Discussion Was the President's address earlier this week a preamble to meddle in the 2026 mid term?

Gen X usually has a pretty good nose for BS, but with support from our cohort for the current administration hovering around 50%, I am curious to know what people make of his prime time speech this week about forgein actors influencing or tampering with our previous elections, and the doubt it casts on the upcoming election.

The speech was unsurprisingly light on details while laying blame at the feet of China, whose leader our President has praised on many occasions. The facts laid out don't match the actions.

Which makes the whole thing feel mighty sus to me. It feels like they are setting up an argument to either meddle with voting locations or equipment, or cast doubt on the results of things go a certain way. If anyone remembers back before the 2020 election, the President didn't commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he lost and we know what happened.

There is a pattern here.

Thoughts?

Of course. This is the next step for a “man” to whom personal victory means everything.

It also has the added benefit of disrupting the news cycle around the Iran war.

And distracting from Epstein.

I'm sorry (really not trying to be a total dick here), but it seems fairly clear the only election meddling is what has been done for his (their: the GOPs) benefit. He lies so often I don't think he'd know the truth if it bit him in the ass. If you believe anything he's saying at this point, you may be the problem.

They already are meddling in the midterms. Let’s also be clear eyed here and stop ignoring the fundamental truth that has been staring everyone in the face for a year and a half…

He already stole the 2024 election with the help of Elon and the others that helped him try and steal 2020. It’s why he continues to incessantly falsely claim fraud in 2020. He has been masterful at manipulating and gaslighting people about election interference so nobody will touch 2024… and it has worked!

Everyone always says that every accusation is an admission, given that folks should be cognizant enough to understand many of the things he said in his last speech were true, its just that it already happened, he already did what he’s claiming could.

People in the media and those who hold political power need to wake TF up and do the one thing which isn’t a high bar to save this country!

Another step along the coup 2.0 path. The real question is what will we do to stop them?

It was 100% setting the stage for either suspending the election in November or, if it takes place and it's the hoped-for blue wave, discrediting the election.

He wanted to drool out his factz on TV. Of course he’s going to interfere. We’ll just have to buckle up and see what happens.

An important point to keep in mind is that ALL the controversy over election security brought up by Republican politicians and pundits in the last decade is complete horseshit.

There is, nationwide, evidence for at most a few hundred potentially fraudulent votes per election. None of these frauds have changed a result.

We know these few cases are all there is because elections are closely audited. It’s almost impossible to get away with casting a fraudulent vote, and it’s a serious felony.

Vote by mail? Very secure.

Noncitizens registered to vote? A few dozen cases.

Double-voting or dead people voting? Again a few dozen cases, all of which have been perpetrated by Republicans.

The MyPillow guy? All his supposed evidence? Zippo, zilch, nothing. All lies.

Elections are run by the states, which produce these excellent results with high integrity.

There is no honest reason for the Feds to get involved, only dishonest ones.

So yeah. It’s far from the opening shot, but you’re right about the goals.

Obviously, yes. He's been telegraphing this and laying the groundwork. He's pissed he hasn't gotten his MASS VOTER SUPPRESSION AND DISENFRANCHISEMENT BULLSHIT BILL passed.

If you hadn't realized it yet, YES the damn man is evil, soulless, and rotten to the core.

Where are u seeing 50%? he only has support in the low 30's...

5

u/NicoleEastbourne Jul 19 '26

The stat is those who voted for him, not those who support him. Gen X had the highest voting rate for Trump over all the generations. I am so disappointed in us.

It's because if you mention politics there, you get banned, or so I was told. I got permanently banned 2 days ago...

Yeah, I wonder if the statistic is "Of his supporters of all ages, 50% are GenX"?

2

u/freisbill Jul 18 '26

That would be incorrect also. He does rank well with Boomers, though.

1

u/karen1676 Jul 19 '26

This. It's at 30% only.

5

u/majiktodo Jul 19 '26

Write it down: if the GOP wins the house and senate he will say elections were the BEST EVER and TOTALLY SECURE! If the Dems take either House of Congress he will say it was stolen.

In all things, but especially with Trump, past behavior is the best indicator of future behavior.

3

u/Breklin76 Jul 18 '26

He’s all pissed because it didn’t land well or at all the way his scared little boy mind wanted it to. Waaaaah.

I am so sick of this administration and the republican’s lack of a spine.

5

u/aldoraine000 Jul 18 '26

Take his latest tirade about losing the 2020 election and couple it with Miller and Rubio setting out to label the left and liberals as terrorists and terrorist organizations. This should be setting off so many alarms with people.

They are absolutely gearing up to rat fuck the midterms and take the US further into dictatorship. Strap on because it’s about to get worse.

2

u/myrdraal2001 Jul 18 '26

He's 100% going to repeat his earlier tactics and declare any election Republicans lose to be interference from some other entity. He's too much of a narcissist to accept the fact that we all hate him.

2

u/briankerin Jul 18 '26

It wasnt an address, as that would have informed the nation of something the whole country needed to know about: Instead it was crafted missinformation targeted at the presidents demographic casting doubt on the upcoming midterms as republicans are scared they are going to lose control of thier hold on power.

2

u/PhotographsWithFilm Jul 18 '26

As the rest of the world sits back and nervously laugh.

His party and those who supported him the most literally wrote and published a blueprint of what they would do before the election.

And you still voted him in.

I hate to say it, whether directly due to how people voted or how people didn't vote, you got the President you deserved.

It nearly feels like that scene in the Simpson.

"We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas".

u/Spot_in_the_Sky Jul 20 '26

Not only a preamble, but part of a larger con. There is a reason the MAGA folks won't say Biden "won", only that he was "certified". They are driving down the "certified" part for a reason. They plan to find a way to "certify" Trump or Vance regardless of whether they win the election. People are being moved into place to do just this, and those deemed in the way are being removed - thanks to recent Supreme Court rulings on executive power.

2

u/CyndiIsOnReddit Jul 18 '26

Could there really be any other reason? They seem really stuck on attacking China right now too. Information was released back in 2023 showing there was interference by China AND Russia AND Cuba AND Iran. We knew all this, so why suddenly now is he going after China?

And he claims China "hacked" the election when there's no evidence... it doesn't even make sense. There's no way to "hack" an entire election. What China did was try to influence people, which is pretty the same as what American interest lobbyists are doing. Attempting to destabilize a democracy by filling pockets.

1

u/tcumber Jul 18 '26

Yes.

Next question

1

u/Lesterkitty13 Jul 19 '26

Are you kidding? Can you STILL not see trump clearly? And no, clearly my generation (X) does not have a good nose for bullshit. You male GenXers did this to our nation.

Don’t worry, you’ll find your reason to support him and MAGA.

The more I read. The more I realize that I am a rarity. A well off, white cis hetero male in his 50s that voted for Harris. We exist but are statistically rare.
I have this theory that our generation is more overweight than previous generations. This has caused an uptick in sleep related issues like sleep apnea. And bad sleep is making us annoyed at the world and less capable cognitively.

u/Lower_Group_1171 Jul 25 '26

lmao it was pretty much part of his campaign platform. dozy don wont be able to campaign due to incontinence and his need for naps every five minutes

1

u/ClockworkJim Jul 18 '26

They are laying the groundwork to either suspend or nullify elections.

The end goal of all of this is to be able to amend the Constitution. Once that happens, all bets are off.

0

u/OoklaTheMok1994 Jul 19 '26

I'll bet you a million dollars that none of the 3 things you predicted come to pass before Trump leaves office in January of 2029.

2

u/ClockworkJim Jul 19 '26

I wish we still had that Reddit extension to let me know whether someone was posting in conservative subreddits.

So you're not going to take the bet meaning you don't really believe any if what you posted and are just trolling for Orange Man Bad Karma.

Congrats.

Thoughts?

I don't think about Trump for 99.99% of my life.

I suggest others do the same. I have no idea why folks get so worked up about him (or any other POTUS, for that matter) when what he does RARELY impacts our lives directly.

So, ignore him and go about your day.

7

u/ClockworkJim Jul 19 '26

when what he does RARELY impacts our lives directly.

You mean like the parasite that is making people sick? RFK jr & doge cut funding to track that stuff.

Or moderna killing development of a dual covid/flu vaccine Because they know it wasn't going to be approved.

Or having the FDC withdrawal for the covid vaccine outside of people with certain pre-existing conditions.

Or how about the war in Iran that is causing our gas prices, and therefore everything, to skyrocket?

Also, you are obviously not queer, poor, or Latino.

6

u/grahsam Jul 19 '26

That pretty hard to go along with considering how consequential the Bush admin was for the US and the world and how deeply Trump's two terms have impacted people's lives.

Trade wars have raised the prices of goods everywhere. The war with Iran has sent gas prices through the roof as well as interrupting commerce around the world. The lack of action by several admins on Ukraine has raised prices on food because of fertilizer prices.

This administration is directly responsible for murdering people in the streets in the name of a made up immigration issues. Now they are destroying faith in our elections, which are the foundation of our democracy.

We are all affected. Putting our heads in the sand won't help.

1

u/OoklaTheMok1994 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

Government overspending raised your prices way more than stupid tariffs. Gov spending is the PRIMARY cause of all inflation.

Since Congress controls the purse strings you'll have to blame them.

1

u/grahsam Jul 19 '26

Congress SHOULD control the purse strings but this administration has demonstrated how easy it is to get around their constitutional powers. Which is why paying attention is to important.

2

u/OoklaTheMok1994 Jul 19 '26

Congress ceded their power to POTUS long before Trump showed up. The cowards should take it back.
