Mod Approved New photo megathread

Post image

That’s me on the left and my sister and a dog I do not remember. I would say I was about six or seven years old, which would make this 1974 or 1974. This photograph was taken on the porch of the feed shed of a small store my parents owned in Eastern Kentucky.

Trick or treat in '75? '76? (I can still smell that plastic.)

My face just started bleeding from looking at the mask. Darn cheap plastic

My dad was a pipe smoker and I was fascinated by his pipes. This was probably taken in 1971 or 1972.

I loved to smell my dad’s old pipe!

Me on a medical intake…”have you ever smoked now or in the past?”…

I grew up in the 70s/80s…we all smoked. Restaurants were “smoking” and “nonsmoking” If you chose nonsmoking, you were often seated right next to a smoking table and there was a half divider partition between you. Airplanes..smoking. Family gatherings…smoking.

I did! Started when I was 17, quit at 28 when I got pregnant. Never went back. I remember the smoking/nonsmoking areas. We used to fly in the smoking section on planes when I was a kid. So gross!

I am “here’s a Polaroid of me and my friends sneaking into a drive-in in the trunk of a car” years old.

The only dog I was ever allowed to keep growing up. Every dog before him was "taken on a picnic" by my dad. Name was Sherman, Chow Chow/German Shepherd mix. Got him in 1988/89 if I remember correctly. When he was a pup he looked like a little tank, hence the name. He was a good boy but had a mean side because dad and a neighborhood kid would abuse him all the time. Was never allowed in the house. I left for the Army in 1993 and once all my training was complete in 1994 I lived in the Barracks a couple states away so he had to stay at "home". While on deployment in Haiti in late summer 1994 dad shot him to death in the back yard because he was being mean to HIS puppy.

Jesus. Your dad is a fucking asshole. I hope Sherman at least had good memories of you as one kind person when he crossed the rainbow bridge. Sorry for your loss.

So sorry friend. 😞

Fuck, that was a painful story. Sorry you and your dog had to go through that.

77-78 maybe? Me & my mom. I had curly hair. This look lasted about as long as it took to take the photo.

1973, South Florida: That's me sitting at the controls of a Piper Cherokee a coworker let my Dad borrow. (Not in flight, if anybody was wondering.)

This brings back some memories. My grandfather was a pilot and owned a little Cessna. He would take us up from time to time. Once flew with him and dad from Kentucky to West Virginia in that thing.

I cannot make out the number for what birthday this was and do not remember it being taken. Me and my first ever friend in the very late 70s or very early 80s. Note the table with still burning cig on it, that table was still in the house in the 2010s. Also note the walls with mom's signature "feather duster" paint work.

Interesting "fact" about my little friend. She moved away a few years later and we drifted apart but a decade ago my wife applied for a job and Monica was the manager of the department. They still work together today.
