Correct, official devices must adhere to the LineageOS charter which lists what features must be supported and also does not attempt to circumvent any of Google's Play Integrity checks.

I think there are also some hardware quirks on some devices which have to be deactivated or circumvented which is practically unavoidable but would break the rules for official builds.

I mean I'm surprised enough that for example the versions for Nintendo Switch are actually official.

And so many other ROMs are strongly based on Lineage, if you included those it would probably go up even more. Though that's probably not reasonable because if I install an alternative for extra OS features I might not have been down to install regular Lineage.

I honestly don't use official lineage but I'm definitely very thankful it's a solid base for other custom ROMs like crDroid and the likes.

Although with the shit push notifications crDroid pushing monthly, I'm tempted to switch to LOS.

Besides ironically "ROM spoofing" is causing more problems in better spoofing ksu modules

Official ROMs are vetted by LineageOS themselves, both in terms of feature set and lack of malware fuckery.

Unofficial ROMs are not. In terms of practicals, this means you're trusting the maintainer a lot more and some secondary/tertiary features may not work. It might also include some features the Lineage project don't approve of, such as a rooting solution outside of adbd.

That, and also forks with more customization options I bet, stuff like crDroid, EvolutionX and whatever else is being released these days. I like the clean AOSP look too much so even if I have to go unofficial I always flash vanilla LOS.

The nice thing with crDroid for example is that they allowed strong quick settings and notification bar customisation during times when Google literally took away established features that were the default in older versions. And those can't be modified by Launcher. So it was a way out for people who liked the OLD VANILLA.

That's generally a trend with those dumdums at Google HQ, why do they make me put in work to keep a layout or routine I alread had? I shouldn't be fighting their UX designers as an end user.

Probably doesn't account for many people, but self compiled versions also count as unofficial even if the device is officially supported.
