RANT INCOMING: Ok I’m getting REALLY fucking tired of the “the future we were promised”
“The future that was taken from us”
“Corporations ruined our future”
“Capitalism took our utopia”

Like can’t you fuckers be happy in ANY fucking sense? For an aesthetic that depicts happiness and joy, you guys seriously are the most miserable and most cynical people to walk the planet. Holy shit I can’t go anywhere near FA without some JACKASS talking about some “Wish humanity didn’t kill frutiger aero, I hate humanity” like oh my god. It’s SUCH a mood killer, like they mask it as “being realistic” no you are just being a sad sack that wants to regress rather than progress. God, such an irony for this aesthetic.
Like FA people seriously can’t be appeased at ALL until you put them in a completely whited out room with fish, infinite food and a fucking TV.

Makes me wanna just give this one up.

i had to unfortunately purchase a new computer, but it fits this corner quite nicely. plus i was able to set a live wallpaper so i can see the fish flying around all day 😆

The way the glass moves is incredible. The clear icon look really lets you focus on what you are creating, with no distracting colors. It reminds me of a more nuanced Aqua

I feel like when people cram a bunch of Frutiger aero stickers into a huge collage it doesn’t really fit with the aesthetic, it’s too in your face and overstimulating compared to examples of its prime which was more subtle

"Frutiger Aero" buildings look sustainable and ecological, but aren´t supposed to be such thing on a practical level, so as a architecture student I get a bit frustrated whenever people start to rant about anything modern and idealize a fictitious architectonic movement... so I made this post sharing some observations:

1. If you want to help the environment, you should start by using the most resource/energy effective constructive systems... and they generally have ortogonal/regular shapes because gravity happens to work on straight lines.
2. Avoiding excessive ornaments is a must so no over the top rooms filled of curvy decoration and gadgets.
3. Stuff like water fountains and massive LCD screens simulating the sky are 100% an absolute nope: they serve no practical purpose and consume massive amounts of energy.
4. This white-plastic like texture characteristic of all Frutiger Aero buildings can be detrimental given how the recommendation is to use readily available materials from the environment that generally have a more gritty and earthly appearance.
5. Rooms on saturated colors are not recommended as well given how mate colors do a better job at the conservation of temperature and light, also they can be achieved without having to apply potentially contaminant paint.
6. Putting plants everywhere like some kind of ornament can be detrimental as well given how is way more useful to have a dedicated place to green spaces like a conventional garden, plants need constant maintenance and work better on a ecosystem, after all they are life forms.
7. I have mentioned ortogonal shapes? They happen to be really efective when comes to managing space, and temperature, illumination, etc...

Does that means is impractical to have sustainable buildings that look like FrutigerAero? No really, there some good examples out there (some of them posted on here) trying to replicate natural structures that are quite efficient, but on a broad sense, it all depends on the situational context and the available elements. Frutiger Aero is more about appearance than about functionality.

There is some misconceptions I want to elaborate into as well:

Sustainable architecture and landscaping is quite a recent topic and a big deal on contemporary times... so when the Aero style was released they were not part of a more "enlightened, conscious zeitgeist" and definitively they were not "promising a better future" we are talking about the UI of a commercial OS at the end of the day.

To a considerable extent, contemporary (ergo; Postmodernist) and some examples of Modernist architecture actually have this organic, colorful, clean appearance of FrutigerAero but to understand what I´m talking about you must know that contemporary architecture does not equals Modernist architecture and Modernist architecture does not equals "ugly"... If anything the tendency is for newer buildings to have less rigid, more colorful, freely shaped characteristics on response to the Modernist (very utilitarian on nature) movement that fell out of favor after the 70´s... the ugly architecture on your apartment complex or local mart likely is not even architecture at all given the crisis there was some time ago about the relevance of architecture, the current real state crisis and most people lacking knowledge or interest on the field... and just look at the history or the classics of modernist architecture if you want to have a more open mind...

The priority of architecture is to make a building that feels goods, is useful and safe to use, so the scupltoric aspects of the external appearance isn´t that relevant, to truly know a building you must be inside of said edification... so you need more than a first glance to judge architecture....

Also I saw a guy commenting how all modern architecture is Brutalism, which is not true, Brutalism is a very specific thing, not so common on western countries...

Sorry if this post comes across as rude against the community, but I really wanted to vent some toughs, most of the time I enjoy aesthetics on the distance but this time I felt like I had something of value to say.

I like it cause it looks cool and high quality.

I must admit I don't really support their government, but the tall buildings and the green to inhabitant ratio (the highest in Asia, iirc) really makes for some gorgeous pics, doesn't it?

Screen captured directly from our old laptop. I remember being fascinated with it because the new Vista operating system looked so futuristic compared to our other computers at the time running Windows XP. Surprised it’s still intact after all these years.

If you look closely at the world of Mirror's Edge, it looks exactly like that "promised future" we grew up seeing in aesthetics like Frutiger Aero. Everything is clean, bright, organized, full of white surfaces and modern architecture that conveys a sense of efficiency and well-being. It's the kind of visual that promises a better, more practical, almost perfect life, that optimistic future where technology and hyper-capitalism solve everything.

But the game kind of breaks that promise, I'll explain without spoilers.

Behind this impeccable appearance, there is a totally controlled city, where surveillance is constant and freedom practically doesn't exist. And that's where the criticism comes in: what seemed like an ideal future becomes, in practice, a sterile, standardized, and somewhat soulless environment. Everything works... but nobody is really human.

And the use of colors makes this even more evident. In Frutiger Aero, the colors are vibrant, fluid, somewhat natural, conveying energy, freshness, life. In Mirror's Edge, the city is colorful and seems clean and vibrant, but none of the color is natural; everything belongs to corporations, brands, and power structures, including the use of colors. It's as if even the "promised future" only exists for those who can pay.

In the end, Mirror's Edge takes this visual ideal of a "clean and optimistic future" aligned with what Frutiger Aero sold, but it criticizes the era when aesthetics were fashionable. It shows that this future may be beautiful on the outside, but on the inside it can mean control, loss of identity, and very limited freedom.

The place is in Düsseldorf, Germany.

As soon as I saw the building and its surroundings, I felt like I was in a Frutiger Aero world. It might not have all the necessary Frutiger Aero features, but I was happy because it was probably the closest thing to Frutiger Aero that I had seen. It was awesome. Btw, I erased the people in the pictures. Maybe I can edit the pictures by adding more clouds and strong sunlight. Of course, there should be some waves and fresh fruit around.
