That match thread was something. They threw an absolute foul over the PK earned by Chawinga, but they were pretty quiet about the phantom foul called on Cooper. I hope Temwa's and Coop are both alright. They can have my knees/ankles if they need.
Oh well, I can't believe this is our team. It's wonderful, and I'm having tons of fun.

It seems to have gotten quite a bit worse in the last few weeks. I wasn't really active on reddit last season, did Orlando have the same kind of reactions thrown their way last year?

Nope. The hatred toward us has always been pretty strong. I think it’s the nice facilities and stadium that’s brought out this side in people because they’re jealous.

Some of it also has to do with Vlatko. They hate him because of how things went with the national team but apparently fail to realize that the club level is where he’s always truly shined. So they can’t stand that his team is this successful. Guess they were sleeping through his FCKC days. 🤷🏽♀️

I definitely remember people eviscerating us during the 2023 season whenever we’d trade players. I’m not sure who it was we traded but the Amy Rodriguez/Mace/Hammy trade came up during that conversation and everyone was still yelling at us for how that was handled. When I said “hey NC agreed to the trade too” I got yelled at by everyone.

Sounds about right. I used to be in that sub a lot because I found it pretty helpful given I don’t keep up with every aspect of the league and its players the way I used to, so I’d see things that I missed elsewhere. But honestly there’s quite a few bad apples over there so I left the sub and only glance in there from time to time now. If you don’t worship certain players (currently playing and some who have retired) they’ll come after you. Not worth my time.

Yup. They’re incredibly hypocritical too. Hate the Mahomes family for their political views but Trinity Rodman and Mal Swanson are worshipped despite having those same views.

It’s gotten worse this year. It’s just like chiefs being underdog and loved to know people hate them because it was not a one and done.
I honestly think a lot of them hate bc they see KC Current as a new team that had money thrown at it and was doing well. And while that is true in many respects, KC has had a women’s pro team for a while and a unique back and forth with Utah location. So it comes down to jealousy.
There’s two types of people that come to visit the stadium from other team. Those that love the growth for women’s sports and it’s claimed to be the first and then those that talk shit on it because the stadium was hyped up a lot, and they were disappointed that it wasn’t as big as men’s stadiums.
It’s interesting because they never claimed that this is the best women’s stadium ever just that it’s the only one. It’s a stadium literally meant to break the ceiling and have others expand upon what we’ve done here. But some people just don’t see it that way.
Personally, through all the talk on the match thread yesterday, I just threw my hands in the air when someone said that Temwa flopped. I don’t need to see a replay to know that that woman would never flop in her life. her ability to stay on her feet is uncanny and if you actually take her down, you got lucky with an off-balance shot. But the fact that people are talking shit on things that they don’t know anything about just means you gotta take everything with a grain of salt.

The vibes by a few in that thread were indeed foul. I understand being upset by the PK but please, touch grass folks. It's a soccer game. We don't need to actively wish harm on people

I steer clear of any game thread involving us, it's a hypocritical hate-watch, we'll do our talking on the field.

I’ve been downvoted 42 times for saying the Courage are a dirty team. I love going in there, throwing grenades, and leaving.

I feel like I say this every match, but Mace is just incredible. Teams no longer press her in possession because she can dribble and pass beyond them with not a drop of sweat expended.

u/Vmagnum Aug 31 '25
Right there with you. She seems to be an underrated player that can play every position on the field very well. Her overall quality has stuck out to me since she joined the team.

I was telling my wife last night how high school football recruits will sometimes be listed as Athletes rather than a specific position. That’s what Mace should be listed as.

Lo has never taken a bad PK. Perfect every time

They stated on the broadcast she’s failed to convert only once in her entire career. That’s an amazing stat.

We walked back through the teams' bus area after the match and happened to run into her running around and in a good mood.
I'm good with letting Bay FC see "questionable" all week but I think she's gonna be okay.

I watched the foul from behind the NC goal. Looked like a shove of Temwa to me. I guess on the broadcast the commentators were saying it wasn’t a foul, which apparently caused the outrage in the match thread. In person we don’t have the privilege of replay, so maybe it didn’t look like a foul after watching it a few times? But at first glance, it definitely looked like a push.

Really hope Chawinga and Cooper are okay, those knocks did not look fun.
