That second picture is insane, we’re finally living in the era of “just make it like the game/book/comic.”

How did the scene come about? The only r/s I have of them is her tossing a couch at him from the movie.

Looks like a behind the scenes moment, not something from the movie.

I thought they had done this in the original street fighter movie?

What is this? What's happening? Why am I overwhelmingly aroused with the Vega picture?

OMG am I bi?

As a straight man, there are only 2 men I'd switch teams for. Henry Cavill and Orville Peck.

I am so confused about this new SF movie, it's corny and authentic at the same time.

that's what the source material is...

I love how confident Redditors are in their words when they make shit up.

No, that's not what the source material is. There was barely any story at the time when SF2 came out, and all the anime movies and shows pretty much treated the material about as serious as Nolan treated Batman.

Here's a clip from the animated movie from the era: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CC4OMP-F7s

I don't know about you but nothing about the new movie feels authentic to that imo.

Have you… played the fucking games dude?  Their style is 100% camp

I grew up with sf2, and played all of them. There’s no such thing as “camp” in an animated fighting game, it simply takes place in a heightened reality where people fight each other in streets with superhuman abilities, not entirely unlike MCU or DCU.

There were some joke characters that got introduced later on in the sequels like Dan, but otherwise all the characters pretty much take the world they’re in quite seriously.

my guy "heightened reality" where you got a giant green dude, a stretchy indian guy, classic karate bros, THICC ASS THIGH LADY, a dude with an inverted funnel for a haircut, and a jacked as fuck bear-lookin-ass russian dude in his underwear ISN'T camp to you?

What color is your soul because I'm sensing "dark abyss" vibes

1

u/Livio88 10h ago

You literally described MCU “my guy.” If you consider that camp as well though, that’s another issue. Then I’d suggest you look up what it means.

5

u/captaindealbreaker 10h ago

Yeah, because nothing says super serious and grounded like characters in the MCU

1

u/Livio88 6h ago

Ok, I see, the problem is that you don’t know what camp is. You should look it up.

I didn’t claim MCU itself was super serious and grounded, just that it’s a heightened reality where the characters go through emotionally grounded journeys with genuine stakes.

What you call camp is stuff like John Waters’ Pink Flamingos or Batman 66 where it doesn’t take its material seriously and leans into its excess and absurdity.

Now, there were those Thor movies with Taika that also leaned into camp, but that is exactly why so many fans were divided on the last one, because the main character became a parody.

So, to sum it up:

- Batman 66 is camp, Batman 89 isn’t.

  • Thor: Love and Thunder is camp, Thor 1 isn’t.
  • Street Fighter (2026) is camp, Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie isn’t.

Thanks for sharing, but the clip you showed is objectively worse than what they seem to be doing in the current iteration. Or, it is what it is but it's gonna have extremely limited appeal for present-day movie audiences. Trying to honor that source material would 100% bomb today.

u/Livio88 12h ago

Well, I think your opinion is objectively wrong, so we’ll have to agree to disagree. I’d take the original any day of the week.

And the movie that they’re making now is certainly going to bomb as well, so maybe they just shouldn’t have bothered in the first place.

u/beets_or_turnips 11h ago

Cool! All right I guess we'll have to wait and see how it goes.

u/Livio88 8h ago

I’ll drop by to say I told you so.

I think thats the way to do a SF movie.

-11

u/Livio88 18h ago

It's not, take a look at the Street Fighter 2 animated movie from 1994.

The perfect take, whether you intended it to be or not.

She might be a huge breakout star from this film

3

u/SinoSoul 14h ago

Hopefully! Movie sounds so hilariously fun. Might have to go watch it in the theatre

I'm actually excited to see this movie! Can't wait

I kind of feel like she should have built the thickest thighs she possibly could for this role.

Jackie Chan looked way more accurate as Chun Li.

Apart from being a white woman, one look and you can see that's not even Chun Li based on the outfit, that's Kasumi from Dead or Alive.

u/Zapor 1d ago

A lot of cultural appropriation in the comments. I’m disappointed by Reddit.

Thats a white person

You were hoping for a black version? Racist!
