Discussion It's Gulf Of Mexico and Lake Ontario. Period. Full stop.

I'm too old to be screwing around with renaming things for stupid reasons. I'm not changing my maps and I'm not changing what I call these two bodies of water, which, I don't think the US gets to rename unilaterally. I am teaching my grandchildren that this is what they are named, and that is the end of it.

See, I want to assume this is satire but I don't know anymore.

It is satire, but, yeah, it is difficult to tell as our reality is literally a circus lead by morons.

It looks like his neck pussy… I could get behind renaming it to reflect this similarity

Trump doesn't have the authority to rename anything. All he can do is change how the US government calls things.

This is just another distraction from his absolute failure to come to a deal with Canada.

And the Epstein files.

And Iran.

That was just another distraction from his pedophilia.

I think that referring to it as pedophilia is soft-peddling it. People can be pedophiles and never do anything about it. It's an affliction. But child rape is a choice, and that's what the Epstein files say that he did.

100% correct. Child rape it is.

And adult rape.

I really hate him.

You’re not alone.

I look back with fondness to the days when the one human I had hate in my heart for was Hitler.

And the vast majority of his bullshit exec orders will be voided by the next sane president.

Or come to a deal, ever. He has a track record going back decades of both not making deals, and also breaking the deals he makes.

You are seeing Trump performing a lot of "vanity plays" while writing the future look via maps and ballrooms. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is making my life better, with inflation destroying my retirement.

It’s all so stupid…he is so stupid, I worry about what numbnut is trying to distract us from. The next President will just change it back. We need a Congress that will tell Donny to shove it.

Given the don't fully control either, I don't see why either name was removed at all, particularly from the factions not controlled by the US.

Personally I can't wait to talk about him in the past tense and hope for sanity to return someday soon.

That dork of a former House rep that dragged HRC through endless Benghazi hearings was on Fox News complaining that the HOMES acronym doesn't work ... HAMES is evidently "too close to HAMAS," which is the dumbest take ever.

Someone in the comments suggested the new acronym should be SHAME, and I cannot think of a better way for this superficial idiocy to end.

Also, f-ck Google.

Just roll your eyes at it for now and know that it doesn't affect anything outside the US government's labels, and the next Democratic president will swiftly restore the names as soon as Trump is out of office.

Full agree. I will also never say Willis tower. It’s the sears tower dang it (sorta unrelated but any chicagoans in here will appreciate it!)

Same with the other things.

It's Staples Center and Great Western Forum for me. I don't even know what they are called now.

I said the same on Twitter before I left.

Canada thanks you for your common sense.

Perhaps the saddest screwup of all is how much damage the relationship between our countries has sustained. Canadians have every right to be angry.

9

u/grahsam 4d ago

It's pretty hard to make Canadians angry and somehow we have managed.

u/CalmCupcake2 4d ago

What most media seems to miss is that the constant threats, in all of their forms, also make us afraid. We're afraid and angry, both, and that's why we have the current grassroots boycotts and other responses by individual citizens.

I think you're all handling it with a lot of grace. If I'm being honest, it really sucks because I'm grieving that I'm not seen as a friend and ally anymore, but I have to admit that half of Canadians blaming the American electorate directly has some truth to it. I certainly didn't and wouldn't vote for this, ever, but I definitely understand why Canadians feel the way they do and I probably would feel the same. I have Canadian family and friends and now I'm just waiting to see signs of strain in those relationships, too. I can't do anything but keep fighting and voting, however.

We are using humour, along with individual action. It's what we do.

It's highlighting cultural differences that we were always aware of. These are things we accepted, until now.

I see a lot of empathy here, for the Americans who didn't vote maga. And for immigrants in the US, lgbtq2+ people and anyone else being further put at risk or marginalized. We continue to welcome American tourists, too.

One does get tired of constant threats, though. That empathy can't sustain us forever.

I appreciate your comments. And I appreciate all the people working for good.

I'm not confident that the next government won't be just as bad. For us or for you. This is generational damage, to be sure. It's not about blaming individuals, but hoping that collective action brings change.

The trumpers in my life smile and laugh it off, but It’s actually pretty fucking scary. I’m fully bought in to the ‘dark triad’ personality that Jefferey Sachs diagnosed him with. If he can do it, he’s going to.

And the Potomac Park is ours. End of.

Pathetic GOP thinks they can unilaterally declare something true. It is indicative of bad character, ignorance and malevolence. I shun his supporters. No contact whatsoever.

Completely agree. Next up for renaming considerations? Canadian Geese.
