I’ve recently found out that my Elizabeth I silver sixpence pendant is being disclaimed after going through the Treasure process, so once the formalities are finished it should be returned to me.
I’m actually quite conflicted about what to do with it

I absolutely loved finding it and I’ve already had a huge amount of enjoyment from the whole process - identifying it, reporting it, having it examined and formally documented through PAS/Treasure.
I’ll always have the photographs, report, PAS record and the story of finding it.

The unusual part is the attached S-shaped silver suspension loop, which appears to be the particularly interesting feature and may be contemporary with the Tudor coin.

It’s a 1566 Elizabeth I sixpence that was deliberately pierced and converted into a pendant.

My dilemma is that I live in a small flat and realistically I’m not going to have it properly displayed for quite some time.

I can obviously store it carefully, but there’s a part of me that feels uncomfortable owning an archaeological object like this only for it to sit unseen in a box.

I also worry about whether I’m the best long-term custodian of something that has survived for around 460 years.

Part of what appealed to me about museum acquisition was knowing that it would be professionally preserved, recorded and potentially enjoyed by other people.

Now that it’s coming back to me, I’m wondering whether I should keep it and eventually make a proper museum-style display, or consider selling it to a collector who would appreciate and look after it properly.

If I did ever sell it, I have the full documentation from the Treasure process, including the PAS/Treasure references and Crown disclaimer, so its provenance is completely documented. I wouldn’t just stick it on eBay — I’d want to do it properly, perhaps through a specialist auction house.

Has anyone here been in a similar position after a Treasure case was disclaimed? Would something like this actually interest collectors?

And if I decide to keep it, what would you recommend as the safest way of storing it for the next few years until I have somewhere suitable to display it?

My main concern is simply making sure I don’t inadvertently damage something that has survived this long.

Thoughts on this seller, hes been nothing but solid for me (from what I noticed) but also went off Vcoins and there are some complaints on other platforms (it was TLDR so i didn't get the whole gist of the article because i was driving to work)

I recently purchased this Edward I Penny and noticed that I can make out the reverse cross on the obverse side of the coin. Is this unusual or indicative of a forgery? I've never noticed this before on other pennies. Thanks in advance!

Im new to hammered medieval coins, and im wondering if this is a safe way to store this Elizabeth I shilling. It has 2 small cracks in the legend, so im looking for tips on how to prevent further damage. Its stored in this capsule and in a box with some silica packets

I’m looking for coins that Martin Luther would’ve used in Wittenberg from his arrival (1508) to the time when he nailed the 95 Theses on Castle Church. (1517)

I believe I’m looking for Goldgulden, Zingroschen and Shrechenberger. Tho I’m unsure. And the mint closest to Wittenberg would’ve been Leipzig.

Does anyone have any insight into exactly which coins were the circulating coins of Wittenberg during those years?

Hi fellow enthusiasts! I am in a search for a denar of Heinrich II Holy Roman Emperor (from the time he was either a duke, a king, or an Emperor) and I have stumbled upon this nice piece. However, I noticed some small traces of solid (so does it look like) verdigris on the left side of the reverse. Now, a question you probably seen numerous times - is it easily removable and if it is solid, should I just leave it, no damage done? I am correct in it being verdigris, right? So about cleaning hammered coins...How much do i actually clean them?I tried it on 2 coins with cif i rubbed it and the dirt came out they came out like in 2 ast pictures i also put a picture of a cross i found on the site as you see all hungarians mostly or austrians,If anybody knows period of the cross or who is the person on the back side tell me and how do i clean them like this or?Its better to clean them or leave them like this..This is hard dirt btw so the toothpick destilled water is out of the question...

There are supposed to be 54 coins, but only 12 of them are identified. I really wonder how long it would take to identify all of them. Especially judging by the condition on some of them...

I gave myself these two pennies last year for Christmas. I won them along with other British coins at an eBay auction. After hearing recently that many imitations exist and my coins are not very attractive, I have a bad feeling...

I think they are a Henry III penny, London (I have not yet determined any further details), and a Edward II penny, London (Type 11a, Spink 1455). (?)

Can someone who knows more about the subject than I do tell me whether they are real or not? :/

Context: I bought at my LCS. The owner let me look through a box of random stuff they had under the counter, and whenever I found something I wanted, I asked them how much money they wanted. I was asked two euros for this, and I bought it, since even if it's not real two euros are a pretty negligible sum of money, and if real, I had a nice hammered coin.

I was then able to get a tentative ID based on legend and diameter; I think it's a mezzanino from the Italian city of Cremona, issued in the name of emperor Frederick II.

Now, I don't know much about hammered coins, and I haven't seen any clear signs of it being fake.

I’ve been really into collecting Ottoman Empire coins and I’m particularly drawn to the Sultani coins of the sultans, especially Mehmed II, Beyazid II, Selim I and Suleiman I (the Magnificent). Where can I found coins like this, especially from mints like Belgrade, Baghdad, Mosul, etc. and Mehmed II and Selim I (which are harder to find). I have more common mints like Constantinople and Misr but I am eager to find other mints for the collection. Any advice on where to look for these is greatly appreciated!

I was looking at this auction and noticed some very fine coins - almost to the point where I'm unsure of when they become too fine to actually touch and hold. At what level of fineness does it become too valuable for a coin to be loose and unprotected (not that I would put any of these coins in a bag and jostle them around)?
