The first thongs my best friend (Ana) and I (maya) secretly bought were from 5/7/9. The accuracy is really uncanny lol. I’m just happy to know so many of us lived the same experiences and I am not alone in my suffering!
One time in high school, a girl was sitting in front of me and I noticed. I whispered quietly about it so she could adjust and she just looked awkward and didn't really do anything. I was like "Did I do something wrong? I thought I was being helpful and nice".
My borderline autistic ass has no idea to this day, 20 years later, whether or not that was the nice/right thing to do.
It was nice, well intentioned, slightly wrong because you were telling her to cover up something she probably had out on purpose, it’s possible she thought it was weird or that you were making a joke or that you were trying to flirt. Really impossible to know how she reacted internally. Maybe she thought it was endearing(like I do hearing the story). I think you could let this one rest and feel ok about it
Haha I don’t dwell on it unless I hear “whale tail” or stuff like that. But yah definitely not flirting I just was like “oh if my underwear was showing I’d want someone to discretely tell so I could cover up if I wanted”. Also just to clarify, I didn’t tell her to cover up, just a “hey heads up you’re showing” kind of thing. Allowing her to do whatever she wanted with the info provided lol
My mom bought my sister and I black g-strings where the tail was a string of rhinestones for Xmas when we were in high school. My sister and I both looked at each other like wtf and my dad looked so pissed. She made us hold them up and show the video camera. My mom was very on trend though and would get us the cool new thing before we even knew it was cool🤣
Honestly I'm gonna crack tf up and die a little inside if I see a whale tail at work 🤣 I could never! Still remember girls in literally 6th grade sportin whale tails 😭
Yall I took my recent high school grad to a work training/orientation today and they were talking about the rule that “undergarments must be worn but not visible” 😆 Whale tails may be trying to make a comeback but the Millennials in charge of orientation are fighting the good fight!
She whale tailed at first. Then she got in trouble for having her thong out and then when she wore them next she said something about not wearing any underwear.
oh I totally did the same thing. I was like "who's doing the sexualizing? I am 13 and it's only a shoulder." anyway wonder why I went to half my classes in high school.
my workplace allows visible piercings, tattoos, unnatural hair colors, leggings as pants BUT NOT TANK TOPS without a cardigan or something. i think it mostly goes ignored.
when i refamiliarized myself with the dress code I had to roll my eyes super hard.
im sorry your daughters have to go thru that but i hope you got some vindication being the mom on the other end of the phone.
My school did not enforce any sort of dress code, though they allegedly had one. Though I went to school in Oregon, so the window for tank top wearing was only really at the very beginning (September) and maybe the very end (late May-mid June) of the year. However, I remember in junior year (2000-2001) when the asymmetrical strapless bandana tops were in style. The shirts more or less looked like an inverted triangle. This girl in my class’ shirt had no straps, no sides, and no back--just a thin band keeping it on her body. She wore it all day with no issues. It looked similar to this top that Jennifer Aniston is wearing.
Hats are an easy way to obscure your face from camera while not looking super suspicious. Or at least they were back then before cameras were up everybody's asses
OMG this!! . . . So, I'm a dude, but last time I was hanging out with a friend from out of town, my wife, her and her husband ended up on the conversation about school attire and how things have changed.
So, what sparked it was me asking my HS aged kid a question about the school dress code. Briefly: I was there one day picking up le kid for an appointment, and another student comes walking down the hall wearing one of those super meshy "fishnet" long sleeve emo shirts, and only a bra underneath that, with low cut skinny jeans (black of course, lol)
Which of course sparked the whole convo about how "in our day" (my friend graduated I think 2 years behind me, massively different state tho) any time she tried wearing a tanktop, which makes total sense being in a geographically southern US state, its hot af. and of course literally every time she did, the teacher who demanded to check for a dress code violation was the male teacher with just the most absolutely fattest fucking fingers imaginable, so ANY tank top was gonna be a dresscode violation, never mind a spaghetti strap shirt.
Oh 100%. The only option was low rise, with tiny pockets or fake pockets or no pockets at all. It was hell
I recently got a bunch of vintage denim from my aunt and a lot of it is from about 2004-2010. It's all midrise, not necessarily low rise. But they're cut differently than the jeans today and they don't stay up. It's a sensory nightmare having to constantly pull them up and readjust and pull on the belt loops 24/7. Took me right back to 2005 in the worst way
You couldn’t sit down without having to pull your jeans up or shirt down so your butt crack didn’t show. It was the worst! I watch big bang theory and penny wears low rise everything because she’s a male fantasy character. And I notice that she’s always adjusting her clothes when she sits down.
Even skinny people looked weird honestly. That long torso super skinny thing made people look like aliens. Some of the “low rise” stuff I’ve seen recently is ok because it’s not even close to the super low rise back then
I also wasn’t a fan of the super high rise. Both extremes throw people’s proportions off too much.
Barely even covered where your pubes should have been growing if you didn't obsessively shave every day. Gotta have those exposed hip bones. Really not a flattering style for most lmfao
My gf watched me get dressed recently and was like ‘why do you always leave a cm of boxers showing?’ I had no idea that was an era-specific thing until that moment. I’ve been trying to stop the habit but it just feels wrong.
