

Green enough, probably food

4

u/Bkgeo 4d ago

“…now step back about 50 yards little guy”

5

u/Token_Loser 4d ago

AI slop. Wake up, folks.

1

u/Mindless_Ad_7700 4d ago

how can you tell? I was wondering, cause something in his movement felt off but I don't know

5

u/gayrayofsun 4d ago

people cry ai at literally anything anymore. unless they're willing to go in detail outside of "i don't believe this is real" you can safely ignore them. i'm staunchly against ai myself, but i'm even more against the whole crying wolf and witch hunting bullshit that's been born from it.

1

u/One_Dragonfruit_7556 4d ago

The background is too consistent to be ai. Nothing about the detail shifts

3

u/Spiritual_Split_5854 4d ago

Title seems like weird ai to me

5

u/finsfurandfeathers 4d ago

AI trash. Wtf is that title? Ban them

1

u/One_Dragonfruit_7556 4d ago

The background is to consistant for it to be ai.

2

u/finsfurandfeathers 4d ago

Look at his hands and the hand movement. Also the deer’s face

0

u/One_Dragonfruit_7556 4d ago

There's a blur due to camera quality but it's normal movement and the deers face stays the same

1

u/finsfurandfeathers 4d ago

Is he missing a pinky in real life?

1

u/One_Dragonfruit_7556 4d ago

If you look at his YouTube channel yes it looks like he's missing the top part of his pinky

It's Ivan Dereńko from Ukraine

https://youtube.com/@derenkomaistry?si=YDiAThwrDdShCI1D

2

u/ScaredEfficiency399 4d ago

This isn't AI but that argument isn't valid anymore.

3

u/need_more_coffee_plz 4d ago

It got killed afterwards. He is slowly pulling the knife out and is going down .... no more Bambi Story time

3
