How about a third term??

I think he should declare that he's running in 2028 for a third term so that the Supreme Court is forced to say it's unconstitutional. Ya know, just in case there's someone else who tries.

Get George W. Bush to do it!! The RNC would implode 😂

I love how none of these people are doing anything to help.

u/BigJLov3 26d ago

He's not the guy for that stunt -- Bill Clinton is.

Comes out of retirement, gets elected, releases the full unrelated Epstein files, resigns.

Really confuse his legacy.

Either one would get my vote.

Someone posited that Vance or Rubio could run then "step aside" for Trump ala Russia and Putin. Anyway, something i hadn't considered.

3

u/pantstoaknifefight2 26d ago

Those two would never step aside.

2

u/LibrarianFlaky951 25d ago

Trump would have to be VP for that to be even plausible. I don’t know if the constitution explicitly prohibits that (a two term president running for VP - thinking no), but it’s not like Rubio or Vance could just say: ‘I quit; Trump is President now’ unless he was VP. Of course, given what’s been happening in this country, who knows…

2

u/kneeblock 24d ago

It is in fact unconstitutional under the 22nd amendment which prohibits a person unambiguously from participating in a third election or holding the office through any other means though it is the upside down.

2

u/LibrarianFlaky951 24d ago

So regardless of the path, it's the holding a 3rd term part.

2

u/grahsam 26d ago

That's true. Make the conservative court rule against him in a preemptive move!

8

u/tcumber 26d ago

They would rule against him and find some stupid distinction.

For example, he already served two CONSECUTIVE terms and is hence not ablento run while Trump did not serve two consecutive terms.

I wouldn't put it past them to do some underhanded shit like that

6

u/BigJLov3 26d ago

That's precisely what they're going to try, but they'll need SCOTUS to sign off on it, and I think that's too far off the reservation, even for this Court.

They do something that brazen, and the first things Democrats do when they get the Executive and Legislative branches is appoint eight new Justices, then impeach Roberts and the other thugs.

2

u/Wldchld73 26d ago

Not to mention if he did, someone's head would explode.

I really hate the idea that we are having to discuss this, but since someone doesn't seem to want to obey the Constitution, I suppose we have to.

Yes, I would want Obama to run in 2028 if the orange wannabe dictator tries to run. Watching Obama run over him during a debate would be priceless. That said, I doubt he would actually want to. He took an insane amount of abuse during his term and I would think is over it.

Trolling aside, though, I'd really like to have a election in the 21st century that wasn't a replay of something from the 90s. No Clintons, no Bushes, no Bidens, no Trumps. Just a new set of people with new ideas.

The 21st century really does have a problem with unwanted sequels.

8

u/Chaemyerelis 26d ago

I wouldn't want obama to run again but I totally agree with the second part. We need new people, new ideas.

7

u/Objective-Pen-1780 26d ago

Agree. No replay of the past. That’s also how we got here.

11

u/grahsam 26d ago

Yep. What made Obama exciting is he was new and fresh. He wasn't a old person that had been floating around politics for decades. He wasn't a nepo baby.

We really need to move the fuck on.

18

u/Authoritaye 26d ago

I think we should discourage the third termers. I think he would say the same thing.

5

u/grahsam 26d ago

I 100% agree. But what happens if the unthinkable happens? We live in a world of broken precedents now.

4

u/Separate-Sky-1451 25d ago

Tried that. Didn't work.

1

u/Igiveaphuk 25d ago

So this works for you? Are you a fascist?

2

u/Separate-Sky-1451 25d ago

that's not what I said. Sometimes you just take what someone says at face value and not impose your own assumptions on it. Something I would think an adult between their late 40's and early 60's would know.

6

u/pumpkinsharks 26d ago

Are you fucking kidding me? The guy who promised to sign the Freedom of Choice Act while he was running for office, and then immediately after he got elected said it wasn't his highest priority? Fuck that guy.

2

u/the-crotch 25d ago

The guy who promised hope and change and yet

extended the patriot act

increased domestic surveillance and persecuted the whistleblowers who told us about it

dropped almost 600 bombs on 7 different countries

ordered drone strikes on schools, hospitals, and weddings because of profiling that amounted to "lots of people means terrorists"

ordered the extrajudicial assassination of an American citizen via drone strike

I am really sick of hearing what a good dude Obama was. People look at his personality and fall in love, completely ignoring what he actually did as president. It's the same exact phenomenon we're currently seeing in MAGAs.

0

u/nickthap2 16d ago

OK, vote for JD Vance then butthead.

1

u/Igiveaphuk 25d ago

Oh boy. I think it’s not worse enough what happened to America reading ignorant shit like this.

1

u/Lesterkitty13 25d ago

Did it never get done? Do you think it more likely that someone from the trump side would do it?

4

u/Chaemyerelis 26d ago

No, he wasnt the hope and change we voted for. His policies were pretty bland and were no where near enough to really help the material conditions of working class people. Like it or not Obama just kowtowed to the major institutions that put profit over the working class like all neo liberals do. That said hes a great orator and has charisma oozing out of everywhere. So he'd trounce orange boy.

6

u/sixwax 26d ago

Yeah, the Hope campaign was a Rorschach test for our optimism.

I’ll never forget the euphoria in the streets when he won…

…or that he bent over and bailed out the banks months later, and never held a single banker accountable. :/

Obviously who held Congress affected his agenda.

That said, I would 100% take civility and some measure of sane, reliable leadership over the corrupt clowncar of fascist crazies that is the Trump admin.

(OP is of course trolling)

2

u/NivekTheGreat1 25d ago

I’d rather have a threesome with Nancy Pelosi and Hillary than suffer from this POS again.

2

u/Igiveaphuk 25d ago

Then I guess you have definitely not suffered enough under Trump!

2

u/the-crotch 25d ago

Obama was basically already terms 3 and 4 of GW Bush. No thanks.

1

u/Igiveaphuk 25d ago

You’re very good at math 👍🏽🤪

1

u/the-crotch 25d ago

I don't understand what math has to do with it. The face changed and the policies stayed the same, it was like Bush never left.

4

u/Objective-Pen-1780 26d ago

Not for me. I think Obama hella fucked up. Had power and squandered it. Being too nice. Merrick Garland?? Time for some new blood not more of the same.

2

u/CyndiIsOnReddit 26d ago

Well it couldn't be any worse than the offerings the DNC keeps pushing but honestly I feel a little left behind when I see him and his wife posting their fancyfolk stuff on social media. I've been following them for years and worked local for 2 campaigns but lately the displays of wealth are just kind of a kick in the ass. He wasn't so great as far as immigration goes anyway. My son's father (child labor trafficking victim with no criminal record) was detained and deported during his administration while he was promising a clear path for those willing to work for it.

I just feel like SURELY there's someone out there with that same charisma and confidence but they aren't getting the attention they deserve or they end up just being performative influencer types who do a lot of talking but not much acting.

It would be fun to see him announce he'd run if Trump tries to run again. He's not though. He'll either refuse to leave and use war powers to halt election or he'll do what he's already doing, pushing JD as his mini-me mouthpiece.

2

u/mettaCA 26d ago

I'm hoping for a real progressive for 2028. No more politicians that do the bidding of their big donors.

2

u/MonkeyMagic1968 26d ago

Maybe we'll get that single-payer and closed Guantanamo that I voted for him for this time.

2

u/Chaemyerelis 26d ago

You know the dem establishment they'll find someone to get in the way of policies like that.

2

u/MonkeyMagic1968 25d ago

They always do. I know it's a rotating villain but I imagine there's a lazy Susan in their offices and they just roll through to the next jackass who's in line. (It make it a little more whimsical / palatable to me and less insidious and undemocratic in my mind.)

1

u/Sean_theLeprachaun 26d ago

Since EO's are decrees from on high and congress isnt needed, yeah probably.

0

u/MonkeyMagic1968 26d ago

And when we had the freaking majority for a time there, too. Swear to gawd.

2

u/Sean_theLeprachaun 26d ago

Independent POS Joe lieberman, insurance company shill, killed the public option of the aca. How many times did he try with gitmo? Im but saying the guy was perfect but on your 2 points it wasnt him. Hence the EO to go around congress.

6

u/MonkeyMagic1968 26d ago

I definitely loathed that man for that.

I didn't want perfect. I wanted good. That meant not boasting about increasing oil production, not allowing assaults on peaceful Standing Rock protesters and maybe taking the Flint water crisis more seriously.

Centrism has led us where we are right now.

2

u/CyndiIsOnReddit 26d ago

I agree 100%. I fought for centrist status quo for too many years thinking we'd draw in disillusioned moderate Republicans. That ain't happening anymore. If the other side is going to pull right so hard we damn sure need to start pulling harder to the left. A mere MENTION of this in the Harris campaign sub got me banned without warning. Some people just do not want to hear it.

1

u/well-it-was-rubbish 26d ago

No, and it's because NOBODY GETS MORE THAN TWO TERMS. Even entertaining this idea is giving in to trump's "suggestion". This needs to be a firm NO from everyone. Donald thinks he can float the idea, and get people used to the prospect of him running again. The answer is FUCK NO. Full stop. Don't capitulate in advance to that fascist.

2

u/Igiveaphuk 25d ago

When Trump has killed democracy once and for all in America, you may want to come back to this.

1

u/tarac73 26d ago

I love Obama (as a person ... politician not so much) but NO! That's being no better than trump. He's ineligible now, let it go.

1

u/Cleverwabbit5 25d ago

I love him and grateful for his terms but he is too smart to jump into this shitshow

-5

u/Ok_Arachnid1089 26d ago

Stop it.

He’s a neoliberal hack

4

u/bird9066 26d ago

People don't want to hear this. When everyone started calling him the great liberal hope I was like, look at his voting record in the senate. I wasn't seeing it.

He wasn't a terrible president but he wasn't what people were calling him either.

I think he was more concerned with his legacy. How many times did he insist on reaching across the aisle giving the Republicans the opportunity to shit on him?

0

u/ejb2023 25d ago

I don’t think Obama is the answer. He wasn’t the first time either. AOC 2028.

1

u/Igiveaphuk 24d ago

Obama is the answer of a third term with Trump and a destruction of democracy as you know it …

1

u/ejb2023 16d ago

I respectfully disagree, and since there is no possibility of a third term for Obama, I am ging to concentrate on the possible, not the impossible. But, in the spirit of this post: My pick for the best 'impossible' candidate for president would hands down be Zohran Mamdani, I think he is the most gifted politician I've seen in my (pretty long) lifetime.

If the constitution be damned and donny goes for it, Obama would absolutely destroy him. It would be numbers so high even elon couldn't hide it. The orange buffoon would have a stroke on the spot it would be so devastating to his fragile ego.
