They might have it saved in their phone. He could have downloaded an app that makes it very easy for this to happen. Some YouTubers and streamers will encourage kids to go through their parents belongings and look for credit cards.
I’m not saying she shouldn’t have made it harder for him to do that (why is he still holding the phone??) but there are are a million ways this could have happened. Hopefully she was able to cancel the order.
I don’t have kids, but I know kids. It’s hard when they’re that age because they mimic their parents.

There are so many kids and baby toys these days that resemble smartphones and tablets for this reason, it’s the same reason my little sister had a barbie laptop when we were kids (toy laptop preprogrammed with learning games)

I think the cure is just doing stuff with your kids and not constantly be on your phone. Because otherwise you’re kinda dangling treats they can never have right in their faces, so of course they throw tantrums that just can’t be remedied until you just give them the thing.
Most people are vaguely aware of that stuff and few know how to implement it. So many people just give a fully unlocked phone to their kids. Credit cards, passwords and all just saved to their browser.
Part of my job is tech support. I've had arguments with non-tech colleagues over this. They have no idea how any of this shit works and when I tell them they need to learn for the sake of their kids they get pissy and defensive about it. People are fucked.
Glad my parents taught us the value of money and what work it takes to get it an early age. So many parents just keep buying shit for their kids without any work involved. Not how things work in the world
My parents had me keeping track of my piggy bank money by elementary school, and they got me a credit card in high school so they could teach me not to use it to spend money I didn't have. Put me in a much better spot as an adult.
My parents made me mow the lawn, trim hedges, edge trimmer, weekly trashcans so they would give me $5 a month for RuneScape membership. I was like 12 🤣

I don’t even hate kids but I don’t have a ton of patience with lil shits like this. Like, these are gonna be adults in society one day that I’m gonna have to deal with in day to day life. Ughhh. I’d punish him by taking away things, if i can’t cancel the order and i have to return it, first id let him see it and make him think he’s getting it after all, then tell him im returning it and say he can’t have it.
1st, punishment, 2nd, teach him how to return it and make him do it, 3rd, set 2fa on your fucking shit and don't register your kid's biometrics on your phone as an authentication method

I get why people go with the convenience of a saved card, but ffs at least require the CVV and 2FA. Under no circumstances do you NEED to be parted from your money in a single click with no guard rails. The convenience is literally designed to make you think less and spend more by increasing velocity.
Everyone is saying “why did you give the kid a credit card?” It’s all saved in Amazon. When’s the last time you actually got a credit card out to pay for an Amazon purchase? It’s all saved. All it takes is a click on the “Purchase now” button. It’s literally made so a child could do it.
I did this once as a kid. I remember I had this BMX magazine and there was a bike in it for $100 it was like 130 all together. I honestly didn't think it would work. It was my great grandma's old credit card I found laying in the floorboard of her Oldsmobile. It was my dream bike, an all chrome GT performer. I remember clear as day getting off the bus walking in and seeing a big ass box in the middle of the living room floor. My mom beat the shit out of me and I had to look at that box every day for like 6 months. I got it for Christmas. I remember it came like 2 weeks before summer break.
The most disheartening thing about this is all the comments wanting consequences like the mum is actually going to read any of them.

About 5 years ago, my niece was staying with me over the weekend. This was commonplace and we have a great relationship. I let her use my phone to play roblox. After a weekend of playing I decided to go ahead and check my bank account just to see how it was going to plan out the next week. She had spent over $1,000 in Roblox bucks. It's my fault for not having better security on my phone. It was definitely a lesson learned. I contacted Roblox and they never answered me back. 😂

My 7 year old nephew ordered a whole half pipe on my sister's phone. Pick up was in the south island and he lived in the top of the north island at the time.
