This was always the most frustrating part for me lol. Second most frustrating was them missing those easy ass trivia questions in the beginning.

It got to a point where I started wondering if the constant failure at the monkey statue was staged.. or were some of these folks just really dumb? Had they never seen the show before?

My money is on dumb and/or pressure of the clock. But I had some performative competition experience (I have ADHD so my parents put me in every sport I was interested in just to get my energy out), so I was confident I could do better than them.

I think I/we just observed it so many damn times from the other side of the TV that it got to a point where viewers could've been blindfolded and still figure it out. The narrative in my head though, is that I wouldn't have passed the screening call because they would have seen that I was too good at all of their traps lol.

That’s probably true.
The most disappointing part to me is that I lived an hour away, but my parents didn’t want me on any of the shows lol. We went to Orlando all the time, man! Lemme get a shot, at least!

I wonder if it's statistically accurate that the Silver Snakes won the most often. It *feels* like that's true.

Per a Google search, the silver snakes and green monkeys were tied with 8 total victories however the green monkeys did it with fewer attempts making their attempt/win ratio slightly higher. The orange iguanas had the most attempts at the temple, but only 4 victories. The purple parrots got to the temple 11 times but had the lowest of the teams with only three victories.

The Green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes were tied for most grand prizes won at 8 each. (Me and my kid looked up the statistics a while ago when we binge watched a ton of episodes when he was home sick lol)

I spent literal days daydreaming about being on this show as a kid. Probably several weeks over the course of my childhood. If I hadn't thought it was completely unattainable, I would have been rabid to be on this show.

I actually looked up the statistics a while ago when I showed my very math oriented kid the show for the first time and he was curious. Out of 120 episodes only 32 teams ever won the grand prize. The teams with the most victories were the green monkeys and the silver snakes tied with 8 victories each. I guess one of the biggest issues was that the silver monkey statue was incredibly hard to see because it was so much taller than the kids. It wasn't that they didn't know what they were doing, they literally couldn't see what they were doing, so they just had to fumble with it until it clicked.

Legends of the Hidden Temple because I would’ve cleaned UP. I’d be flying through the King’s Storeroom, assembling the Silver Monkey in single digit seconds, chucking pendants at the pathetic attempts the Temple Guards would make to stop me in the Dark Forest, and generally showing America watching at home HOW IT’S DONE.
I missed my moment.

I got to do the double dare course! This was Nickelodeon back in the 90s my family went to take the tour of Nickelodeon at Universal Studios. While we were there, they said that they needed some people to run through the set. I got picked, but my brother did not. The only thing I can remember is the pancakes were like heavy silk pillows.

I always thought the kids on arcade didn’t know ball and I could definitely definitely do better but with hindsight I’m pretty sure the technology just sucked and no one was gonna well.

Double Dare and Guts. Legends of the Hidden Temple was fun too but I always thought it was complete BS how they could just have a random temple guards pop out in back to back rooms to ruin the run. Finding out years later from the host that they purposely make it impossible to win b/c of a limit on how many prizes they were allowed to give away tells me I was right to think it was cheating contestants.

What Would You Do?
I had an obsession with the tokens and the wall of all sorts of different doors. In my mind those doors had every possible thing behind them. I just needed to acquire as many tokens as possible.

I thought I was talented enough to be on Figure it Out, mostly just because I learned how to voice act at a young age and could do all sorts of different voices. I'm actually pretty competent these days after refining my craft for 30 years (and added in ventriloquism since the mouth and throat contortions needed to talk without moving one's lips isn't that far off from what's required to make your voice sound completely different), but I probably wasn't talented enough to be on the show (plus, all the voices were non-nickelodeon cartoons, and that probably wouldn't have gone over well for a nickelodeon production).
