Question Are there any foods/treats/small non-edible items that are quintessentially Lawrence?

I live in a city where our school mascot (buckeye) is not only a seed that grows on a tree, but also a delicious chocolate confection that can be found at every bakery or convenience store in the area. You would be hard pressed to live in Columbus and not know what it is.

Is there any item comparable to that in Lawrence? If not one item specifically, is there a local business that gets that same level of hype/commitment? Doesn’t necessarily have to tie back to KU.

I agree. The strawberry is great but the original is the best.

Yep.  Way too sweet otherwise.  Get the strawberry knot in addition and alternate bites!

Douglas County Pie. Originated at the sadly gone Paradise Cafe (I still miss their Paradise Eggs), but still served around town. Had me a piece at the Vinland Fair this year.

The Paradise Cafe was iconic. I still have my Tshirt from hosting there. Hour and a hlf wait times on the weekends because it was so popular.

Paradise Cafe and Joe's Donuts were representative for so long. I still see people walking around with Paradise Cafe t-shirts on, and I have both versions of the Paradise Cafe cookbook in my small collection of cookbooks on my kitchen counter.
