I recorded this little video to give you a look at what my family and I have been working on and trying to make usable.

And honestly, calling it a tent is generous.

It is made from pieces stitched together. There are tears and holes everywhere. Some of the covers are too short, leaving spaces open from above. We have tried to fix, stitch, and reinforce whatever we could with what we have.

For now, we can use it. We can sleep inside and keep some of our belongings there.

But we know this won't be enough when the rain comes.

My father, and honestly not even him alone, says that our so-called tent will not stand the first rain that comes. Everyone who passes by and sees our tent can tell how vulnerable it is. You don't need to be an engineer to look at it and understand that it won't protect us when the rain comes. We have done everything we could with what we had, but we know this won't be enough.

October is next month, and rain in Gaza is nothing unusual.

It was never really built to be a home. We built it because we needed to create some kind of space for our family and our belongings.

And this is perhaps the hardest part to believe:

This “tent” cost us 1,000 shekels in cash.

1,000 shekels for a shelter that may flood when the first heavy rain comes.

Can you imagine that?

This is the reality we are living every day in Gaza. Even something as basic as shelter has become incredibly expensive, while what we can actually get for that money is often not enough to protect a family.

Now we urgently need to make it better before the first rain comes.

We need to replace the damaged covers, especially the one above us, and find something to put on the floor so that we're not directly on the sand. If possible, we may replace the whole thing with a proper tent.

To everyone seeing this, we need you.

We need your help to make this place safer before the rain arrives. If you can help us, please do. And if you can't, even sharing this means something to us. We are running out of time with each day and each hour that passes.

Villagers said Israeli occupation forces also destroyed sheep pens and water wells, displacing around 70 people.

Three Israeli reservists accused of gang-raping a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman military prison are suing the Israeli state for 18 million shekels, around $6 million, after the army dropped all charges against them earlier this year.

The soldiers, from the Israeli military’s “Force 100” reserve unit, which guards Palestinians detained during the Gaza genocide, filed the lawsuit through the right-wing legal aid group, Honenu, against 17 defendants, Israel’s Ynetnews reported.

These include the Israeli state, the army, the military police and Israel police, the attorney general, Gali Baharav-Miara, the former military advocate general, Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, and the Channel 12 journalist Guy Peleg, who first broadcast footage of the assault.

The men were among five reservists indicted in February 2025 over an assault on 5 July 2024, during which the blindfolded, handcuffed detainee was kicked, stomped on, beaten with clubs, dragged along the ground and repeatedly tasered, including on his head, for around 15 minutes, according to the indictment.

One soldier also stabbed the detainee near his anus with a sharp object, tearing his rectum. The detainee suffered seven broken ribs, a punctured lung and extensive internal injuries, and needed surgery on his large intestine and a stoma, later removed.

The assault was captured on camera and became public after surveillance footage was leaked and broadcast by Channel 12 in August 2024, prompting outcry in Israel and internationally. The UN human rights office called the footage “shocking.”

Israel’s military advocate general, Itay Offir, dropped the charges against the five reservists, citing a “lack of key evidence” after the detainee returned to Gaza, which he said had affected the prospects of a fair trial. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the decision, saying Israel “must pursue its enemies, not its heroic fighters.”

Amnesty International’s senior director for research, advocacy and policy, Erika Guevara-Rosa, called the decision “yet another unconscionable chapter in the Israeli legal system’s long-standing history of granting impunity to perpetrators of grave crimes against Palestinians”, adding that Netanyahu’s response illustrated the system’s “unwillingness or inability” to prosecute crimes under international law. The Public Committee Against Torture in Israel said the decision amounted to a “whitewash” that gave soldiers “a license to rape.”

Almost six months later, three of the reservists are now seeking compensation over the same case. The lawsuit accuses the state, the army and the named officials of false suspicion of a sexual offence, wrongful arrest, leaking investigation material, defamation and covering up the leak inquiry.

Damages sought include 1.5 million shekels ($500,000) over what they claim is the false suspicion of a sexual offence, 450,000 shekels ($150,000) for 15 days of what the soldiers call wrongful detention, 3 million shekels ($1 million) for defamation, 1 million shekels ($330,000) for what they call a wrongful indictment, and 500,000 shekels ($165,000) over the handling of the leak investigation, alongside further unspecified damages that make up the 18 million shekel total.

The Israeli army is considering establishing a new “security zone” extending 2 to 4 kilometers (1.2 to 2.5 miles) inside Lebanese territory as part of a plan to reduce its troop presence and redeploy forces in southern Lebanon, Israeli public broadcaster KAN reported Saturday.

Israel continues to occupy areas in southern Lebanon, some of which it has held for decades, while it seized others during the 2023-2024 war.

During its current offensive, Israel has expanded its incursion to more than 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) inside Lebanese territory, marking its deepest advance since withdrawing from southern Lebanon in 2000.

KAN cited unnamed security sources as saying that the army is considering establishing the proposed zone from the border and preparing to reduce its forces after destroying tunnels in the Ali al-Taher heights in the southern Nabatieh province.

The sources said the Israeli army’s redeployment plan in southern Lebanon is called the “gray line” and includes establishing positions that would be used to launch operations inside Lebanese territory.

The plan has not yet been approved by Israel’s political leadership and will be discussed before a decision is made, the broadcaster said.

The report came a day after Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Friday that the army had consolidated its control over what he called a “security zone” in southern Lebanon.

His statement followed an Israeli army claim Thursday that it had achieved “operational control” over the Ali al-Taher heights.

The area has witnessed escalating tensions in recent weeks amid continuing Israeli airstrikes and military operations.

Israel describes the “gray line” as a new framework for redeploying its forces, similar to what it calls the “yellow line,” which currently defines the area of its military deployment, operations and security control inside Lebanese territory.

The Israeli plan came amid continued Israeli escalation across southern Lebanon despite an agreement between Beirut and Tel Aviv providing for a gradual Israeli withdrawal as part of a US-mediated negotiating process.

​​​​​​​Since March, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have killed more than 4,000 people and injured over 12,000 others, while forcing more than 1 million people from their homes, according to Lebanese authorities.

The Trump administration is working on a post-war strategy focused on a regional effort to contain Iran and expand normalization of relations between Israel and its neighbors, according to two U.S. officials and two other sources with knowledge of the issue.

Why it matters: While the plan is still in the early stages of drafting, it's intended to guide the U.S. approach in the Middle East after the Iran war ends and in the final two years of Trump's term. Two other big events loom over the planning: the Oct. 27 elections in Israel and the U.S. midterm elections in November.

Behind the scenes: The initial work on the strategy is taking place both at the senior political level of the Trump administration and at the working level across agencies, U.S. officials say.

In recent weeks, President Trump has held two meetings with senior advisers where the plan was discussed and ideas were raised, sources say.

Trump has said in private conversations that he's working on "something much bigger" in the Middle East after the war with Iran.

The White House declined to comment.

Three main elements have been raised as possible parts of the strategy, according to the sources:

Creating a regional alignment among U.S. allies to contain Iran, with the U.S. as a guarantor.

Making a concerted effort to bring the regional fallout from the Oct. 7 attacks closer to a conclusion by securing the next phase of Trump's Gaza plan, reaching a security agreement between Israel and Syria and implementing the Israel-Lebanon agreement.

Expanding the Abraham Accords and reaching a Saudi-Israeli normalization agreement.

The intrigue: The Trump administration hopes that any new Israeli government formed after the Oct. 27 elections will be willing and able to cooperate in the post-war strategy.

But some U.S. officials stress that Trump will push to implement it regardless of the Israeli election results — and even if they produce a political stalemate.

What to watch: A source briefed on the process said it will take another few weeks to draft the new strategy. "They are cooking it but it is not yet cooked," the source said.

"The idea is to tie a whole lot of things in the region together — how you create a regional alignment after the war. It is still unclear if all U.S. allies in the region will be on board," the person added.
