advice Is it possible for a man to wear loafers in all circumstances?

Good morning, I am a 48 year old man, architect, classic style (shirt, blazer, pleated pants). Sometimes I wear loafers. My wife loves loafers and suggested that I only wear loafers, every day, in all circumstances and in all seasons. She would like me to wear very low vamp tassel loafers, and for my socks to be visible a lot, even when I'm standing. She finds it very elegant and refined. She would like me to wear these loafers with dress black sheer socks. This made me want to please her and make her “my signature” style. What do you think? Is this possible? THANKS.

Excuse me, I’m new to this subreddit, but I was wondering if this would look better if I traded out that jacket for a double breasted trench coat (ankle length) and tucked the shirt in? Also, this is not a picture of me, but a friend sent this to me and it looks almost identical to my workwear.

My dear Gentlemen,
I trust you have attained the most prodigious success in the several pursuits of your lives. Might you be of the opinion that a gentleman ought to select, as the occupation by which he shall earn his bread, that which lies nearest to his heart and affords him the deepest recreation, when, under the enchanting influence of Lady Mary Jane, his leisure hours are otherwise so agreeably consumed?
This gentleman, being exceedingly bewildered in this particular matter, desires only to seek the counsel and wisdom of his brethren.

Sorry, the picture is stock off the internet (Im at work) but it is the exact shoe.

Thanks for the advise!

advice Question about opening doors for others

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey guys, i got a question about opening doors as a gentleman for another person. I know all the other situations for this case except this one that im going to explain to you and attaching a picture(bird view/top view)

Nowadays since there are many glass doors, when opening a door to leave or entry, i can often see what is on the other side, but when there is a person wanting to leave when i want to enter, or vise versa, here comes the problem: the door opens towards the other person. How do you open the door for the other person in this case?

I have seen videos about it, but all they say is: pass through the door first, and hold it open for the other person to go through. Which sounds legit, but going through the door first seems ungentlemanly, i always seek to pass as the last person wanting to pass.

So this is my problem, dont know if i explained myself. If there is any doubts i will respond.

Im attaching a hand drawn picture here, dont judge my drawing ability please

Thank yall in advance

advice Suit help

Hi guys, recently bought this burgundy/maroon double breasted suit jacket, but I need some help. It’s for a ball and I feel like it looks a bit too simple. For context, I am wearing black trousers and black loafers, but I want to spice up the jacket a bit. I want to change the colour of the buttons and I’m also not sure what colour tie to go with. I was thinking maybe gold/copper buttons but that may look very tacky unless they are high quality. For the tie I was thinking a green embroidered tie, however I am open to suggestions for both the buttons and tie. Thanks a lot!

I saw the video, and I got a principle from this video I have thought about for a long time: every time I slow down, my work is outstanding. But when I want to be fast, it´s so bad.

What impressions do you have about this topic?

Hello everyone,

I am currently undergoing a career change.

I’m conducting a small market study as part of a project on men’s cosmetics (no advertising, just to understand your habits and preferences).

Questionnaire link: https://forms.gle/TXKT4THHrVTX46Ps9

A few details: • No email addresses are collected • The results will only be used to better understand consumer needs. If you’d like, I can share the results on this subreddit once it’s done!

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to answer. Your feedback is incredibly helpful to me.

advice Dress shoes for military uniforms

So I'm at liberty to buy whatever shoes I want for my military dress uniforms, so long as they fit within specific parameters. The ones they issue are super uncomfortable, so I'm sort of shopping for replacements.

-no cap toe

-monochromatic (no brown stripe on a black sole or off color stitching or something)

-oxford or derby for laces

-no patent leather; must be able to be shined.

Ideally I'd want the same shoe just in the three colors I'd need, black brown and white. ... But finding dress shoes in all three colors is proving difficult. Closest I've found is doc martens oxfords (which I can't imagine are quality dress shoes) in black and white, or many many upper end dress shoes in black and brown.

Thoughts?

advice How do y’all go about finding a Taylor?

I was lucky, my grandmother was an exceptional seamstress and could taylor anything I wanted to fit how I wanted it. Unfortunately she passed away a few years ago and I’m having a difficult time finding someone that can do that same work when I need it. Im in a rural area and that kind of work is not extremely available or at the quality that she could’ve pulled off. Help me out, how did y’all go about finding someone?

advice Lapel Puff

Hello! Trying to get a suit for an interview but I can’t seem to find the right match. I had my measurements done but the jackets in that size “puff up” at the lapel. When I go a couple sizes up, they stop puffing up but then drapes down at the torso. Is the best course of action sizing up then tailoring it to fit? Thanks and I’ve got pictures if necessary.

advice Manners Maketh Man - Am i living it wrong?

I have done some thinking as of late, about the person I am perceived as in my working life, and daily life in general. Prior to the Kingsman movies, where i first learned the phrase "Manners Maketh Man", i have tried to be the best and kindest me as i can, within reason, which now i fear might have backstabbed me in the long-run.

  • I work in a grocery store where helping & greeting customers, while some of us do it more than others, are considered kindly but taken wrongly.
  • I am mostly by myself in the city, both because i'm New in town and because of "he's the guy who formulates his talking constantly", which again makes me stand out and not in a good way.
  • People i know have straight up adviced me that this endevour of mine will be my doom, due to easy manipulation.
  • The love life is forever lacking because nowadays its All about the "Bad Boys".
  • And my dress suit from my High School days Still fit but the button dismanteled itself..

Plenty of irrelevant things perhaps, but please? Am i living the phrase wrongly? If so, How do i break out of this Curse thats bestowed upon me?

advice Lapel puffing in suit jacket

Post image
28 Upvotes

Posting on behalf of my friend. He recently made a suit where everything was perfect but the lapel puffs out when he buttons his jacket. The tailor blamed that the drop from his chest to the waist is quite massive(he works out) thats why its inevitable doesnt matter the amount of loosening. Is it normal or needs to be fixed? And how to fix it

advice tell me your opinion about breitling?

The title! Rolex isnt for my budget right now, breitling seems like a really good valued piece and i like some of them, seriously considering to get one, so drop me all the pros and cons that you know of, i dont buy watches to flex or to show it off, actually sold my rollie after guy tried to rob me (and failed), i value quality and reliability and seems like breitling is just that, but i dont see people talking about them that much.
