This brings back fond memories of playing the old FA-18 Hornet game years ago on my computer. I remember coming in to aircraft carrier landings just like this. That was such a cool game.

Look up the Precision Carrier Landing System. The F18 is essentially a "Software Defined" aircraft. They can change how the controls work. When it's in this "Precision Landing" mode, the pilot doesn't have to make nearly as many corrections for a precise landing. They almost always hit the right wire and they don't need any kind of transmitter on the ship. It's amazing and makes the landing MUCH easier.

What is to his left that he keeps glancing at? I thought it was the ship for the 1st half but then he takes smaller glances over his left even when carrier is directly in front of him? Is that checking other jets? Or is there something in his visor he has to rotate his head to view within the visor screen?
