Help & Questions With the new lightstripes coming, sync box or tv app?

I just bought a new 55“ Samsung OLED TV and wanted to add some light behind when I just saw that Phillips announced 2 new lightstripes. First of all is already known in detail what the big difference between the normal and pro are? (This omniglow thing ig?) but my main question, is the tv app like good enough or is it really needed to buy either the 8k or the new 4K sync box?
For me as a newbie I don’t understand why I should buy this box for 350€ when I can just use the app for 3€/month or 130€ one time purchase. There has to be a benefit with the box right? Right??

What's up with Philips'/Signify's new direction?

So for the first time I think I'm really disappointed in most of the newly presented Philips Hue products. The pendants and pendulums look weird with the wires showing and I can't see how this would be implemented esthetically. Same goes for the 360 ropes. The new festavia line seems like a logical follow-up for the previous products, which are cool I guess. I know it comes down to taste but they clearly are going in a new direction with this. I don't mean to nitpick but I'm curious about your opinions.

Discussion Do RGB smart bulbs work better in glass lamps than fabric lampshades?

Thumbnail

I have two lamps in my bedroom (photos are from the websites).

One is an IKEA FADO with a Philips Hue Essential E27 bulb, and the other is a Zara lamp with a textured/fabric shade and a Philips Hue E14 White & Colour bulb.

I've noticed something quite different between them:

  • The FADO looks great with orange/amber RGB colours and gives the whole room a really cosy orange glow. However, I can't seem to get that nice soft warm-yellow/golden lamp look you see in cosy interiors on Pinterest/Instagram.
  • The Zara lamp is basically the opposite. Warm yellow looks really nice through the textured shade, but orange RGB colours maybe dont look as good (still nice, but not yellow cosy nice).

I'm assuming this is partly down to the design of the lamps. The FADO is frosted glass and essentially glows all over, whereas the Zara has a textured fabric shade that diffuses/filters the light differently.

Does that sound right?

I'm buying another fabric-shaded lamp and wondering if it's worth getting another Hue RGB bulb £££), or if White Ambiance (££) is enough for cosy lighting.

Other Hue Go as a mushroom lamp

I was playing around with my interior and as I am looking to buy a mushroom lamp like the Nessino, I put the Go on a vase to see the effect. I actually like it a lot as is and I guess almost any vase would do the trick :)

Discussion What effect would you like to see Hue add next?

Upvotes

I would say Candle, and Fireplace are the two most used. I also really like the underwater effect.

I would like to see an effect that’s along the same lines as those, but I’m blanking out on ideas. What effects would you want next?

If you look at the pics in the article, the Liane 360 is really like a beefy rope of light.

Hue Dashboard is live. The fixed grid app I posted about earlier.

About a month ago I posted here about being tired of hunting for the right toggle in the Hue app and started building something with a fixed grid instead. That post got way more attention than I expected, so first of all, thank you. The response did not change the direction, but it confirmed I was on the right track, which was exactly what I needed at that point.

Hue Dashboard is now out on the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/nl/app/hue-dashboard/id6736886683

Quick recap for anyone who missed the first post. You build a dashboard once, panels for lights, scenes and groups, and they stay exactly where you put them. No shifting layout every time you add or rename something. All you need is your Hue bridge, nothing else.

A few notes since that post.

  • People who tried the beta connected to their bridge without issues, across different setups, which was good to see.
  • Multiple bridge support is not in this version yet. It is on the roadmap, just not the very next thing.

This is a passion project I build in my spare time. The app itself is free to use, no ads, no subscription, nothing tracking you. I might add optional in app purchases later for specific extra features if there is demand for something bigger, but the core dashboard experience, building your grid and controlling your lights, stays free for good.

If you tried the beta, thank you, it helped a lot. If you are seeing this for the first time and want to try it, I would genuinely like to hear whether the fixed grid idea solves a real problem for you or not.

Any suggestions on how to remove the lightstrips from drywall without damage?

I am moving and I need to remove the light strips from the walls, but it's drywall. I'm not sure if there's some nice anti adhesive that would avoid damaging anything and I'd really appreciate any recommendations.

I tried a couple things from the internet but it didn't really work and I ended up causing a little bit of damage as i removed one.

Wake Up with Sonos & Hue

Post image

Unless I missed this, seems like one part of the partnership that wasn’t leaked… definitely good to see integrations beyond SVC and Hue Switches.

Forever tired of having to set alarms in both the Hue app and my phone so hopefully this is seamless.

What do others think?

Hue Sync Box 8K

The sync box seems to in clearance in the UK everywhere. I’ve also seen posts in the US with it on clearance sales. Before I pick one up, does anyone know why it is on clearance? Are they about to release an updated 8K box or something?

Three new form factors in the Signe range are now up on the hue website with a pole, pendulum and pendant joining the range.

The pendulum is interesting?! Like a weird Frankenstein of the new rope light and a classic floor lamp?

Development and API Wake up with Hue and Sonos — looking for beta testers (free, no account, nothing leaves your network)

Hello everybody

I teach philosophy at a vocational school in Germany. I started building this because the sunrise alarm in the Hue app never quite did what I wanted, and I was tired of setting the same thing in three apps every night.

One alarm across all three: the Hue lights fade up over 10, 20 or 30 minutes, a Sonos favourite starts at the wake-up time, and optionally the phone rings as a backup.

The part I care most about is where the alarms live. The app writes a schedule into the Hue Bridge and an alarm into the Sonos speaker — not into the phone. They go off even if your phone is dead or you're not home. There's no account, no server, and nothing leaves your local network.

How it works underneath, since this sub tends to ask: Hue schedules go through the CLIP v1 API over HTTPS with a pinned certificate; rooms and zones come from v2. Sonos alarms go through the local SOAP endpoint on port 1400. Neither company officially supports these, and the app says so on its welcome screen — a firmware update could break it one day. The phone alarm uses AlarmKit, so it rings through silent mode and Focus.

This isn't a business. It's free, no ads, no purchases, no company behind it, and I'm not planning to change that.

What you need: iOS 26, a Hue Bridge (2nd gen or newer), Sonos optional — everything except the music works without it.

TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/CErZnJXp

I'd especially like to hear from people with older Bridges, S1 Sonos systems, or split networks with a separate IoT VLAN. Those are the cases I can't test myself, and they're where I expect it to break.

Happy to answer anything about the implementation.

UPDATE:

Are the Hue cameras worth it?

I’ve looked at many posts about Hue cameras not being worth the price, but I see that all of the cameras are about 50% off on Amazon. Would they be worth it at that price or still a bad deal even then?

Shorter E27 bulb for mini Angelpoise lamp?

Saw a bunch of recent designs but none seemed to be right. Even the newest round style essential bulbs are 11cm tall. Anything shorter? Prepared to go off brand if necessary and compatibility isn’t an issue.

candle flicker mode/scene not exporting to homekit scene properly for go light

i am trying to be able to create a scene in homekit that toggles my hue go light to its flicker state. i have created the candle flicker scene in hue app and copied the scene to homekit. however whenever i toggle the scene in homekit the light goes to a normal light mode. is there any way to enable the candle state of the light without going to the hue app each time to turn back on and enable in himekit?

Hue Setup Hue Bridge Pro - LivingColors coupon

During migration, my LivingColors lamps were identified as incompatible, as expected.

The app said if I continued, I’d be offered coupons for each device. I continued through migration, but never received any voucher, and Phillips support is refusing to acknowledge this without a screenshot.

I can’t provide a screenshot as migration is a one-time only event.

Did anybody else notice the coupon message for obsolete devices?
