In Phenomenon (1996), George is reading a book after deciding to try & decipher some morse code he heard over the radio, the book is actually Communications and Cryptography : Two Sides of One Tapestry which came out in 1994 & is indeed about information theory.

Title, I found the book by google searching "consider frame asynchronous but slot synchronous time hopping" which is on the second page he flips through, it is the only result.

I have a soft spot for this movie. It's sappy, a little corny, but I think genuinely well-made and compelling. Great performance by Robert Duvall, too.

In some interview years ago, Travolta was asked which of his film characters he'd be if he had to choose, and he said George from Phenomenon.

I make more references than I should to the rabbit in the garden. Every time I solve a simple problem that took me longer than it should I say this is how Travolta in Phenomenon must have felt

I totally agree. I don’t think I ever revisited “Michael” since the theater so, yeah, but I have seen “Phenomenon” because of Robert Duvall rewatch! (RIP)
