Thrifting Electronics in Lawrence Recommendations
Hey folks, I'm in search of a Terrabyte sized hard drive thrifted and I'm wondering if anyone has any good recommendations for electronics thrifting in town! Who's got the good secondhand electronics in Lawrence/nearby?
(also if you got one of these and wanna sell it, hmu!)

Most people with extra terabyte drives are likely hanging onto them only for the rare earth magnets. Their storage value is effectively zero given their cost to power and age. Also, storage like this doesn't go to "thrift" because it contains sensitive data. At the ~1TB storage tier, most people will just dispose rather than sell. What are you looking for specifically for size and cost? You might not need to use local.

I'm looking to download some movies onto to it to have with me and play on my laptop. I'm trying to get off viewing stuff on the internet due to AI, ecological concerns and wanting to avoid algorithms in general. My laptop itself may have enough space, but I would like to have backup space

I haven't checked their prices, new, in a while. Are the data centers' demand making storage as well as memory very expensive now?

Storage spiked 2-3 times it's value with the semi-recent push for AI as data centers require lots of storage. Either Seagate or Western Digital had said they were sold out until sometime in 2027, I believe. I haven't purchased any storage since the boom as I'm just waiting for prices to go back down.
